Browsing Problems
Hello.
I've got a Samba server and I'd like it to be master browser and
everything else except domain controller (the customers wants a
workgroup, not a domain).
Lately a Windows 2003 server was added to the net and then I guess it
was removed.
I keep getting messages like the following in the logs:

Debian sarge release and dovecot
In what must surely be the first sign of the apocalypse, Debian is
actually freezing in preperation for a new release. Probably the last day
for uploads will be August 17. Is there likely to be another dovecot
release by then? In the event of 0.99.10.9 being the released version,
are there any other patches Debian users would like me to include?

dovecot and AFS
Scrolling thru the archives gives me a hint that there might be troubles
with AFS together with dovecot and maildir especially the LDA
Is this still an issue or should I prepare for spending time to solve it?
If someone successfully got it to work in a small or large scale
environment I would be happy to know about it.

X100P odd state behavior on shared/split line.
Hello all,
There's been a consistent problem with Asterisk and a telephone line
which has been answered by someone or someone that has placed an out
going call.
My configuration is a X100P that is plugged in with a telephone line
that is split between it and a small Panasonic PBX. Asterisk is
used strictly for voicemail.
While the phone is off-hook, it will repeatedly go through this loop:

You've got it wrong, those are not servers, those are newsgroups. You need to
go to Google (for example) and search for something like "free news server".

confidence intervals for linear combinations when using lme
Hi
I really hope someone can help me.
I have just started to work with S-plus, and have not yet understood how it
really works. I am now trying to fit a mixed effects model with lme. My goal
is to compare four different groups, at several different time points, and I
therefore would like to create confidence intervals for linear combinations
of my estimated parameters (as I usually do with

Can not install Excel97/Word97
Hello!
I am new to this list (although I have done a fair amount of research in the archives) and I need to ask what is probably one of the most frequently asked questions on a list like this:
How do I install Word97 and Excel97?
(Codeweavers CrossoverOffice can do this, and they ASSURE us that they roll everything they do back to the main wine CVS and hence, this SHOULD work!)
So far; this is

Unable to transfer ForestDns/DomainDNS
I'm working my way off of our Windows 2003 R2 Domain Server. That machine
is called PDC, sorry really bad planning so many years ago! So my end goal
is to have two samba4 domain controllers. They are setup and joined as
DC's, dc01 and dc02. I have most of my files off of PDC but would like to
keep it up for a little longer to make sure I have everything off of there.
So I tried

Problems adding Win clients to domain
I'm not able to add Win clients to my domain anymore. I receive an
error on the PC (2000 or XP):
"The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "[DOMAIN]":
Logon failure: unknown user name or password."
But I am able to log on to the server when accessing shares and
printers. This error message only appears when joining the domain.
And on the Mac OS X

Finishing up the contributors list as well
Guys,
OK, now that we have the new core contributors squared away, we
can go back to finishing the contributors list.
There were some people who got added and then there is existing
contributors list. I think Darren''s suggestion to wait to add new
core contributors is fine (let the new constitution settle down
and we can in the meanwhile have a more inclusive look at both

Installing Excel 97, SUCCESS!!
Hi again!
Yesterday I wrote to this list complaining that I could not install Excel 97. I have now succeeded. The trick was NOT to run "install.exe", but to unpack xl97_1.cab and run the acmsetup.exe in there, like so:
"wine -- acmsetup.exe /T excel97.stf"
(I think that excel97.stf existed in the first cab-file as well.)
The installer will ask for a few files that all can

Is wine *always* mapping threads onto processes? (Was: Re: multiple inst
Yup. You're right.
1. Those are not processes since Linux 'ps' and 'top' reports threads just
as it reports processes.
2. Threads reports the total amount of RAM allocated to the process it belongs
to. (Excercise: what else could it report??)

Dovecot and "deliver" disagree on character encodings
Hi, I have a problem where Dovecot and its LDA seem to disagree on what
character encoding should be used in Maildir names.
I use Dovecot and Postfix on a Debian server. Mail is delivered by Dovecot LDA
(called from .forward) and sorted according to a Sieve script into a number
of Maildir folders in my home directory. Dovecot serves the mail over IMAP
and I read it in Kmail.

installation problems
Hi,
there seems to be alot of people having
problem installing openSSH (and so do I)!
Search on the Internet for this
"Could not find working OpenSSL library"
and you will see that people have problems
with many different versions and there's also
a lot of suggestions how to fix that wont work.
I suggest that you put an explanation and
the solution on your FAQ!
Thanks!
