Samba scaling
Andrew, Did anyone reply to you on this? By the sounds of things you are running a pair of E450's? We currently use Samba on about 6 or 7 Sun E450's and E250's, it scales very well. I have managed to have about 700-800 current clients connected from Windows 95 and 98, we also have the about 30-40 NT clients that connect regularly. I have found that Samba has scaled uniformly in

I would like to deploy on our network a centrally administered antivirus program. We're running Win98

Translation of R code required
Dear All I am a complete novice when it comes to R. I have been sent some code which I need to run on a dataset. I have downloaded and installed R but I dont seem to be able to get the code to run. I was hoping someone on the list would be able to give me a 'translation' of what the code is trying to do and if there appears to be any errors in it. The code is; mental <-

Files Updates
Hi, I have an Informix program that unload data to a file in a samba directory. Problem is although the file has changed, I still see the old data from my Windows 98 SE PC. I only see the updated data after refreshing the snmba directory numerous times. Sometimes I have to wait for more that 10 minutes !! Funny thing is this problem does not apply to my friend's PC. Why is this so and

network extremely slow
samba2.07,nt4sp6a I run a samba-server with 15nt-clients on a 100MBit-Switch. Now I faced extremely poor performance and really have no idea why. I even dont know if it can be a samba-problem. When copying myriads of small file from a client to the server or vice versa I get bad performance: 1000 files a 16kb: ~80seconds = 200kb/second But this is highspeed compared to copying from nt to nt:

C Compiler for samba1.9.18p1
Where can I get a freeware C compiler for Solaris 2.4 for x86? And how can I perform a very simple test that the compiler works on my machine, before trying it on the samba Makefile? The date and version number - maybe "cc /help"? - would be a start. Jan j.poloniecki@sghms.ac.uk tel: +44 (0)181 725 2795 a.m. (0)181 672 4122 p.m.

Hi, I'm having a problem with one of the servers, an Sun E450 Solaris 2.6 box, that after some time it will no longer be able to send out LDAP requests to the LDAP server. The response to every ldap query is: ldap_bind: Can't contact LDAP server Checking the netstat output I see a lot (over 300) of TIME_WAIT state request to the ldap server: r0104su03.34321 mailhost.389

File lock
I am failing to lock a database file on a unix server (Solaris486) when the file lock request is sent from Visual Foxpro on Windows 95. Any suggestions on testing procedures, or even a solution?? Please feel free to assume that I don't know anything about file locks! I don't even know how Visual Foxpro attempts to lock a file. Would the Foxpro lock be recognised by any application?

help with rebuilding md0 (Raid5)
Sorry, this is going to be a rather long post...Here's the situation; I have 4 IDE disks from an old snap server which fails to mount the raid array. Constructing titles from list of expressions
Hello! I have the following problem: I have a function to construct three surfaceplots with a marker for an optimum, each of the plots has as title paste("Estimated ",pred.var.lab," for ",var.lab[1]," vs. ",var.lab[2],sep="") with different var.lab[1,2] each time. My problem is now that I need to allow for plotmath expressions in the variables pred.var.lab

Offhook tone in channel OSS/dsp
Hi, I have to develop a phone application using asterisk's chan_oss. When the phone is idle, i.e. the last command was a hangup, one hears a "toot, toot, toot, ..." But unforuntaly its use is in Germany, where one expects a continous "toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ..." before dialing. Is there anything to define the tone indicating "ready to dial"?

Intermittent user authentication problem
We're experiencing a problem where one of our users is unable to authenticate to Samba some times (1 - 2 times/week out of 5). Typically when it happens, it's when she first attempts to access it in the morning. Regardless of how many times she tries again, she is unable to authenticate. However, if she tries later in the day, it works fine. She is the only user this has happened to.

Fwd: Re: Wavelet reconstruction
I realized that I may not have answered the question you were asking and that no one else has responded. I can across a similar problem and may have an answer to your question now. If you have both the wavelet coefficients and the scaling coefficients then create a fake sequence of the same length as the original and decompose that sequence using wd form wavethersh with the same wavelet family
