Browsing Issues and the FAQ
Just FYI, the FAQ is pretty good about addressing the browsing issues some
people have been mentioning. Here at Lumeta, I could never quite understand
why our domain would show some boxes from one person's PC and others from
another, after all, we're one domain with a Samba server, so what's the
deal, right?
Well, after reading the FAQ (

Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing?
Hello,
I have been searching for answers now more then a week, but I cannot find a
proper solution.
Please help me with this:
Scenario:
Two differnet subnetted networks (1 and 2) connected by a cipe tunnel
between two linux Samba boxes over the internet.
On network one (1) is a Windows NT PDC installed which currently is the DMB
for it's domain (1).
On network two (2) one of the linux

Re: Windows NT PDC and Samba PDC cross subnet browsing? (solved)
Hi everyone,
I think I solved it:
- I installed WINS on both sides on the PDC's (Samba on the one end, NT on
the other).
- On both subnets the clients are configured by dhcp to use their own PDC's
WINS as their primairy WINS server and the WINS on the remote PDC as their
"secondairy" WINS server.
- TCPIP configuration on the Windows NT PDC configured to use it's own WINS

Samba / NT / Win98 and Browsing
Hey all,
Our scenario is hopefully quite simple. A client has a MS Small Business
Server and about 6-8 Win98 clients. There are also two SCO v5 boxes, which
are running samba 2.0.3 (the precompiled version). From the NT box, we can
see the SCO servers, but from the Win98 boxes, the SCO servers are not
visible. Samba is configured to register its name with the NT WINS server,

Access to Samba server across subnets
Hello all,
I'm using samba 2.2.7a with winbind on a RedHat 7.3 (pre-installed by Dell)
server,
with an NT PDC/BDC, with the NT PDC acting as the WINS server.
Everything works fine on the local subnet 192.168.0.xxx, but we
also have an IPSec VPN set up with our western call centre,
and users on the western office subnet 192.168.10.xxx can't login to the
samba shares.
They can login to

Hi all,
I have Samba 2.0.7 running on Solaris 7 Ultra 450 , with NT4 ( 1 PDC and a BDC ) servers, and
Windows 2000 Pro, NT4 W/S, Win 98 as clients and a mixture of Sun workstations.
Everything is working fine, with the PDC also running WINS, DHCP and the BDC running IP Masquerading,
, web services and as a VPN server using PPTP.
The issue is with one of my VPN clients. Until yesterday, the

Browsing list problem
Hey all, bit of an odd problem here; perhaps you can help:
First off, we've got two samb a servers; one acting as a PDC, and the other
a BDC, both share the same dat, (they sync data back and forth to each other
using rsync for backups). Both access LDAP for users and passwords from
LDAP. WINS runs only on the first server, and the static entries are in the
wins database file for both

samba samba cross subnet browsing
Hi!
I am having some trouble with a samba domain distributed over 2 subnets
(192.168.0.0/23 (supernetted) & 192.168.4.0/24). These subnets are
linked over the internet through a IPSec gateway to gateway (network to
network) connection (i.e. all machines can reach/ping each other on both
subnets). The samba PDC (with LDAP backend) has IP 192.168.0.4 and there
is a BDC (LDAP slave) in

Samba Browsing and BDC +LDAP
Hello everybody. I have two questions today.
I am in the middle of moving my NT4 domain over to SAMBA 3.0 with ldap.
I get some errors while I am browsing computers in the new SAMBA domain.
For example "\\it1132 is not available. You might not have permissions
to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server
to find out if you have access permissions. An internal

[Fwd: Re: Migrating to samba from windows NT domain]
Yes, this would be possible;
1. Vampire your accounts on to a new Samba DC
2. Disconnect it from network
3. Denote your NT Dc's
4. Rejoin them to the Samba Domain
NOTE: As the other person said, while possible, this would be a bitch of
a job.
You said you need to maintain your NT server anyway, why not just put
the files and printers and what not on samba and leave the user accounts

"Workgroup-login" with plain password does not work from NT...
Hello!
Yesterday I wrote a mail to this list. Because it is very urgent and I didn't
see any response to it, I kindly please for help again.
The problem is:
After a server crash I decided to install SuSE 9.2 instead of SuSE 8.0. This
SuSE uses samba 3.x. The old (still running) 2nd server uses samba 2.0.3.
Both servers are configured to NOT use password encryption and are used as

NT password prompting?/Net. nbhd?
Hi,
I am a SysAdmin new to Samba. Recently I installed Samba 2.0.5 on Solaris
and IRIX to access user homes from NT. I have two problems.
Samba seems to be working fine with M$Win98 but with NT, Network
neighbourhood doesn't show the two samba servers even though I can see
them with "net view" command and also map the shares to drive
letters. How do I make my Samba servers appear

NT network neighbourhood
Hi,
I am a system administrator but new to Samba. We bought new PCs with NT
service pack 4 and I am trying to configure Samba(2.0.x) so that users can
access their UNIX(Solaris/IRIX) files from NT. I have two kinds of
problems.
Things seems to be perfect when I try this with Win98 but with NT, I can't
see the UNIX server from Network Neighbourhood. But "net view" shows all

Migrating to samba from windows NT domain
Hello,
I'm planning migration to Samba over Debian Etch servers from NT
domain with Windows NT servers.
I have only one domain, with 1 PDC and 5 BDC distributed on various subnets.
Unfortunately I have running various services in PDC and BDC servers
that I must remain after the migrations, so I can't stop PDC and BDC
servers permanently after the migration to Samba.
Can I deactivate

Access denied from NT
Hi,
I have a problem in accessing samba server from NT
network neighbourhood. I can see the samba server icon
on neighbourhood. But while trying to access then it's
asking for user name & passowrd.
I am not using local user & password from unix box
rather it should be authenticated from NT PDC and
accordingly I have modified the smb.conf file. Here is
the sample of that.
