Windows Installer (Office2K) problems
We've had a copy of Office2K at the office for months now, and I've been trying to get it to install from our Samba server. The server is a RedHat linux box running Samba 2.0.5a-1. I've tried it via UNC and mapping a drive, and I've tried all of the case mangling things that I can. It works just fine from NT4 SP4 and SP5. Anybody else tried this, or made it work? If so, can I

problem with mount -t smbfs
This was working a couple of weeks ago, but it's broken now. When I issue a command like 'mount -t smbfs //server/share /mount/point' I get an error that says " mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //mrbig/grego$, or too many mounted file systems " However, when I issue the command 'smbmount //server/share /mount/point/ it works just fine.

Office2000/Win2000 access to samba share problem
Hello all - I've worked through several google (as well as a searchable samba mailing list) searches, but haven't found a direct answer to my problem. Some things seem similar, but not enough for me to quickly resolve my problem. Overview: Accessing any Office2000 file from a samba-directory results in explorer (and whatever Office program was active) to hang. This only seems to be a

Additional files needed for Office2000 on Ubuntu 10.04?
Hello--As a noob to both Linux (Ubuntu) and Wine, I'd like to request advice: After installing Ubuntu 10.04 fr/LiveCD, I installed Wine 1.1.42, included w/10.04. Wine now appears on the Ubuntu Applications menu, so it appears I'm ready to start. I need to use Office 2000, for which I have an original CD w/Product key. I read the Wine FAQ section 3, Installing Applications, but have a

Installation of IE6 and Office2000 with wine 0.9.12
Hi, I used some time ago the winetools package to configure wine older than 0.9.10 with IE6 and Office 2000. Updates of wine up to 0.9.10 where also succesful, so that I was able to continue the usage of MS Office2000. But since the Desktop changes in wine 0.9.11, 0.9.12 the old installation does no more work. ## My experiements to install IE6 and Office 2000 without winetools are not yet

Using Office2000 with Samba (latest version)
I need your help. I've searched the Internet and did a lot of experimenting but I cannot get Office 2000 to work with Linux 7.3 and the latest-version of Samba. I had no problem with Office97 and other applications. I used the setup /a on a win2000 client to decompress the files so I could run setup and install the applications on the Samba share. The files will install onto the Samba

What can make G.729a codec hostid change?
After upgrading my small test system from Debian Etch->Lenny via a complete reinstall, I find my g729 hostid has changed. Same machine, same CPU, same NIC! It doesn't seem reasonable that I have to burn my one "no-hassle" re-registration for a simple OS upgrade. The README only says that hostid is based on MAC addresses of all NICs, but that doesn't seem to be true. Does

Office2000
Hi all, I've a problem by installing M$ Office2000 on the lates version (20030709) of Wine. When I run setup.exe all seem to work until the installation scroll bar opens. At this time the process hangs and the installation does not proceed. This happens both without windows installed than with a native Win2000 installation. I've a Mandrake 9.1. Any ideas? Any suggestions of how to

Office2K & file overwriting problems
Using Office2K (Word & Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian Linux, kernel 2.4.21. 1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem. 2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File->New). 3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the error: "Cannot save the file. 'H:\test\Book1.xls' is not a valid file name." 4. Unable to browse workgroup, shares otherwise accessible
Hi, After upgrading from Mandrake Linux 9.2 to Mandrake Linux 10 I can no longer browse my workgroup domain in "My Network Places" from my XP Pro clients. However, I can still access the shares on my Samba server without problem using either "Add Network Place" or by entering the path directly in Explorer. Another symptom is found in my Samba log where a lot of the

Win2000 Compatibility
I am evaluating vmware 2.0.4 Build 1142 on FreeBSD 4.4-PRERELEASE. So far, it's working wonderfully well. However, I would like to see if wine has improved it's support of W2K. In the past, I had tried to use office2000 but was unsuccessful. I was told that I should have a win98 partitiion with office2000 installed on that in order to have wine run it effectively. This was three months

OpenSSH on RH SPARC
Anybody made OpenSSH work on a SPARC machine yet? I managed to get OpenSSL to compile correctly, via a patch to fix the location of perl (on RPM based systems, it will almost always be in /usr/bin/perl, not in /usr/local/bin/perl), and a small patch to the spec file to allow for SPARC builds. That RPM is built and installed without any errors that I can detect. OpenSSH is failing during a key

wineprefixcreate ?
wineprefixcreate does not create a working registry. The system had a working set of .wine .reg files however installs of office2k failed. I then saved .wine and rebuilt it with wineprefixcreate. After this the original applications did not work. Is wineprefixcreate supposed to succeed at this? Thanks - Dan

README.Win32-Viruses and MS Office Administrative Installation Points
The README.Win32-Viruses file distributed with Samba 2.2.2 gives procedures for trying to stop the Nimda virus on Samba shares. It contains mostly good info and it is a good idea to implement this extra level of protection but there is one thing to watch out for. The README says to veto the file "riched20.dll" (along with a few others). This is fine unless you are using your Samba box
