slightly OT Win98 DNS question
I've got a W98/Samba LAN running with a 3Com OfficeConnect LANModem for shared internet access. Periodically, like every 10 minutes, it dials out, due to a DNS request for the workgroup/domain (same) name. Any fix for this? Can I just put a dummy address in all the host files? OT: DOS partition table disk size vs. BSD
Hello... I apologize in advance for abusing the mailing list, but you readers are experts in a friend''s problem. Here is the problem reported verbatim from a knowledgable reporter, and I wonder if any of you can shed any light as to what''s happening here: >> The problem appears to be that the DOS partition table is reporting a >> disk size larger than what BSD

OT: hardware: sanitizing a dead SSD?
Probably too late for consideration at this point, but there are Enterprise Class SSDs available with DoD/NSA certified/approved self encryption capability. The concept is that encryption is a hardware feature of the drive, when you want to dispose of it, you throw away the key. This allows vendors to receive broken drives back from GOV/MIL clients securely so that failure methods can be

trac problems: tracd is dead
Well, tracd suddenly decided to stop serving requests today. As a result, we''ve re-enabled trac under mod_python, which unfortunately means you can expect more stack traces. We''ll continue working on resurrecting tracd, but please bear with us until we get it fixed. -- I am not young enough to know everything. -- Oscar Wilde

OT: hardware: sanitizing a dead SSD?
Disclaimer: My $dayjob is with a government contractor, but I am speaking as private citizen. Talk to your organization's computer security people. They will have a standard procedure for getting rid of dead disks. We on the internet can't know what they are. I'm betting it involves some degree of paperwork. Around here, I give the disks to my local computer support who in turn

Announcing EXT2FS lib for syslinux
Here is the initial release: git://github.com/donhiatt/Syslinux-EXT2FS-Library-port.git I am very new to git so I hope I managed to get the repo setup properly. The repo is branched from 'disklib' as I plan to use it for all disk read/write access (I'm currently using modified gpllib/disk/* -- see README). Cheers, don ----- README for ext2fs module. * Description -----------
