file permissions problem; please help
I have a Redhat 7.3 system running Samba server for Windows98 networked
users. These users are registered users on the Linux box, using encrypted
passwords mirrored in Samba's password list. These users need to have file
ownership for existing and new files edited on their Windows PC's. To allow
this, I've made the following mods:

3.0.3pre1 byte range lock leak?
I'm having a problem involving Outlook and .pst files and a lock that is
getting "stuck" I believe.
Once Outlook crashes in the fashion it does, it is unable to reopen the
file, claiming it is already in use. Explorer also does not let me
access the file. Rebooting the workstation does not fix it.
smbstatus does not show the lock, however hwen I show byte range locks,

Byte Range Locks
Hi,
We still got problems with locking here. People don't get a hanging Word/Excel
anymore but sometimes people get error messages from outlook that some other
process has a byte range lock on a file.
Now when I run smbstatus -B on the samba host I get tons of lines like this
Byte range locks:
Pid dev:inode R/W start size

Stale byte range locks - How can I remove them w/o restart?
I am having a problem that I have seen described in various bug reports..
One filed bug (#1267) was supposed to have been fixed in 3.0.7 but this
problem is still existing in 3.0.10 from what I can tell. Here's what I see:

originates in Samba.
File server (no domain) is serving a mix of Windows 10 and Centos 7
clients, I have strange byte range locks.
- Server is Samba 4.17.5 / Kernel 5.14.0 Rocky 9.2
smbstatus -B gives:

Bad password problem
Dear David,
I have the same bad password problem with my windows98 workstation.
I have spent quiet a bit of time analysing this problem but still could not find any resolution.
Did you manage to find any better solution for this problem?

Speed problems with 2.0.6 and FreeBSD3.4-stable
Hi,
I have a FreeBSD box and connected to i via 100Mbit ethernet I have a
Windows98 computer using nat.
I'm using Samba 2.0.6 to easy be able to copy files between the two.
Using samba has always been slow. Just to give show how slow I made
a test. I copied 3 files with a total size of 7.4 MB. When copying

Fw: Session logging in Windows98?
Does anyone have a function such as tee() described below?
It would be nice not to have to go to Emacs and have to deal with yet
another editor.

Oplock break request failures
I hope someone can enlighten me on this.
Situation: NT network, Samba PDC, about 20 NT 4.0 workstations. log(s).smbd
are created per machine for easier analysis (as log.smbd.<NetBios Name>).
Not often, but often enough to be of concern, are errors in
request_oplock_break that seem to indicate that another smbd process that
should be listening for break requests on a UDP socket

tdb locking issue - Solaris 10 and Samba 3.0.33
(Yes, I should upgrade Samba to 3.0.35).
We're running the Sun provided Samba daemon (SUNWsmbau and friends) on
Solaris 10 Generic_138888-08 (sparc).
Lots of Windows clients (mixed XP, 2003, 2008) hit this server and
periodically we'll start seeing smbd processes begin piling up. These
processes can't be killed with a normal kill -- only kill -9 will do
the trick.

Re-How to enable domain logon from NT workstation
Hi,
This is really a follow on from Sandie's (shui@pointsnoth.com)
problem of using samba to act as a domain logon server for NT
Workstation 4.
I have tried using samba2alpha8 (on Linux 2.0) and have failed to
get the domain logon working from NT Workstation although Windows98
worked fine. I followed the instructions in Samba NT Domain FAQ
apart from the use of encrypted passwords which
