Samba on Linux with no ACL's is making things tough
Please for give me if this gets a bit long. I am presently in the process of moving my company's file server from Windows NT 4.0 over to Linux with SAMBA and the lack of ACL support in the ext2 filesystem is making things very difficult to design. To clarify I am NOT writing about Samba's support for NT ACL's on NTFS. I am writing to possibly get some tips for getting around the lack

sievec fails when last line is a comment without trailing \n
Hi, when switching from Dovecot 1.1 + cmusieve to Dovecot 1.2 + sieve I stumbled upon the following problem: My sieve files, generated with Dovecot 1.1's managesieve, did not compile anymore with sieve's sievec. The error message was: error: end of file before end of hash comment. Looking a bit closer I found that the last line, which was a comment, did not have a trailing newline.

[Linux] Samba as Wins Server and Domain Controller
As much as I love Samba, OpenSores, Linux and apple pie, setting Samba as an NT domain controller used to be a bit of a hack that required a lot of shoe horning, and a lot of reading, and experimentation. Get the books, sign up for the support email list and be prepared for a bumpy ride. The problem is that certain things *should* work a certain way, but such is not always the case and you

two-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smirnow (2DKS) test
The reference below describes the utility of the two-dimensional Kolmogorov-Smirnow (2DKS) test for detecting relationships in bivariate data. If this test has been implemented in R I would love to know about it! Thanks, jake Garvey, J. E., E.A. Marschall, and R.A. Wright (1998). Preventing deletion of folders under a SAMBA share
I am trying to set up a basic Samba server and configure it so that folders under a share cannot be deleted accidentally by a user. The ideal scenario would be to have the top-level folders under the share non-deleteable, but folders and files are able to be created under it. I cannot find any easy way of doing this directly, but thought that the use of the 'veto' option would work

Anyone who is experienced with wine and/or CrossOver
I am on a Macbook 4,1 with 4GB ram and X3100 GPU running 10.5.6, VMware Fusion 2.0.2 and CxGames 7.2. I am trying to get Runes of Magic to run, and I think it has something to do with wine. I tried installing and running this game in win2k, winxp, and vista bottles and all yeilded the same result (the pic). I am not running any additional commands to the application (-dx8, -noshaders, etc). I

Group policy for Win2K/XP
Has anyone looked in to domain policy for Win2K/XP machines from a SAMBA controlled domain? I have played around with these policies from within a Win2K AD-domain, and wondered if I can carry my policies over to a SAMBA domain. Any info, or reference to relevent documentation is appreciated. This mail has passed through an insecure network. All enquires should be directed to the message

Invalid Argument ls dir mounted share
I'm using Fedora Core 6 which uses cifs.mount version 1.10. When mounting shares from a particular Windows 2003 R2 server, I cannot read certain directories. For example, when performing an 'ls' command as follows: [root@backup Admin]# ls /share/CORP-SERVER/C\$/Corp/User\ Files/xxx\ Finacial\ Shared/Admin/Freddie\ Mac/ ls: reading directory /share/CORP-SERVER/C$/Corp/User Files/xxx

Are your symlinks identified as symlinks on Samba/SMB shares?
Hi, I would appreciate someone testing if their system can recognize symlinks (as below) on their SMB share. My Mac and Windows machines can NOT recognize symlinks on my NAS's SMB share, they just identify symlinks as real files and folders. Why is this an issue? Because when I try to copy parts of these backups from the NAS it just loops back on itself forever. Eg: From NAS (QNAP TS-453A)

Deletion of directory symlink via Samba deletes files in original subdirectory on Unix
Hello -- We have a Solaris 10 ZFS server running Samba with "follow symlinks=yes" set. We're noticing that if you delete (via Samba) a file that is a symbolic link pointing to a subdirectory somewhere, with files in that subdir, it will not only delete the symbolic link file, but also delete the files in the target subdirectory. On Unix, if you delete a symbolic link, it will

sendmail smrsh symlinks not working against php scripts
Hello. I am trying to forward the e-mails received to one address towards a php script. I am trying all I can but nothing does. I have edited my /etc/aliases file and added this line. ecard-bounce: "|/usr/bin/php /etc/smrsh/ecardbounce.php" Then, of course I do a 'newaliases'. In my /etc/smrsh I have placed the symbolic link defined above, which has been created this way: ln
