passwd-file contents are not being used
I am setting up my dovecot installation and I am not getting results that I expected for the authentication phase. I expected: * PAM authentication would not be attempted * passwd-file would provide gid, uid, home, mail I notice that even thought it appears that this information is returned from auth(default) in the IMAP(randykahle) phase, it is not using that information - it

Changing Root E-Mail address
Hi All, I installed a new CentOS 5.5 box and I am getting a daily e-mail (I am not sure how this was triggered) with XNTPD logs, HTTP Error and Disk Space). It is being sent to root at www.6colors.co which bounces, but I have a catch all so it does get to me. How do I change where this e-mail is sent? I have tried in /etc/postfix/main.cd, master.cf, bounce.cf.default, etc and I don't see

trouble with custom type on 0.24.8
I''m having trouble getting a simple custom type to work. Clients are giving me the following error: "Could not retrieve catalog: Could not find resource type zypper_repo at /etc/puppet/manifests/nodes/mgt.pp:33 on node <host.fqdn>" The custom type is present in the /var/lib/puppet/lib/puppet/type directory on both clients and server (via pluginsync), but it''s

defaultto in hash property not obeyed
Hi. I seem to have the following problem. This is a code from my custom type: newproperty(:kernel_options) do desc "Kernel options for installation boot." defaultto {} def insync?(is) # @should is an Array. see lib/puppet/type.rb insync? should = @should.first # if members of hashes are not the same, something # was added or removed from

Accepting Time Server
If samba and xntpd are running, you're done! Samba is a time server. Setting the smb.conf parameter "time server = yes" will cause Samba to advertise itself as a time server in the browse list through nmbd. Regardless of this setting, clients can still set their time with the "net time" command. -Mike MacIsaac, IBM mikemac at us.ibm.com (845) 433-7061

file resource, multiple owner values
With Puppet 2.7.20, it seems that when I write file { ''/tmp/bla'': owner => [''root'', ''jared''] } then if the owner of /tmp/bla is either root or jared, nothing happens, and if not, the owner is changed to root. More generically speaking, my reading of the code suggests that if the owner of the file is in the given list (the

Slow Copy WinXX - Linux/Samba :-(
I never thought it would happen to me, but it did... I have read threads about slow copies from WinXX to Linux/Samba on the list in the past, but I don't recall a concise answer regarding what the cause was. THE PROBLEM: Trying to copy an 8 meg file from Win95 to my Linux/Samba box (named "Nemesis" - for good reason), the transfer speed slows to a crawl. The Win95 copy dialog box

FW: Logwatch for XXXXXXX.kd4efm.org (Linux)
Found an error or two from my logwatch report from yesterday, thought I would share this in hopes this is just first time run of the problem I noticed in the Kernel report section... Also not sure why there's an issue with automount either.... but I guess I could ask on that issue as well. I am not worried about the NAMED error, this is something that happens due to one of the services that

Raw EXT3 block format
Hello Guys, I am looking to extend/create a file system that span networks/device of any kind, shape and manner :) Check out http://www.insync.za.net/openufs/ (also on http://openufs.sourceforge.net - but Iam not here to adv. the site !) I would like to know, where can I find what EXT3 will write to the disk, how it works etc. Surely EXT3 will write something like this : Block 0 - (1024 bytes)

frustrations with shares
I dont know much about Solaris, but i found this. There are problems with ACL's across platforms: the uid has to match numerically the gid has to match numerically the NSF mount has to support the ACL operations, e.g., if the ACL grants write, but the remote file system is read-only then the ACL can not be honored. Apparent SNMP remote-root vulnerability.
I just had a remote root break-in on my machine (x86 running Red Hat Linux 5.0 with all the updates except for kernel-2.0.32-3) this morning at 06:03:28 EDT. From what I''ve been able to gather, it appears to have been through snmpd, which I missed when I was weeding out unused daemons. Sorry for the feeble message, but all I know (or at least strongly suspect) is that there''s a
