valid users = too long?
We are controlling access to a share based on userid under the guidelines of HIPPA. So only our health care professionals in the dental hygeine labs can gain access to patient records. The problem is I've vonverted the long line to \CR entended lines and now I get : ERROR: string overflow by 358 in safe_strcpy [hammgab test2 billtest lb310453 lb293100 ab298138 ] ERROR: string overflow by 358

Win2k & 2.0.7
When I try to join the Win2k machine to a domain, I get the following message: The following error occurred attempting to join the domain "WIN2K": The procedure number is out of range. This is a Win2k PC attempting to join to AIX 4.3.2 running samba 2.0.7. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bill -- /------------------------------------------------------\

ole locking compatibility
Would there be any conditions under which this setting (default to yes) could cause an AIX 4.3.2 machine (samba 2.0.6) to suddenly have all processes (smbd or otherwise) become blocked? I've sent 5 dumps to IBM and they're stumped and this is the only thing I can possibly find from the samba stuff that could possibly cause it. Here is the exerpt from smb.conf: ole locking

strange trusts in 3.0.21?
We have a three-way Samba trust in our development environment. All three are using OpenLDAP and Samba 3.0.21. The LDAP database is shared for access to Posix/Samba user info. SID's are appropriately assigned to the users and machines with algorithmic RID's and the IDMAP table is preloaded with the SID-RID to UID mappings. This all works and was tested with assigning windows ACLs to shares

reduce_name and ACL's
AIX 5.2, Samba 3.0.11, OpenLDAP 2.2.23. Can someone explain what reduce name is supposed to be checking? The final debug uses "p" as the "reduced" name, but p is NULL to start and only has a value during the code path IF there was no entry found on the first call to realpath at which point the last component is removed and we try again. Now since p points to the character

2.2.7a slowness on AIX 5.1-ML03
I have an open PMR with IBM regarding a slowness issue when more than 450 smbds are trying to login and download roaming profiles. The system is a 6H1 with 6 RS64-III 668MHz cpus and 6 GB memory w/Gb ethernet. We have over 10,000 student accounts with roaming profiles and 800 XP-SP1 workstations for them to choose from. I've compiled 2.2.7a in 64 bit and 32 bit modes. Run it on both the 32

Odd preexec/root preexec behavior
Running Samba 2.2.2, having troubles with preexec when it involves the path parameter: Log on to the samba server as kris, user "users". %U expands to kris, %G expands to users. [profile] path = /data/profile/%U preexec = /bin/mkdir -m 700 /data/profile/%U writable = yes create mode = 0600 directory mode = 0700 This fails to work, Samba reports that it could not

Problems With DAHDI on Ubuntu
I have 2 separate Asterisk servers that are both exibiting this problem. 1 has a 4 port FXO digium card, the other an 8 port. For some reason when the machine reboots, the dahdi drivers are not properly loaded. Then asterisk ends up starting without dahdi support. I've tried everything that I can think of, even to the point of running dahdi_cfg in the asterisk startup script before

Implementing preexec
Hello, I'm attempting to use preexec. It appears to never be called. I have attempted the same command with postexec and found it works fine in all the conditions I have attempted with preexec. Specifically I am using the example: preexec = csh -s echo \"%u connected from %I\" >> /tmp/log I have placed this in the Global and the Homes section. The same command with

Problem using root preexec
I'm having trouble getting root preexec to work. The version of Samba I have is an older one (2.2.7) and I can't upgrade it since I don't want to go to the trouble of getting and compiling the source code for QNX. What I really want to do is have our Windows GUI machine be able to execute scripts on my QNX machine (checking filesystem integrity, untarring software bundles etc) as QNX

Executing arbitrary commands, preexec, etc
Hi there. First, I'm not subscribed to the list, so if anyone actually replies to this, please CC me. Thanks. I have a problem which I feel sure can be solved with cunning use of Samba, CVS, and the like. Basically, I need a shared document repository with some sort of version control or sign-off. It has to be accessible to both Windows and *NIX users. Currently we have a home-grown system.

root preexec
I am running LM 8.2 as a server serving 50+ Win 9x machines with samba 2.2.3. In my samba configuration I have a "root prexec" command which is executed when a new user logs in. It creates a sub folder in their home folder and changes the owenership of this folder to the user and their group. The following is the relative samba configuration:- [homes] comment = Home Directories path

Preexec on Profiles
I'm trying to get a preexec line to work on Profiles when a windows XP system logs in. The line and script are the same as we used to use on the "homes" share with WIndows 98 clients on samba 2. However I cannot seem to make the preexec line trigger either on login or by explicitly mounting the share. Here's the bit from my smb.conf [Profiles] path = /var/samba/profiles

preexec and client timeout when script long to execute
I wrote a script which downloads user profile from a remote server if the profile doesn't exist on a local server - and executes it via preexec in [profiles] share. It works fine, however, there is a major glitch with it. After 3 minutes or so, the client times out, and says that that the server-side profile cannot be found, contact your administrator etc. The script is still running and
