smbd daemon uses all filedescriptors
We are running samba on a number of HP systems running HP/UX 11.00.
We moved from samba version 2.0.7. to samba version 2.2.3a.
We have about 200-400 smbd's running on one host.
Samba version 2.2.3a was running without any problems for about two weeks.
But now on two different servers indepent of each other, the file table
was full.
We found out that ONE smbd used about 5000 !!

I'm new to the list, so please be patient with me.
Samba 2.0.7 is running on a compaq alpha server es40 with

We got a problem with powerpoint files on a samba share.
As soon as I open a powerpoint file on a samba share the
modification time of the file changes, even if I'm not
changing anything whithin the file. This only happens if
I open *.ppt files which where

msdfs
Hello,
Last week I submitted a problem with msdfs on samba.
I didn't receive any reaction. I've also tried the samba-cvs version but
this
has also problems.
We really like to use msdfs from samba, because we want to put all our
homedirectories
( more than 4000 ) in one dfsroot. This is not possible with Microsoft's
dfs because this
has a limit of 1000 .... I didn't found this

time date stamp since, january 1st 1970
Hello, we are receiving some data, sample below - with a weird time/date
stamp format, we need some help with R on converting this time date
stamp to a useable field in R, date and time in a data-frame. The
developer says its the number of milliseconds since midnight, January 1,
1970.

time and date stamp in voicemail
Hi,
I see that there's been some very light discussion on having a standard time
and date stamp in VM. How can I implement it today? (About to offer a
system to a customer but they need the stamp to tell when people called.)
Thanks,

date/time stamp
Hi
?Is there any way to reproduce the FTP behavior with Samba 3?
The desired effect is not to respect timestamps from Windows files and
just create them with Samba server date/time stamp when we drag/drop,
copy/paste, cut/paste, old files to a disk share.
We are replacing an FTP server with Samba3, so far it's doing great job,
but this effect is needed (don't ask why please, app

histogram of time-stamp data
Readers,
A data set consists of time-stamp values:
00:00:00
23:11:00
06:22:00
The data set was imported:
timestamps<-read.table("path/to/timestampsvalues")
hist(timestamps)
...error... x must be numeric
Then tried:
plot(timestamps).
How to adjust the graph to create a histogram where the intervals
ranges can be specified, e.g. intervals of 60 minutes?
Thanks in advance.

Is the "tcp time stamp validation issue" fixed in 5.4?
Hello
I'm a bit confused about the "tcp time stamp validation bug" mentioned
in the http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls/id/637934 advisory. FreeBSD has fixed
this issue in -current (2005-04-10) and in RELENG_5 (2005-04-19).
Is this also already fixed in 5.4? The CVS ID for tcp_input.c does not
look like this. But I'm not sure.

convert 12 time stamp to 24 hour
Readers,
For a 12 hour time stamp:
> testtime<-("2013-01-01 01:00:01 PM")
> testtime
[1] "2013-01-01 01:00:01 PM"
> testtime24hour<-strftime(testtime,'%H:%M:%S')
> testtime24hour
[1] "01:00:01"
how to convert to 24 hour format so that the object 'testtime24hour' is:
'13:00:01'
Thanks.

Strange time stamp behaviour
We're having this strange problem with Samba and I have not been able to
pinpoint the problem in any way. I'm hoping someone has come across a
similar problem and has a workaround or fix.
Some files opened on a Samba mounted volume from MS Developer Studio,
keep wanting to get reloaded.
For some reason, MS Dev Studio keeps thinking that a file it just opened
was subsequently modified.

problems with msdfs
We did some tests with msdfs on HP/UX with samba version 2.2.1.a and we
found a strange
problem.
We create a msdfs root on a HP/UX system with samba version 2.2.1.a and
create a link
in it to an HP/UX system with samba version 2.0.7.
We mapped the link in the msdfs root on a NT4 system to drive F.
The share contains the source of samba and in explorer we went to :

PowerPoint + video problem
Greetings, gentlemen.
I'm trying to make videos play in PowerPoint 2007. I've installed Windows Media Player via winetricks.
When I add video into PowerPoint, only sound plays.
I tried to install K-Lite Codec pack. In WMP some videos were playing OK, however PowerPoint crashed during video insertion into presentation.
When I removed K-Lite, PowerPoint crashes no more but again I can

Yes: I have Tufte's monograph on my desk. (along with 4 statistics texts)
Yes: I am not the biggest fan of PowerPoint.
Yes: I am using R to generate charts, plots, trends, etc. I have to summarize them each week.
When I consider how to organize this data my first thought is to generate an HTML file with links to the R-generated plots, which HTML file organizes the plots in the required

Deadlocks in Powerpoint 2000
Hi,
I'm trying to run MS-Office under wine. As lang as I'm running the
applications from ${HOME}/.wine everything is working to my liking. But
when I try to put the .wine-directory to an other place I get problems with
Powerpoint.
I tested a lot to get Word and Excel running when installed in a read-only
directory. I used some symbolic links to place files and directories, which
need to
