Browsing problem with XP Media Center Edition
Hi all! I've got a samba-3.0.14a-2 running on a single subnet. It has been my WINS server for a long time and has done well, until now. The dhcp server on the subnet is telling all clients to use the file server as WINS but when one of the employees here plugs in his XP Media Center Edition, browsing is failing. It's failing by only showing the file server, the XP MCE and eventually the

Hi to all, I have a samba server that was working with security share in one subnet and now is listening on another interface, configured as a PDC logon server with wins support and w98 clients, I followed the howto: http://www.linuxfocus.org/English/March2002/article177.shtml The clients added to the domain execute the logon scripts fine, but they do not see the samba server in nethood, though

XP pro winning election on domain
Hi all, Today our domain went down. When looking in the log it appears that a windowsXPpro machine won the election. The domain controller has an OSlevel of 65 (3.0.14a). Restarting the smb process (/etc/init.d) resolved the problem. How is it possible that the XP machine was able to win the election ? After the election the XP machine (of course) failed to become the master browser. But why

Problem with master browser, Vista kills network neighbourhood
I have a Samba Server 3.0.23a running on a Fedora 4. Since Vista entered my lan I've been having problems with master browser elections. When a Vista client connects to my workgroup it kills the network neighbourhood and the only machines seen is the vista client and my fileserver. By changing the regedit entries on the client side following this advice: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM

nmbd strangeness with 2.0.6
Hi all, I finally upgrded Samba to 2.0.6 last night. After doing so, I have observed some strange behaviour. First of all, although domain master, local master and preferred master are all set to true, the server running samba fails to become the local master browser on one subnet (succeeds on another subnet though). The messages from the log file are as follows: [2000/03/16 22:08:50, 0]

Windows rejects name registration
Dear people of samba, my problem seems to be a firewalled WinXP in our net. Our Samba is the Debian testing (Samba 3.x). It is configured to hold the browsing list and to become master. Browsing 3.0.2 from Windows 2000 domain
Hi, I'm trying to make a linux file server that is browseable from a windows 2000 domain, via authentication from a windows 2000 server. Ultimately, I want to be able to control permissions on the samba shares using Windows 2000 Server Manager. smbclient lookup fails when querying local machine
Debian Sarge, Samba 2.2.12 (legacy install), openLDAP 2.2.17, connecting to a PDC running Samba 2.2.8a. The machine in question failed DIAGNOSIS.txt step 3. I've got a really odd issue -- a Samba server that can "smbclient -L" everyone but itself. Samba still serves shares and PDC authentication works fine, but this failure is annoying, and as such, must be fixed. :) -- issued

Setting up more than 1 samba domain logon server in the same subnet
Hello all, I have a samba domain logon server set up for Windows 98 clients using SambaV1.9.18p8. Logon and sharing are working perfectly fine. It is serving workgroup yyctpa. Today, I installed SambaV1.9.18p8 again on another Solaris 2.6 running on a PC (name TMA), using the same smb.conf as the workable version but serving a different workgroup yyctpb. I created an account testuser in the

nmbd log error - register_name_response rejected?
Hello all, I'm in the process of moving over my Samba server (using LDAP). I believe everything is functioning correctly, except for this error I get when nmbd starts. Looking back at my old server, it was apparently doing this as well... so it may not even affect needed functionality. Still, I'd like to figure out why it's happening! If anyone has an idea, please let me
