Totalnet
We have used the Syntax TotalaNET product (TAS) for some years. This
provides similar funtionality to Samba. However the current version (5.2)
does not support Win98 and the upgrade cost is very high.
In looking at Samba as an alternative, I have two questions:
1. Does Samba fully support Win98?
2. Our users move easily between PCs, X-terminals and workstations,

%U and %u different between XP and Win98
I want to use %U to map My Documents to each individual's directory on the
Samba server. This is working fine in Win98 but in XP %U maps to "guest"
when I log in as "george". In Win98 %U comes across as "george".

Hello,
I've just replaced an NT4 server with a NetBSD box running
Samba 3.0.7.
There's 2 win98 boxes on the network, which were logging into
the NT server, so I set up samba as :

workgroup = BENFAB2
log level = 1
browsable = yes
server string = Samba %v (%h)
security = user
hosts allow = 10.0.0. 127.

problem exploring network from win98
Hi,
if I logon in the domain (samba3 acting as PDC on debian stable) from a
win2kp client (netbios name manually added to the server) with user A, I
see H: in "My computer" it's the user home on the samba server. When I
go in network resources there are the domain PCs.
Same procedure but from the win98 client, I don't see H (is the only way
I0ve find is to write net use h:

win98 access to samba
TWIMC,
I have a situation in which I can access my samba servers with win95
machines but not win98 PCs. When I double click on the server using the
browse list under win98, it prompts me for a password to access
//SERVER_NAME/IPC$ but denies me access after entering the password. I get
accepted with no problem at this prompt with win95. I compiled with the
defaults and shared the

Unencrypted/encrypted passwords when connecting from Linux to Win98
I am trying to use Samba between a RedHat Linux 9 system and several Win98
PC's. From the Win98 systems, I can see and access the Linux folders I
have made available. I can see the Win98 PCs and their shared directories
from the Linux box. Understanding that Win98 requires encrypted
passwords, I have set the "encrypt passwords" keyword in the smb.conf file
to "yes".

pxelinux problems with some Fujitsu-Siemens PCs and a solution
Hi,
I'm not subscribed to the list, so please cc me if you want to reach me.
We've found some interesting problem with some Fujitsu-Siemens PCs using
pxelinux:
The PCs are "FS Scenico L" with Athlon XP 1800+ CPUs and Via KT266
chipset. We tried to boot off pxe using pxelinux 2.09/2.10 with several
3com 3c905-* cards. The PCs loaded the kernel but right after

access networked PCs directories/files with R ?
access networked PCs directories/files with R ?
Dear group,
I would like to know if there is an "easy" way to access several
networked PCs directories/files from one PC with R ?
Concerned OS is windows.
I can for instance use dir() on my current PC.
Is there a way to do dir() on a connected PC ?
(Is there a special syntax for the path ?)
(read.table() or readLines() work with URLs
