Old Samba 1.9.16p9, NT 4.0 SP3 & NT 4.0 SP4, read-write problems
Hello list. I've been running an old version of Samba (1.9.16p9) to give
read-only access to my Digital UNIX 4.0B workstation hard drives (the share is
called "rootdir"). It's worked great for over 2 years for that purpose. I
finally want to give read-write access to 2 users (myself and my assistant).
Her computer has NT 4.0 with Service Pack 3. Mine has NT 4.0 with Service

[SOLVED] Win NT 4.0 SP4 access to Samba 1.9.16p9
Hello folks - back on April 2nd I asked why my NT 4.0 with SP4 computer
wouldn't connect to my old copy of Samba (1.9.16p9), while my neighbour's
NT 4.0 with SP3 computer did just fine. This was in the case of a
read-write share that only myself and my neighbour had access to under our
user names. A read-only share worked just fine on both our computers.

SUM: After upgrade to 2.0.6, Win98 users can't connect to Samba shares
Hi everybody -
Yesterday, I said that my Windows 98 & 95 computers couldn't connect to my
Samba shares after upgrading from version 1.9.16p9 to 2.0.6, while my NT
4.0 (SP4 & SP6) computers could, even though I had the same user names &
passwords on all the machines (UNIX, Win'9x, NT).
I re-read the "What's New in Samba 2.0.6" document this morning, and found

I've installed Samba ("latest") on SCO's openserver 5 with a WIN'95 hanging
off of it as a client.
I can run every test in DIAGNOSI.txt except for number 2. That is, the WIN'95
box can not ping the SCO box within a reasonable amount of time.
(SCO can ping the WIN'95 box fine). For the longest time I thought the WIN'95
box couldn't ping the SCO box but I

long username - netlogon problem - access denied
I'm running samba 2.2.4 on rh 7.2. Everything's been working well
for months.
I use the domain logon feature to map drives when '98 users logon
to the domain.
Recently I've had a couple machines refuse to process the logon
script and I can't figure out why.
Here's the Windows output:

I get a no logon servers available message. Does this mean that my samba

I get this message when trying to access user level shares on a Win'95

JetDirect
Hi,
WOW, this was posted over a year ago! A response now.
The problem still exists. As reconfirmed in a post i read not to long ago
(within the last 2 weeks?). HP jetdirect cards can only do one thing at a
time. (HP has been writing Jetdirect firmware for 5 years, PLEASE HP you
_MUST_ have the ability to fix it?! Or don't you??)

smbclient 3.2: smbc errno NT_STATUS_OK -> 22
As I was upgrading other things, the Debian package management system required me to upgrade Samba, from 3.0.24-6 to 3.2.0-4.
All the sudden it quit working, which means I can't run an smbget or smbclient will allow DIR and CD but not GET. Either way with the new version I get (debugging on at level 10)

Microsoft Office XP Install problems on wine
I'm trying to install Office XP on Fedora 3, with the 12/1/2004 wine build from
the source. I tried the suggestions given by Ronald Nave on Dec 2/2004
(installing DCOM98, windows installer), but to no avail, and I get the following

installing Microsoft Office under wine
I have been unable to install Microsoft Office 2000 under wine on
several Fedora Linux machines. The problem seemed to start with the
June 2004 release of wine and has persisted for every version I have
tried up to and including the latest 12/01/2004 version.
I have tried both RPM install and compiling from source with similar
results.

Win'95 printer lock-ups & filters
Greetings all,
I hope this is appropriate for this list, if not I'll take it somewhere
else. ;-)
Printer lock-ups:
I have some printer shares available on my Samba server (RedHat Linux
kernel 2.0.32, Samba 1.9.18p3) and they are working just fine in most
cases, but from time to time the Win '95 client will either lock up while
printing or send a print job samba & lpd don't like

script to automatically install printers to win clients?
Hi
I have a samba server 3.0.0-15 acting as a PDC on a
Windows domain (98, XP and 2000). Is there a way to
automatically install printers to windows clients
when users log in? Maybe by running a logon
script...
Thank you in advance.

C caron character in R
Hi!
In R 1.6.1. for Windows using RGui interface I try to use characters of
Slovenian alphabet. Slovenia is a small Slavic country south of Austria
with 3 characters which are not found in English alphabet, namely C, S
and Z- all with caron. As S and Z are presented OK in both Console and
Graphics window, this is not the case with C caron, which is shown as E
acute- for an example please see:
