smbpasswd on solaris 2.6

I am having problems doing the same thing on solaris 2.6. I have run the mksmbpasswd.sh and the smbpasswd file got created. I have added the following lines to my smb.conf file:

smbpasswd command won't work
I am trying to setup a /etc/smbpasswd file for my users. I use the following command to create the /etc/smbpasswd file cat /etc/passwd | ./mksmbpasswd.sh > /etc/smbpasswd Redhat 7.1, samba 2.2.5 I thought that users could log onto the linux system and simply type the command: smbpasswd and it would ask for the new password. But it asks for an OLD password which never works. I thought

mounting smbfs from a Solaris 7 box
Has any Sun Solaris samba admin ever attempted to mount to a WindowsNT server? Unfortunately after several attempts and some elaborate syntax I can not get this to work. I do not see that Sun supports smbfs as Linux does. If anyone has any ideas or tricks please drop me a line. smbpasswd encryption (2.2.3a - RH 7.2 - kernel 2.4.7-10) Win2k
Hi listmembers, due to a few very short but good tips from you guys and to much hassle with my firewall (ipchains) I finally got samba running as a server and client (I even made an update from source, just with normal ./configure, make, make install after uninstalling the previous version of course). With "encrypted passwords = no" everything is working fine (except for some minor

X flag in smbpasswd?
mksmbpasswd.sh does not create accounts with the X flag in the password flags field. Does this X matter, and if so, what does it mean? Joining an NT domain using the smbpasswd command
I'm evaluating Linux (Redhat Linux 8.0), with a view to migrating from Windows but have been having a frustrating few days trying to configure Samba 2.2.5 via the terminal from within the Gnome GUI. I can get Samba to work when it comes to Windows clients using the Linux box as a file server but am having no joy when I attempt to use the smbpasswd command to join an NT domain. I keep

non-root users cannot use smbpasswd...
...we are running a samba-2.0.6 server on a Sun E3000, to provide file and print service (but not logon service) to users on PCs. It works fine except for an enormously annoying problem: ordinary (nonroot) users are not able to change their own samba passwd. When a user invokes smbpasswd he or she gets the following response: euler$ /usr/local/samba/bin/smbpasswd Old SMB password: New SMB
