Strange file Behavior
Samba Masters: I recently upgraded all of our Samba servers to 2.0.6. Previously, we had several versions running all the way from 1.9.15p8 up to the current release. Since the upgrade, there has been a strange problem reading text files on one of the shares. Here's the situation. The server is a Sun box with Solaris 2.5.1. A program that runs on this machine writes a text file into a

Name mangling bug: was samba bug?
Hi James, this sounds familiar - I believe I looked at a wire trace, and windows is dropping the trailing dots BEFORE it sends the request over the wire. so samba never sees the name foo..., thus does not create it. Hi, I'm using Samba 4.1.6 (version included in last Ubuntu LTS version). I've some directories in a share. One of them has an exe file. In root of my share I've a lnk file to this exe. Samba + NIS + ADS
Samba Admins: This is my second post on this matter so my apologies for redundant requests for help. My first request yielded only one response which did not solve my current problem. Background: We have been using Samba on Linux (Redhat) for several years to access shares on Sun servers. The Sun environment uses NIS/NFS for user accounts and sharing (mounting) remote file systems. Accessing

Directory listing with 11k files very slow to list
Hello, I have a samba server which has a directory with 11764 files. (The program stores information about jobs and each job has 3 files, nothing I can do about it). When I do a listing of that directory using smbclient, it takes 15+ seconds to complete, same thing on Windows XP. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can speed this up? I did a log on log level 10, it is accessible at

Upgrade broke file locking
Prior to upgrading from RH7.0 to RH7.3 our Samba filserver worked perfectly. Now we are having locking problems. Initially Iused the same samba binaries built on RH70, I tried rebuilding Samba and reinstalling but it had no effect. If user bon opens an M$-Office file they frequently get a 'file is already in use by bob'. Sure enough smbstatus -L shows the file locked by bob, but bob

Missing 'getGroupMembers()'
Hi, I'm trying to write a method such that my own classes can be used with the groups like "Summary" and "Math", but when I tried to look for examples or just wanted to get an idea of which functions are the members of a group, I found out that the function "getGroupMembers" is not present... I couldn't find an alternative function, if there is one. Does

Insufficient Disk Space
I'm looking at migrating a small Netware 3.12 server to a Linux box with samba for a small office. They use a DOS program called `ACCPAC' to do their accounting; both the program and it's data reside on different exported volumes on the netware system. I set up a linux box (for testing- deployment later, maybe) to make sure the program would run with samba before going ahead and just

DOS programs unable to create files on Samba 2.2.7a
We have a few old DOS programs which, when run under Windows 2000 is a DOS full screen session are unable to write files on our Samba server. These programs (the "brief" editor, and the "tango" CAD package) are able to write to local files on the Windows 2000 system. I set Samba debug to 10 and found the following reported when Tango tried to write a file:
