Usign hosts allow in the smb.conf file
Hi,
I have a setup of Windows NT machines and SUN Solaris (UNIX) machines.

Samba record locking & PC db's
Fellow Samba-meisters,
I'm wondering if anyone can share real-world experience running PC
database apps (like M$ Access) with database files shared from a samba
server. How well has the record locking proven to work? I will be
setting up a small office network for a client w/ a Linux server running
samba as a file/print server and 4 or 5 Win95 clients running Office97
apps.

Samba 2.0 and MS Access DB
I installed samba on an Intel based Server running Red Hat 5.2. I can
access files on the shares I created but I run into a problem accessing
a database program written in MS Access. It seems that only one person
at a time can open the database. I get an error of "File is already in
use" .
What are the optimal settings for accessing MS Access in a multi-user
application?
Thanks for

File Locking and MS Access
How do I allow two or more users access to the same File at the same time.
I've been using a Windows 98 server with a Microsoft Access 97
database. Every user on the network can access the database at the same
time and read & write to it as long as they aren't using the same
record. Linux and Samba won't let me do this.
I'm using Linux 7.3 and Samba 2.2.7a

MySQL GUI for OS X
G''day everyone,
I''ve got Rails up and running, but am having trouble finding a stable
MySQL client for OSX.
I was looking at the ''Creating a weblog in 15 minutes'' screencast from
rubyonrails.org - what MySQL client is David using?
I''ve found the MySQL clients (Administrator / Query Browser) to be
highly unstable and rather pathetic under OSX.

Using an MS Access database from CentOS release 5.7 (Final)
@Work requires me to manipulate the MS Access database (mdb) file
located on an XP box that is an integral part of a third party
application that is central to the business.
Does anyone have experience doing so?
I have used odbtp in the recent past but it is extremely difficult to
set up on the linux box as I learned when I recently upgraded from
CentOS 4.x to 5.x.
Is there another way to get

Active Record and Postgres table inheritance?
Active Record doesn''t appear to have support for table inheritance implemented
in PostgreSQL as described in
http://www.postgresql.org/docs/8.0/interactive/ddl-inherit.html.
Is anyone working on such a thing or is their some compelling reason to avoid
this feature?
I am new to Ruby and Rails, but it doesn''t seem like it would be to difficult
to adapt the current Active

ms access --> mysql --> R in Linux
I am trying to use some ms access databases in R (version
1.9.1 or 2.0 on a Debian system). In searching the net for
promising software to do this, I found mdbtools. Mdbtools
claims the ability to convert schemas and tables in MS
Access to MySQL and other databases.

I'm wondering if anyone in the R community has tried using
this software to use

OT: Suggestions for database for physicians patient records?
This is very OT. If list readers can point me in the right direction, to
other mailing lists, or web sites for recommended databases, that will
be much appreciated!
My wife's doctor wants to move records, for approximately 6000 patients
(over a 12 year period), from paper (18th century) to a database (20th
century). The data entry will be a PITA, for his secretaries, regardless

ruby on rails and Micro$oft environment support - IIS & ms sql
Hi everybody
At work we''ve finally convinced the chief to develop some small project
using open source technology.
Unfortunately we are deeply involved with Micro$oft technology.
That means, windows 2003 server, IIS, MS SQL 2005 and asp.
I was thinking about recommending ruby on rails instead of asp, but I''d like
to know how well it goes with IIS and MS SQL, because for the

Access postgresql directly from dialplan?
I would like to access a Postgresql database directly from my dialplan
(to lookup names based on callerid numbers for incoming calls). Based on
everywhere I looked - it seems the only way to do this is with
func_odbc. Considering that Asterisk seems to be able to access
Postgresql databases directly using res_pgsql for the purposes of
realtime functionality (without using odbc - if I

Problem with locking files in MS Mail Server
Hello Everybody.
I have problem with samba (debian potato 2.2.17 with samba 2.2.2), when
I'am using samba to share "normal" files - everything was ok. But I must
still use Microsoft Mail (messaging system) to deliver local messages in
my network. Last time, I move this server to samba (before was on NT

File / Record Locking In Samba
I would like to use Linux as a file and print server for a number of
Windows workstations.
One use of this is server will be to provide a central repository for an
accounting package.
I have spoken to the software supplier for the accounting software and
whilst they do not know of any issues with this configuration, they have
advised they are unsure how Samba manages file/record

samba 2.2.8a + Locking + Record not available
Hello everybody
Since 1 week i saw at the client side displaying
"Record not available" when our client try to access
the FoxPro database found on the file server. It
happens every day in the morning before the users
start working. I need to restart the server and it
becomes normal.
Could someone please tell how could i resolve it? Can
