Strange problem with Winamp 2.77 & Win2k
Hi all,
here I have Windows 2000( Brazilian edition ) with SP2 installed and Winamp
2.77, with Nullsoft Vorbis Decoder 1.15b.
Playing works perfect, with very low CPU usage. But if I pause or stop
playing, CPU utilization goes to 100% and never gets out from there, only
if I close Winamp or start playing again.
I've seen this through Task Manager but looks like it's not his fault,

Strange problem with reading a pipe delimited file
I am trying to read in a pipe delimited file that has rows with varying number of columns, here is my sample data:
A|B|C|D
A|B|C|D|E|F
A|B|C|D|E
A|B|C|D|E|F|G|H|I
A|B|C|D
A|B|C|D|E|F|G|H|I|J
You can see line 6 has 10 columns. Yet, I can't explain why R does like so:
> test <- read.delim("mypaths4.txt", sep="|", quote=NULL, header=F,

Constructing a transition matrix
Hi,
I would like to construct a transition matrix from a data frame with
annual transitions of marked plants.
plant<-c(1:6)
class<-c("seed","seed", "seed", "veg", "rep", "rep")
fate<-c("dead", "veg","veg","rep", "rep", "veg")
trans<-data.frame(plant, class, fate)

Win NT Authorization problems...
After a nights rest (and a successful solution to my NT
authorization problems) and short apology is in order to the list.
My attitude in the last message was less than helpful and I apologize.
On a helpful note here is what I learned:
Regardless of the interpretation of any of the samba documentation
Samba-1.9.18 and later versions fully support DES encryption for
WindowsNT without *ANY*

no go, same ices/icecast errors
Hi Brendan and all: Well the upgrade libshout didn't fix the
problem. Here are more logs from ices and icecast. They certainly
don't tell me much.

Strange file Behavior
Samba Masters:
I recently upgraded all of our Samba servers to 2.0.6. Previously, we had
several versions running all the way from 1.9.15p8 up to the current
release. Since the upgrade, there has been a strange problem reading text
files on one of the shares.
Here's the situation. The server is a Sun box with Solaris 2.5.1. A
program that runs on this machine writes a text file into a

deeply if my questions are extremmely na??ve.I have checked several
available books and URL's, without finding any answer.
I'm trying to fit Generalized Linear Mixed Models via PQL. Below I provide

indexing source code
Hi again,
I''m using ferret to index source code - DamageControl will allow users
to search for text in source code.
Currently I''m using the default index with no custom analyzer (I''m
using the StandardAnalyzer). Do you have any recommendations about how
to write an analyzer that will index source code in a more ''optimal''
way? I.e. disregard common

JRG Console Output
All,
I had a question about the JGR console and whether or not I can
manipulate the location where line wrapping occurs. I have searched
'JGR' in the R listserve archives and attempted to find console
manipulation on the JGR website to no avail and could use some
direction.
TIA, Bret
As an example, the below output wraps every 4th value, leaving about
2/3 of the console empty.

repeated measures ANOVA - among group differences
I have data on the proportion of clutches experiencing different fates
(e.g., 4 different sources of mortality) for 5 months . I need to test 1)
if the overall proportion of these different fates is different over the
entire study and 2) to see if there are monthly differences within (and
among) fate types. Thus, I am pretty sure this is an RM analysis -( I
measure the same quadrats each month).

vorbiscomment inconsistency
I think that vorbiscomment should really use -c "this=that" to specify
tags on the commandline, consistent with oggenc. That displaces the
tag source file, so I'd suggest -f, consistent with at least some other
programs (although I can only think of tar, right now). I'd also
suggest that it use -o for an output filename rather than splattering
the second file on the

Wine 64Bits vs Wine 32Bits
Hi,
Actually, i install my games into two differents prefix, once in the 32bits prefix and the 64bits prefix.
For my test, i tried to install 3 games :
- F.E.A.R
- Mass Effect 1
- Runaway : A Twist Of Fate
F.E.A.R :
No problem with the 32bits wineprefix but impossible to install in the 64Bits Wineprefix... It's a joke because in the CD, it's write that the game works on XP 64Bits. I

Estimating Daily Survival
R Users,
I was wondering if someone might point me in the right direction. I am using a Cox model (survival package) to evaluate survival of pen-reared birds (time to event data collected daily) and I have been trying to determine how I can estimate a 'daily' survival rate and std error from the results of a Cox model?
Using survfit (see input data below) I computed the predicted

Hollo I'm new, My name is Ariel Arelovich

Survival Plots by Strata
All,
I am struggling to create a survival plot using LTRC data for each year
of a 10 year period.
I have a set of individuals (birds) where 'entry' is the day of the
year (1-365) they are released (let out of pens) into the wild (2 year
data snip below). 'Entry' (e.g., day of year the first bird is
released for each year) is highly variable, ranging from 48 to >250.

Data Mining in Europe, please advise
Our CEO, Dr. Dan Steinberg, is planning to visit Europe in May. He
would like the opportunity to introduce statisticians (and statistically
minded people) to data mining, data mining applications and to forefront
data mining tools. Our algorithms are probably familiar to many
statisticians (CART, MARS, MART, TreeNet and RandomForests), although it
isn't necessary to be a statistician to
