samba-tng-alpha-1.1.tar.gz
ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha and mirror sites 1) i fixed a problem with nmbd's GETDC response, it is responding better but still not perfectly (and 2.0.x and cvs main need to be fixed, as well) as there exists no explanation for the correct response to locate a Domain Controller using GETDC. the upshot of fixing this is that joining an nt workstation to a TNG domain is now _extremely_

Files and printer sharing at Win 9x and Win NT Workstation
Hi Guys, I'm having some problems with my domain, I'm running Samba at a Debian Box as PDC for a Win NT Workstation Lab, a Win95 Lab and some W98 boxes. I also run Samba in Solaris 2.6 , the both work just fine, but I can't share printers, disks, or files, since I can't see the users list. (this happens with the both: Solaris'Samba and the Debian's Samba). If I try to

SAMBA as as printserver ..
Was looking for some quick advice on SAMBA as a printserver: I'm in the position of trying to "sell" my company on a Linux- based printserver to relieve the burden of handling 30+ printer spools off of our NT PDC (25 NT servers, and we're printserving off of our PDC .. don't ask me, I'm new here. =) With SAMBA 2.0.6, I have gotten SAMBA properly handling print requests

samba and net start
Hi, I was wondering if samba provides a means to start a programme on an NT server, specifically a service? This is equivalent to the 'net start' command, but I wish to start a service from my Linux server. Thanks Rob --

Fw: Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)
Hi Peter, i had a long, frunstrating web surfing yesterday night, searching for something that could apply to your case. I didn't find much at all, sorry. The only thing perhaps interesting to you could be this: http://us2.samba.org/samba/ftp/docs/htmldocs/printer_driver2.html This doc contains a section about migrating from 2.0.x to 2.2.x I think the problem lyes in the new way samba

using RPCS printer driver for a P&P printer
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with using RPCS printer drivers in a P&P printer share. Installing the driver onto samba went without a problem (followed the Samba howto "chapter 21: Add Printer Wizard Driver Installation") but after that, every time i try to access the printer properties it takes sometimes minutes to open or just doesn't come up at all (same

problems with w2k and samba PDC
I simply cannot join my domain controlled by a samba PDC (vers. 2.0 or the newest version 2.0.7) with w2k professional. If I try to join the domain a messagebox appears and claims that the particular domain doesn't exist (allthough I know it does!). If one examines the logfiles, it seems as if they don't understand themselves at all.

Do you want me to research the other two RPCs and tell you exactly

Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (re posted)
Did you change your "security" setting in your new Samba e.g. from "share" to "domain"? -----Original Message----- From: peter.a.bryant@mainroads.qld.gov.au [mailto:peter.a.bryant@mainroads.qld.gov.au] Sent: Friday, 14 March, 2003 7:00 AM To: samba@lists.samba.org Cc: John H Terpstra Subject: Re: [Samba] Win95 & Win98 - NOT WORKING - NT,2000, XP are ok (reposted)

Using rpcclient or samedit to randomise trust account passwords
when an nt 4.0 workstation or backup domain controller is joined to a domain, the trust account password is set to a well-known initial value. if you are concerned about internal network security, this is not really an acceptable risk: any captured network traffic can be decoded simply from knowing the name of the workstation, which is contained in the network traffic itself. the initial value

Joining forces with the Network UPS Tools
Hi Powermen ;-) I recently came across the Powerman project (http://sourceforge.net/projects/powerman/), pointed by Tony Merenda, from Opengear (thanks Tony). Congrats for your work in this area! I've thought a bit about Powerman and NUT since then... NUT currently supports hosts of UPSs and few PDUs (RPCs), and provides tons of features: http://test.networkupstools.org

best encoding
I've got some songs that I need OGG-ified as high quality as possible for my site, and I'm not sure how to go about doing it. I've checked out the tools available, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I should know about the process (above and beyond how to run the apps). Any advice in this area would be greatly appreciated. These suckers have got to be PERFECT...

endogenous variables in gam (mgcv)
Hello, I have a question. Suppose that I have a function to estimate with gam (in the mgcv package), y=s(x1)+s(x2)+XB where X is a vector of exogenous variables and x1 and x2 are explanatory variables assumed parametric linear functions of X and other exogenous variables Z. Is there a way to evaluate this equation with gam, allowing for endogeneity? If not, is there another

"PermitRootLogin no" fails
I'm running version 4.7p1 of OpenSSH on a Linux system (it was originally a RedHat system, but I've changed almost everything.) When I originally built OpenSSH I used the config option --without-pam, and installed the software in /usr/local. I explicitly forbade root login with sshd (by setting the PermitRootLogin to "no" in the sshd_config file), but found that I could login as

missing F statistic in anova.gam
Hello, I have encountered results which I am not sure how to interpret when using anova.gam to compare 2 different models. For certain tests the results do not include an F- or associated p-statistic. This happens when comparing certain models and not others, and I do not discern a patten explaining when the test works and when it does not. Here is some output for some of my tests (y#, x1, and

I was able to apply this clustering method to my data: ward1 <- Agnes(balances, diss= FALSE, metric = "euclidean", stand = TRUE, method = "ward", keep.diss =TRUE, keep.data =

(no subject)
hi, do somebody tell me, where i could find information about samba restrictions compared with Windows Server. I' m trying to write a small paper for school, which describe a comarison between samba and Windows Server. I heard for example, that 1-Samba is not adapted for great nets? 2-Samba has not a "system management server" like windows? 3-Remote Procedure Calls (RPCs) has been

Windows domain group policies
Hello, Does anybody have an idea how I can set a group membership to a domain user? I don't wan't to set the group membership on each computer one by one. And all Windows admins I asked, doesn't have any anticipation how this will work, if they don't have a button for click it. greetings Thomas
