smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi, I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very clear about smbmnt though! I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300 to 400Kb each. I understand that Samba is capable of doing

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

[patch] smbmount fixes for samba-2.0.7, testers wanted!
Hello all This patch tries to remove a few bugs from smbmount. It would be nice to get some testing+feedback on this from others using smbmount and possibly get these things fixed for the next release of samba. It does the following: * Change lib/debug.c to allow changing your mind on being interactive. A second call to setup_logging should now replace the effects of a previous call. (hmm,

Here is all the data I have: smbmount \\\\JHAMMER6\\public /mnt/NetWork/JHAMMER6/public/ -o debug=6 mount.smbfs started (version 2.0.7) Initialising global parameters params.c:pm_process() -

Difficulties with samba and ADS
Hello. I thought I had this fixed 3 times now... but it keeps coming up. I have 2 smbservers that are part of an ADS domain (windows 2003 server). I have my samba servers set up, and it works great for a month or so, then it starts giving smbmount and smbclient a hard time. This is very bad news because I rely upon smbmount heavily. When I try to view the shares my main server, and use the

Hi all, I am trying to cross compile samba version 2.2.12 to an ARM platform (kernel 2.4.20) using arm-tools chain 3.4.2. I get the smbmount compiled, however, when I want to mount a directory that is located in a Windows XP PC, I get the following message: WARNING: The "strip dot"option is deprecated unrecognized character set handle_source_env: Failed to open file , Error was

2.0.5 smbmount chokes on chars needing shell-escape
Apologies if this has already been asked, but I couldn't find reference to it anywhere. Various windows versions allow characters in share names like " " and ")" (space, close paren) that need to be escaped when passed to the shell. However, it seems like the 2.0.5 smbmount calls smbmnt via the shell, and so if you try to do something like: smbmount

problems mounting smbfs
I've spent the last 2 days trying to get smbfs to mount via fstab. Using redhat 7.3 and the latest samba as of 7/17/02. I can mount from the command line using smbmount as follows: smbmount //localhost/wwwshare /smbwww -o username=smbuser, password=xxxxxxxx I can not mount from the command line using: mount -t smbfs -o username=smbuser, password=xxxxxxxx //localhost/wwwshare /smbwww The

smbclient works, smbmount does not
Hi there, after browsing the mailing list archives for several hour I still couldn't find an answer to my problem, although it for sure sounds as if many people posted the same problem. Yet, none of the threads dealing with problems like these matched my problem, so I have to start a new thread on my own. This is my system environment: Linux machine: - Mandrake Linux 8.1 - samba-2.2.1a

file permissions and smbmount
I'm using Samba 2.0.6 on a Linux server. When using smbmount or mount to mount a share from an NT server, how do I set file permissions. An older smbmount allowed a -d and -f switch to set the file permissions. The newest one does not support these. The man pages for smbmount and smbmnt mention using syntax that does not work. I finally have gotten the mount command to work, but now I

smbmount often doesn't go daemon
Hi, Since i upgraded to Linux Redhat 9.0 / samba-2.2.7a-8.9.0 / kernel 2.4.20-9 i have the following problem: # smbmount //amd/Films /mnt/disk -o username=jan, password=XXXXXX # In 50% of the times i do this command it mounts the share and goes into daemon mode and ps -aux shows one process smbmount. All ok. However in the other 50% the command just hangs. If i open a new window it did do

mounting smbfs
I am having trouble mounting a smbfs mount in redhat 7.3. I have read the man pages for mount, smbmount, smbmnt, but haven't had much luck. I am thinking I am just getting the syntax wrong. If I wanted to mount a system on my network with the ip address of 192.168.0.1, What would the syntax be for this? Any info would be of much help to me, Thank-You

smbfs input/output error
Hello All, I had a problem with 2.0.3 on RH6.0 (linux) where a mount of an NT server share on my linux machine would mysteriously die after a period of time (a long time? not being used? don't know why, but hours of unuse). I would get an "input/output error" when I tried to do a df later. To get around the problem, I found I needed to "umount" (not smbumount) the

Mounting for non-root users
This has been asked before but the answers haven't worked for me.I upgraded from 2.2.7 to 3.0.0. I used to connect to Windows sharesusing smbmnt in .bash_profile as a non-root user having chmod 4755smbmnt. Now this doesn't work: - smbmount won't let non-root users run it (even after a chmod) - smbmnt says "Failed to find real path for mount point" - mount -t smbfs says
