Digital UNIX - root authentication for SWAT
We have installed versions (1.9.18 and 2.0.3) of Samba successfully on AIX based servers without any problems. We are now trying to install Samba v2.0.4b onto a Digital UNIX 4.0d server. Everthing has installed correctly. Shares can be created through editing the smb.conf file and then accessed correctly through our NT network as desired. The problem we have is using the SWAT interface. We can

samba v2.0.3/Solaris 2.5.1/HP-UX 11.0/Rational ClearCase v3.2.1
Hi - I'm getting timouts trying to access us1.samba.org or I'd look through the archives first. Anyone currently supporting any versions of Rational's ClearCase/samba/UNIX/NT? We are currently running samba v2.0.3 on both HP-UX 11.0 (vob server) and Solaris 2.5.1 (view server). Rational ClearCase v3.2.1 on the two UNIX and NT Workstation 4 (some SP3, some SP4) We currently support

Persistent locked files & Win95
I often find with Samba v2.0.3 that files accessed via Win95 (OSR2) stay locked forever after exiting the application that used them. I've got an application called Visual SlickEdit (VSE), which is installed on a shared drive. The drive is an exported Samba share from my RedHat v5.2 (kernel v2.2.5) server. Both the Win32 and OS/2 versions of VSE are installed beneath the same subdirectory

Why 2 login failures before success?
Running Samba v2.0.4b on a RedHat v6.0 system, I find that when I log onto the server running Samba my authentication fails twice before succeeding. I get these messages in the Samba log file: [1999/06/16 11:45:11, 1] smbd/password.c:pass_check_smb(532) smb_password_check failed. Invalid password given for user 'steve' [1999/06/16 11:45:13, 1] smbd/password.c:pass_check_smb(532)

Samba not using my RAM for shared memory?
The Samba v2.0.4b doc says: share modes (S) These open modes are not directly supported by UNIX, so they are simulated using shared memory, or lock files if your UNIX doesn't support shared mem- ory (almost all do). Yet I have these files on my (RedHat v6.0 / kernel v2.2.10) system: # ls -l /var/lock/samba total 12 -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1048576 Jul 8

Win98: net use works, Map Network Drive doesn't; no browsing, either
Hi all! I'm using Samba v2.0.4b with Mac OS X. My Win98 machines are giving me behavior that I'm having difficulty diagnosing: * The server doesn't show up under Network Neighborhood. * Map Network Drive doesn't work with the "netbios name" I specified. I may be confused, but it doesn't work with the "workgroup name", either: \\NETBIOSNAME\SHARE NAME

smbtar/smbclient recovery problem
I am having trouble using tar (or gtar) to recover files built using smbtar and smbclient (v2.0.4b). The files are loaded on an exabtye tape - the script runs on a Sun/Solaris-7 box and the files being tar'd are on an NT box (v4sp5). There are no error messages when the tape is built, but when I try to read it tar will just stop about 1/3 of the way in (total size is about 850MB). After

Can time be set via Samba on a Linux platform?
When the Win9x and OS/2 machines on my LAN boot-up, they set the local time from the Samba (v2.0.4b) server. Is it possible to do the same thing on a Linux system? If so, how is it done? Yes, I know I can use rdate to accomplish the same goal, but I'm trying to restrict the accessible services on the server to the most minimal possible. Since I have to have Samba services anyways, I

2.6.21 and UML
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA512 Hi, Any chance of getting a snapshot/patch to apply to 2.6.21? Also, the FAQ doesn't mention UML but at a glance the two virtualizations look very similar - or am I missing something? The address space stuff looks like what skas0 does in uml? Cheers Antoine -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.3 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG

Even newer version of plotrix
Hi all, As I noticed that v2.0.3 of the plotrix package had been mentioned recently, I thought I should inform any interested users that there is a rather ugly bug in the floating.pie function that has been fixed in v2.0.4. As you may be aware, the package now contains the contentious 3D pie chart*. Have fun and let me know about any difficulties. Jim *Disclaimer - I'm not particularly

Asterisk Feature attended transfer
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm using the biult in feature attended transfer. If someone calls me, I hit the #, dial another extension and connect these two extensions. When hitting # and dialing the nr, asterisk only diales the new nr for 15 seconds. Is it possible to increase this time? I've only found the timeout for the digits, not for the call time. Anyone

Panic: file mailbox-list-fs.c
Hi, I have dovecot 2.0.3. Mailboxes have been converted with dsync from mbox to maildir last week. There it was still version 2.0.2. A user "produces" now this error: imap(userx): Panic: file mailbox-list-fs.c: line 150 (fs_list_get_path): assertion failed: (mailbox_list_is_valid_pattern(_list, name)) Error: Raw backtrace: follows. And all other imap processes are closing down.

Expunged GUID mismatch for UID error
Hi, we have upgraded from v2.0.1 to v2.0.3 yesterday, trying to solve the "dovecot-uidlist: Duplicate file entry" errors. Now, at the moment, we don't get these errors, but when I try to expunge mails from my trash folder I get a lot of errors: Sep 23 14:24:51 imap1 dovecot: imap(user): Error: Mailbox Trash: Expunged GUID mismatch for UID 20193: 442b5ef0c3d3bf3cf4cb619944dce8e4
