Veto files option not working
We're getting very close now to having our RH6.1 server as we want it. Just a few anoying things left to iron out so we can trial it properly prior to going live. One of them is the "veto files" option in smb.conf. We want to stop users on Win95 clients from seeing (or deleting) the dot-files in their home shares. I've tried the above option, I've tried "hide dot

2.2.4 and "veto files" -> cpu maxed out
linux 2.2.19/rh6x I use in a share veto files = /.*/ whenever you connect to it the client process hangs, the smbd starts consuming cpu time and cannot be killed but with "kill -9". Can't see all of the directories in a share with 2.2.7a-1 & RH8...but older version/kernel can
Hi all, Hoping someone might be able to steer me in the right direction and/or help me solve my problem. We have a number of Linux servers (RH6.2 -> RH8) which connect to the same share on a Win2000 Server. We've been working kinda hard to get everything upgraded to either RH7.3 or RH8.0 since we rarely get the opportunity. 2 similar servers (one dev, one prod) access this same window

rh62 suid files
Hi, I believe having less root setuid binaries on system is The Way ... so: Why does RH6.2 ships with /sbin/dump & /sbin/restore root setuid? These are for sysadmins, not for regular users I hope. Is /sbin/unix_chkpwd really used and what is it used for? I haven't find anything about it in pam documentation. Is it really necessary to ship /usr/bin/gpasswd and /usr/bin/newgrp? Does

SAMBA and Subnet Browsing
Hi, I have 3 Samba servers run Samba 2.0.7 on RH6.2, with Kernel 2.2.16-3. Everything seems to be OK, except that my Win9x clients cannot see other Win9x clients across the subnets. Each server has 2 n/w cards installed, with IP Forwading enabled etc. If the user knows the machine name, he can get access to the shared resources across all 3 subnets, but using the n/w neighbourhood browser, shows

Administering SWAT using userid's other than root...
Hi all... Has anyone got SWAT administration working from other userid's other than root? I've got a rh6.2 box running Samba 2.0.7. I have myself (wkim) in the "domain admin users" and the "admin users". Both the smb.conf file and the swat binarary are owned by root:swat. I'm a part of group "swat". (I'm also a part of group "root" just to

Time out From Win98 to Samba 2.0.7 Share
I have a user (Win98 SE) that will open a file (take for example, a Quickbooks file) on a Samba share (RH6.2/Samba 2.0.7) and enter stuff into it. After a while, it says the connection was lost to the server, and when they try to open the file again, it says it's locked by the same user. I checked the log files on the server, and I get connection reset by peer errors in the workstation's

Windows XP Machines (well mostly the XP ones) hanging
Hello Folks, I will personally send $50(AU) of Pizza to anyone that solves this one :) We have a network comprising approx 30 Windows workstations all logging in to a samba machine running as a PDC. The main exported file system is an NFS mounted file system, but this was happening back when this was an xfs file system as well. ACL's are enabled. We are running Samba Version 2.2.8a. The

Reverse Veto Files - let's try again!
Since the list responsiveness seems to be at a high, le me take the opportunity to repost a message that got no answers in March: I've searched the list, and I can't find reference to this being implemented: reverse veto files - a list of files *allowed* rather than the current list of files *denied*. Possibly implemented by just allowing a ! in the veto files directive. eg: veto

reverse veto files?
Im currently having a very long list of veto files, just to be sure that the people ONLY can write documents and styleshets. Is there any plan to have a "reverse veto files" to ONLY allow this type of file? Because when I have a lot of veto files the samba gets too slow, even if it dosen't use regex, with regex i would be able to do the reverse veto. But without regex and without

Veto files with question mark
Hi ! I would like to remove from listing the "Icon?" files created by mac user when they customize their folder icon. So I did in my smb.conf : veto files = /Icon?/ ok it's working, but "Icone" "Iconx" "Icons" will be removed too. I tried veto files = /Icon\?/ but it's not working, Is there a way to use question mark (?) but not as a wild-card ?

smb.conf veto files entry question
While working on my existing member file server smb.conf config file I found an entry for "veto files" like the following: veto files = /.bash_logout/.bash_profile/.bash_history/.bashrc/ The "man smb.conf" entry says: veto files (S) This is a list of files and directories that are neither visible nor accessible. Each entry in the list must be

Veto files used to allow only one extension to be written to the share
Good night. I am behind a way so that in my backup share it is possible to only write files in the format of the application that I use to execute the backup routines, for this I searched the internet for a solution that works like Allow Files, however it is Complicated to find. Talking on forums a user informed me that he could use the parameter to follow in smb.conf, however in my tests it did

Veto files applied per group
Hi guys, I use "veto files = /.mp3/.mpg/" etc. on the [homes] share to prevent users from storing media files on a Samba server in the home directories. My client now wishes to make this restriction apply to users who are members of only certain groups. E.g. This restriction must apply to users who are members of the "Students" group and not apply to users in the

Rshaper Weirdness
Hello, guys, I am trying to get rshaper 2.01 to work on our Redhat 6.2 servers, but it does not seem to be able to control the bandwidth usage, here are the details, 1. Our production servers are all Redhat 6.2 with Kernel 2.2.19-6.2.12, the software we use are customized specifically for RH6.2, so I can''t upgrade to 2.4 kernel. 2. On my test server with the same RH6.2 and kernel (it has
