W95 and no update from samba shares
Hi,
i have a annoying problem that drives me crazy.
We have set up a Digital/Unix box with samba and the clients (W95) can mount
the shares from this box. On the Unix side we create a textfile which will be
periodically (or not) appended with new data. A Application on the W95 side
reads this file.
The Problem is, that the textfile has new lines, the Application don't see
them !!!

ANNOUNCE: alternate mail archive site
I really dislike ListProcessor, the mailing list software samba.org
uses. There's a lot of reasons, most having to do with header
rewriting, but that's not the point of this message.
One thing I don't like is its list archive feature. The archives are
hard to navigate, and the threading is atrocious. I'm accustomed to
MHonArc-generated archives, like they use at debian.org and

slow backup using W98
I have been using Samba as a Windows server replacement for years, both
in my shop and most of my clients. Recently I replaced a WNT 4 server at
a customer location with a Linux box - Mandrake 10.0 - which is strictly
a file server.
The machine my client is using to backup his server is a W98 box w/
350MHz/256MB, an HP Travan tape drive and Stomp Backup My PC V5.0. This
backup was taking about 4

Networking problems - Fedora 3/samba/Win XP
After pulling out most of my hair, someone told me of this mailing list. He
suggested you may be able to help. Rather than describing my problem again
(it goes on for a while, sorry). Could one of you brain surgeons look at the
following link and try and shed some light. Thanks in advance:

openvpn
I have a workgroup server with samba operating well and have configured
openvpn on it. That also seems to be working well. I also have other
servers at different locations with samba/openvpn working.
To access the openvpn server I use Windows and manually map a drive to a
drive letter using U: as \\servername\sharename
The shares work but I am mapping _through_ the samba server - that is I

64 bit application on 32 bit machine
Yes, that's right! I tried a search, but the (Google) search engine told me that I don't know what I am talking about!
I downloaded an application DfuSe, and tried to install it. Wine installer told me that I needed another program and offered to download. I agreed, but this was unsuccessful. However the Install Wizard went ahead and installed. But trying to run was a failure.
Today, I

This is broken (and insecure) behaviour.
We are seeing erratic behaviour from Samba for connecting Unix
drives to an NT terminal Server.

running WinCenter NIS Logon Utility.
The NT server is not part of a domain and uses the WinCenter Logon

server.

Shares are comming and going
Hia,
I have a problem using the %G parameter.
At the end if my smb.conf file I have something like:
include = \etc\smb.conf.%G
At this way I hoped that according the the group, I can
load a configuration file accoring the the users group.
Instead that a 'smb.conf.it' group is loaded, a
samba tries to load 'smb.conf.nogroup'
(guest account is uid=nobody gid=nogroup)

observations on nt smb support = no
We use Samba 2.0.6 as server, the clients are about 10 NCD WinCenter
(NT 3.51 multiuser, WinCenter 3.0.34 based on Citrix WinFrame 1.6)
machines with about 70 concurrent users each and several WinCenter (as
above) and NT Terminal Server (NT 4.0 multiuser with
MetaFrame/WinCenter (X11 addon)) machines.
The 2.0.6 smb.conf manpage says:

Control of Quartz Window Location
If I use
plot(1:10)
quartz()
plot(1:10)
I get the second graph window almost on top of the first graph window.
How can I control the location of the quartz window?

Virus checking
We are using samba to give our NT users access to our UNIX servers (running
Solaris 2.5.1) and to give our UNIX users, using Wincenter, access to their
UNIX directories.
We want to be able to run a virus checker (Network Associates VirusScan)
from a NT 4.0 workstation and have it check the samba (UNIX directories).
Since we want to centralize this activity, I want to be"root" on the

Unusuall printig problem
Hello,
As anybody ever experienced the following problem:
When we try to print a page, we get the following error:
Unable to start print job due to insufficient memory or invalid printer
specification
The strange thing is that it was working fine before, we tried to add an
additional printer
and after that nothing was working. If we remove the printers and
recreate just this one
we get the

samba and Citrix Metaframe
Hi,
Is it possible to use samba with Citrix Metaframe to allow Unix users
running Windows applications and having access to their unix
directories?
I'd like to know if there is no problem of authentication and
permissions.
Thanks in advance
Benoit.

Memory leak in 2.0.7?
I have been experiencing a problem here after having upgraded last week
to 2.0.7 (from 2.0.4b) on Solaris 2.6. The smbd processes are growing in
size until they are taking over the system. I just had to stop and start
samba on a system that had smbd processes of 26 M, 24 M of which was
resident in memory for most of the processes. After stopping and
starting again, the processes are back down in

SPAM: Get Rich NOW!!
Hello root@inet.hkg.com,
It looks like someone, at your end, is leaking SPAM into the Samba list.
The apparent source of this SPAM is <inet.hkg.com> which, unbelieveably, is
a real address. They are then relay-raping the Singapore Network to get it
into this list.
After careful deliberation, I have conciously decided to forward this one
message into the samba lists. All future SPAM

cross-subnet browsing
I have 2 subnets. Subnet 1 has an NT WINS server. Subnet 2 has a Samba
server acting as domain master browser and local master browser
for a workgroup.
If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 1
(call it PC_A), I can see all the hosts in the workgroup on both subnets.
If I view the network neighborhood from a Win 95 PC on Subnet 2
(call it PC_B), I cannot see PC_A. I
