Re: 2.2.3a as a PDC for Win2k Pro and/or WinXP Pro
Hi Mathias,
I can't speak on Win2k Pro but have recently tested WinXP Pro. Now with
XP you will need to use the reg file included with the samba archive (in
a sub directory in the docs dir). Once that has been applied (presuming
all accounts have already been created on server) you can join the
domain and log in no problems.

Home shares staying (NT4)
I am having the same trouble with automatically mounted home shares with
samba 2.2.1a (PDC, domain logins, roaming profiles) and NT4WS sp6a. If
I login as one user, logout, then login as another, I can view the
previous users home share as well as my newly logged in users home share
(lather, rinse, repeat...). The NT box has a machine account, domain
logins work, profiles work, login scripts

Samba Passwords
I have a RH 6.0 server setup with accounts for about 1500 users
(school), I use encrypted passwords. I would like users to be able to
change their samba ('Windows networking') passwords and at the same
time change their unix passwords (used for E-mail). I have the
following in my smb.conf file as per the given example:
unix password sync = Yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u

some win machines see samba, some not.
Hello,
I have this big problem which bothers me for past week(s).
I have setup a simple samba network on win95 only net and
it worked fine.
This time I try to setup a samba on a network having win98
WinNT 4.0 sp4 and WinNT4.0 WS SP 5.
I believe all machines are on the same local net.
I have tried both samba 2.0.5a (RH6.1 default) as well as
samba 2.0.7.
I can use 'smbclient'

Authorize to samba, can't connect to NT. Help!!
Hi group,
I have a Linux server running 2.0.5a and setup as workgroup ADMIN. It's set
to do domain logins, local, preferred and domain master are on and security is
set to user level.
We have the local workgroup ADMIN here on x.x.3.x subnet and on x.x.4.x there
is an NT PDC that controls the MSHIP domain.
The local 98 users login to ADMIN and can browse the servers across the subnet

samba and case switching.
Hello,
I'm using samba 2.05a on my slackware linux box and have just noticed
something very weird. When I copy a file via network neighborhood in 98
to my home directory on the linux box the file is converted to all
uppercase. Under windows even though it isn't case sensitive the first
letter of each word is capitalized, but when I look at the files under
linux they're all in

Is this list still active?
I haven't seen traffic here in eons..
Could someone help me with SWAT? Based on the permissions given when
connecting to SWAT, and by the passwords screen, it *looks* like one can
give someone (other than root) access to modify samba shares through SWAT.
Does anyone know how to accomplish this? SWAT's documentation is very
poor....

SWAT and authentication
What's the deal with SWAT authentication? I have a Freebsd 4-Stable box
running SWAT from the Samba 2.0.7 port and I can log into SWAT as a
regular user (ie, not root but has a smbpasswd entry) and make any
changes I want to the smb.conf file -- which is 0644 root.wheel. I'm
presuming this is because my inetd.conf entry for SWAT has it running as
root as per the example.
Is this how

samba and net start
Hi,
I was wondering if samba provides a means to start a programme on an NT
server, specifically a service? This is equivalent to the 'net start'
command, but I wish to start a service from my Linux server.
Thanks

samba and unix password sync?
Hello,
I'm using redhat linux 6.2, and freebsd 4.0-release, both of which are
running samba 2.06. I'd like to sync up the nt and unix password files,
I've added
unix password sync = yes
but that has no effect.
Any ideas?
Dave.

deleted share still seen
Hi,
I'm using Samba 2.0.7 and I'm experimenting with shares at the moment.
I created a share on my SuSE 6.4 box and accessed it from a Win2000 machine. Than I deleted this share entirely, and expected that I wouldn't be able to see it anymore from the win2000 box (after refreshing the view in windows explorer) but the opposite happened.
What could be the explanation and the

Hiding samba server from browselist
Hello,
is there a way to keep my (fine running, yes!!) samba machines
out of our browse list? I know you people have been working hard
to get it going, but our policy is that NO machine should be seen
just by clicking into "Netzwerkumgebung" as German NT calls it...
NT has a registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\hidden=1 for this

SGID bit in Samba 2.0.7
Hello,
we use the SGID bit on Solaris for directories to force setting
the given group from the directories above (not the primary group).
If we create directories with Samba 2.0.7, the SGID bit will not set
on the new directory. With Samba 2.0.6 and below all worked fine.
Is there a work around or a bug fix available?
Thx
Sincerly yours

BUG or FEATURE ?
Hi
I'am standing hopeless in the desert.
I spent a long time to run the move of your windows nt shit to windows 2000.
On microsofts side all worked fine. Microsoft wrote that I can switch to
native mode when I upgraded all my NT DC's.
..... So I did ......
Now my samba client can't join the win2000 domain.
I get following message:

NT server manager support/Failed RPC calls
I am currently using samba 2.0.5a as a file server on Redhat 6.1 with a NT
controlled domain. I am trying to use the NT server manager to look at the
shared directories on the samba server and the RPC call is failing. I have
tried various smb.conf implementations with different security levels,
protocols and announce as, but it never succeeds. I have also tried the

using and testing %a
Greetings.
Is there a quick and easy way to find out what the %a substitution string
returns for a given computer? We were having some problems that I though
might be due to it, and I'd like to know how to find out if it is the
problem. I tried putting it in the server string, but looking at it in
network neighborhood always gives me "UNKNOWN". The computers I tried
