Big send/receive hangs on 2009.06
So, I was running my full backup last night, backing up my main data pool zp1, and it seems to have hung. Any suggestions for additional data gathering? -bash-3.2$ zpool status zp1 pool: zp1 state: ONLINE status: The pool is formatted using an older on-disk format. The pool can still be used, but some features are unavailable. action: Upgrade the pool using ''zpool

Is it possible to make rsync VMware split .vmdk's aware?
Hi, I am using rsync for my customers to have disaster recovery off-site with files from a VMware Server (under Linux). All works very well, but when I defragment the VM's (once a week) or Exchange defragments it's datastore the disk layout changes offcourse and sometimes a lot. What do I do: - I am making a local copy with vmware-vdiskmanager to an USB disk in the split

rsync, --sparse and VM disk images
Hi Bas, I'm not sure if this is of interest, but I also had issues with VM disk-image sparse-files (in my case KVM, rather than VMWare), which I've now resolved. http://www.finalcog.com/rsync-vm-sparse-inplace-kvm-vmware All the best, Chris Dew. P.S. Apologies for any breach of etiquette - I could not see Bas' email address on

Hi. Applied it to 3.0.8, which still has the issue... Worked like a charm... Thanks a lot. Will it be merged with future samba releases? Best regards. Strange Panic During Reboot
I'm getting the following panic during shutdown of a 6.1-PRERELEASE system cvsupped yesterday. Strangely enabling DDB in the kernel "fixes" the problem. The computer is an old P120 (which I should probably replace). It occurs every time when DDB is disabled but when DDB is enabled, it does not panic. All buffers synced. Uptime: 19m16s (da0:ahc0:0:0:0): SYNCHRONIZE CACHE. CDB: 35

NFS V4?
Looks like just starting the nfs service turns on V2, 3, and 4 (based on reading the script, reading the man pages, and looking at the ports using netstat -l). However, I can connect using -t nfs in the mount, and -t nfs4 fails. I don't believe this is a firewall issue, internal IPs are fully open to each other according to an early rule in iptables. $ sudo mount host03:/home/ddb /mnt/ddb

Samba users spreading spam (or automated replies)
Hi Some of the samba users are spreading spam or automated replies. Is there any possible way to stop them? I've got the following two messages after my first post which are either spam or automated nonsense replies: Message 1: From: Jim Crippen <jcrippen@eliteint.com> To: Behrang Saeedzadeh <behrangsa@gmail.com> Date: Fri, 25 Feb 2005 06:21:37 -0600 Subject: Out of Office

KDB+DDB make interrupt storm on MSI motherboards go away it seems
I admit I was scepticle of this suggestion - but it actually seems to have worked. COmpiling a straight GENERIC kernel with KDB and DDB included do seem to have made my irq22 interrupt storms go away. Certainly I have spent some time trying to provoke the problem and not managed to make it read it's ugly head again. The thing is though, this doen't make me particularly happy - as I am

panic possibly related to soft updates? (4.8-STABLE, Jun 12 2003)
Hello list, I have been fighting this problem for a few days now. I have changed memory and opened the case and monitored for heat. I have been getting the same panic about every 12 to 24 hours. I can let the system sit idle, or run it under a heavy load (cpu and disk), but the panics dont seem to be related to system load. It looks to me like a dangling pointer in softdep_update_inodeblock,

USB detach/attach hangs with 7.0-RELEASE and 7.1-PRERELEASE
Hi, I've noticed some general instability with plugging in or removing USB devices with FreeBSD 7.x, even when the devices are not actively in use. I had this happen with umass and ucom devices 3 times today. The machine hangs solid, there are no obvious signs of a panic or trap to DDB. I can't provide backtraces unfortunately -- these hangs happen on both my laptop and desktop, and

Problems with crashing IBM X3630 M3/ZFS
Hello. I've got a quartet of IBM x3630 M3 with one that is frequently hard locking under heavy NFS load. I am running 9.0-RELEASE with all the patches from freebsd-update. My problem machine has 8 16 core clients, each doing IO intensive tasks connected to it via a Procurve and the onboard igb0 interface. Mostly network reads, typically 10MB read per MB written. When the machine locks
