Machines not disappearing from browse list
Hello,
we are using "samba-2.0.6" (running on linux-2.2.14 machine). On our
client machines we use "Windows 9x". There are 2 network segments:
Segment 1 (192.168.1.0):
- 13 Win95 client machines
- 1 samba-2.0.6 server ("fsa01") which is WINS, DMB and LMB in its
network segment (192.168.1.0). This samba is also the login server for
our Win9x clients.

AW: AW: Windows Profiles not being placed in defined logon path
Hi Federico,
many thanks to you. This patch helped me too. Do you know the intention of
the original changes by the samba team in ipc.c. I don't think, it is a good
idea to store all profiles in an separate directory and the user registry in
the home path.
Thanks again

AW: Samba across subnets?
If you don't want to type the ip adress of your samba server every time you
connect, add a entry to your local hosts file and lmhosts file.
You will find this files (and sample files with extension ".sam") in the
windows main directory of Win95 and under "system32/drivers/etc" on WinNT
4.0.

AW: Smbclient bind to IP
I think, it's a good idea to control the binds of the smbclient as it's
possible on smbd.

AW: RH 6.1 samba 2.0.7pre3 BUG!
samba does the SMB(!) authentication against machine "a" but you MUST have
equal users on ALL machines. How else should samba create files on the unix
file system if there is no UNIX user to deal with? It is not a problem of
samba, it's a "problem" of unix. The only trick to do this would be to
create a dummy unix user and do a "force user" to this dummy on every

AW: How to print to CLIENT local printer?
You must create a output filter.
Edit /etc/printcap and add your client printer like this:
...
PC-PRINTER:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/PP01:\
:mx#0:\
:lp=/dev/null:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/Filter/PP01:\
:sh:
...
Adjust the printcap parameters as needed (spool directory, directory to find
the filter script). Make sure the lpd can access the directory. Consult your
manual.
Now create the filter

AW: Question on NFS mounted Shares
Hi James,
we use some NFS mounted shares on our Linux-SCO-network. Samba runs on the
linux box. The linux server mounts some NFS shares from the SCO server. The
access error should not be a samba failure. Make sure that the directory
above the mountpoint is accessable for user nobody (chmod o+x , if you
upgrade to samba > 1.9.18p7 make sure that there is read permission on the
directories too:

Connection still alive after client disconnects
Hi to all,
i've got same problems with "hanging" sessions. I use samba 2.0.4a on a
S.u.S.E. Linux with kernel 2.2.5.
After a client (win95) shuts down sometimes a session still locks the files
on the samba server. I tried to use the socket option "S0_KEEPALIVE" and the
global option "keepalive=600". During the day i see many log entries like

Signal 11 (cause and workaround found)
I encountered an bug in samba 2.0.7.
With the config option "logon home = \\%N\%U\profile" in smb.conf and
roaming profiles, smbd panics when the share "%U" is not listed in smb.conf.
I had some users for which i forgot to enter the accompanying share in
smb.conf. When such a user logged in or logged off, smbd paniced with signal
11. While on logging off the profiles where

Problems with printing=plp
Hello,
i've some problems with the plp printer spooler on linux:
I changed from bsd printing to plp printing.
Previously (with bsd style printing) i was able to browse and delete active
printjobs, stop and activate printers from within the win9x/winnt boxes.
After changing to plp this is no longer possible. The printjobs themself are
still printed.
Some output in the log.smb (with debug

Ok. I'm confused. Do you want llvm-gcc3 or llvm-gcc4? The tarball above is
a binary for llvm-gcc4 for Mac x86. You

Machine accounts by migrating from smbpasswd to ldapsam
Hi all,
I'm wondering what about machine accounts (WinXP) by migrating from
Samba 2.2.8 with authentication backend /etc/smbpasswd to Samba 3.0.4
with ldapsam.
Is it possible just to take NT hash from smbpasswd and paste it to
ldap record as sambaNTPassword?
I'm not able to login from machine vs3 to new domain. My
configuration files and log files follow. The Samba-SID is the same

Reading mcmc/coda into a big.matrix efficiently
I'm trying to read CODA/mcmc files (see the coda package), as
generated by jags/WinBUGS/OpenBUGS, into a big.matrix. I can't load
the whole mcmc object produced by read.coda() into memory since I'm
using a laptop for this analysis (currently I'm unfunded).
Right now I'm doing it by creating the filebacked.big.matrix, reading
a chunk of data at a time from the chain
