unable to sync browse lists
I'm having two problems. I encountered the second while trying to set
up a clean environment to work on the first. Can somebody tell me if
(a) I've done something obviously wrong, or (b) this is a known Samba
bug? Any help is appreciated.

browse lists and "ghost" machines
Greetings.
I'm running samba 2.2.1a on a network that consists mostly of linux
servers and win2k clients. There are N subnets here (roughly 18 or 20;
I lost track :) and cross subnet browsing is no issue. What is an
issue is that machines which go offline tend to remain in the browse
lists -- forever. Gack.
There are two main samba servers here: one which is used for file/print

browse list sync problem
I have a network with 3 subnets. There is a PDC one one subnet, and a
WINS server on each of the first two subnets which are replication
partners. (These three machines are running Windows 2000 Server.) So my
setup looks something like this:

lmb can't sync browse list with dmb, find_domain_master_name_query_fail
Hello.
Browsing accross subnets fails because "route2-3" can't sync its
local browse list with the domain master browser "classix", which
is also the WINS server. Everything else is fine. There is 1 and
only 1 WINS server (classix) and no NT server.
The error message in nmb log of route2-3 is:

Wierd browse problem
Hi,
I'm running 1.9.18p7 in two places (two separate networks): one on
Solaris 2.5 and one on Linux 2.0.33 (RedHat 4.1).
The latter works fine, browsing included, 'smbclient -L server' lists the
machines and workgroups/domains. However, this is on a small (two
subnet) network.
However, the Solaris installation does not appear to be working properly

Getting my samba server to show up in browse lists
I've succeeded in making my samba server visible around the net, however
I can't convince the thing to appear in the browse lists on remote
subnets. I've read John Terpstra's article on configuring a browser at
http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/docs/BROWSING-Config.txt
however my (admittedly willful) ignorance of Microsoft networking is
making this article seem rather

I've added an OpenSUSE box on x.x.2.1 and have set it as the WINS server with a very simple

Sync browse list between multiple workgroups?
(Samba version 1.9.18p4)
I want to set up my environment thusly:
- 2 workgroups, each composed of multiple subnets.
- Each workgroup has a DMB and a WINS server (Samba only - no NT)
- The two workgroups should collate browse lists so that clients on
either workgroup can browse and connect to hosts on the opposite workgroup.
I've read the documentation in BROWSING.txt and it does not appear

remote browse sync triggers error Packet send failed
Hello,
I need to use WINS browsing to allow Mac computers to list Windows served printers.
Mac clients and Windows print server (Windows 2012R2) are on separate subnets:
- Mac clients on 10.1.0.0/16 subnet
- print server on 10.10.0.0/16 subnet
A Samba server (10.1.10.24) is a master browser on subnet 10.1 and another Samba server (10.10.31.73) is a master browser on subnet 10.10

Browse List Question - please help!
I've RTFM (inlcuding the very nice BROWSING.txt and BROWSING-Config.txt) as well

Browse lists from other workgroups across subnets
I have problems to get browse lists from other workgroups across subnets.
On win95 network neighbourhood I have a complete list form all computers
in the same workgroup (including computers located on an other subnet) and
a workgroup list. But if I try to look at the computers on an other
workgroup I get an error message: workgroup not available.
The subnet has an samba server (2.0.3) configured

How are Browse lists maintained for Multiple Domains?
Hi,
I have read all I can find about browsing (BROWSING.txt,
BROWSING-Config.txt, SWAT pages, etc.
There are many discussions on the precise dynamics involved in Local
Master Browsers synchronising with a Domain Master Browser (in a
cross-subnet environment).
I am trying to understand the mechanism that is used when there are
Multiple Domains on the same network, and how the Browse List is

Some clients can browse and some can't
I am very confused by how our browsing works.
I have three samba servers on two different subnets all
set up to be in the same workgroup. (No other machines
are in that workgroup.)
None of them have a guest account set up.
When nt clients browse the network (in explorer's map network
drive), they do see the samba workgroup.
If you click on the samba workgroup, some clients are given the

Cross-subnet browsing with multiple domains/workgroups
Hi,
I'm trying to set up browsing across subnets to provide an
'enterprise'-wide (sorry for the MS term ;-) browse list / Network
Neighbourhood.
I've read BROWSING.TXT, but I can't see how machines on different subnets
in different domains/workgroups sync up (using Samba, anyway).
On my local subnet, I've set up a clunky old Linux 386 (Samba 1.9.18p8)
as the browse
