Samba 4 "Services for UNIX"? [SOLVED]
To get the automount schema to work with the git checkout of samba 4 I had
to modify the automount schema files and separate the attributes from the
classes. I also discovered that it's required to have the
ntSecurityDescriptor , instanceType, and objectCategory attributes. Without
these it will crash whenever you try to browse... I did alot of stopping
samba, tarring of /usr/local/samba and

Everything fine again, but the next day they came in and told me about

Idealx programs and ldap backend
Hi,
I got the following setup.
I got a openLDAP server. This server is the master server for LDAP
functions. I named this ldapsrv.
I got a samba server with openLDAP install on it as well. This LDAP
server is the slave to ldapsrv. I named this sambasrv.
The sambasrv currently have the following setup in /etc/smb.conf:-

Solaris SMF services and their dependencies...
Hi all,
I have an NFS server on our network sharing out package files for
Puppet to install to all and sundry. The clients access said NFS
server via an automounter configuration (I don''t want the packages
share mounted all the time, only when installing packages) As a
result, installation of packages depends on autofs... So I have the
following:

rsync time machine backup permissions
What is the order that rsync uses to set permissions?
Time Machine directories have ACL permissions that basically prohibit making any changes of any kind. In order to make a backup of the directory, you would need to set those permissions after copying everything in the subdirectories.
Is rsync smart enough to do it in that order?

Hide share with a twist
I'm setting up a single SAMBA server that will have different
netbioses names:
netbios aliases SAMBASRV BACKUPSRV
Then I have two shares defined, [assets] and [digital], different
path on both.
Now, when I connect to \\SAMBASRV from my windows machine, I see
both the 'assets' and 'digital' shares available. Same if I connect to
\\BACKUPSRV. Is there a way

Yes!!!! You just solved a problem I've been having since 1.9.17p1!!!!
I didn't realize that CIFS was limited to passthrough authentication for
only its domain, so that listing multiple password servers from different
domains would not work...the following did. Yeeeehhaaa!
Hurm...excuse me.
I added to the following in my config to make this work:

Eclipse (Java) locking issues after upgrade (3.6.23 -> 4.4.3)
Hello,
We seem to not be able to use Eclipse with a network drive since we
upgraded our Samba server to version 4.4.3.
Here's the error we get:
mac-mini:MacOS user$ ./eclipse
java.lang.RuntimeException: Error initializing storage.

rsync time machine backup permissions
Time Machine will enable ownership on the drive the first time it starts up.
The first thing it does when it creates the backup directory is to enable ownership on the drive. I've seen this happen repeatedly (it's actually the easiest way I know of to enable ownership on drive).

Multiple password servers/domains
Hi all,
I've just installed the new version 1.9.18p7 on a Solaris 2.6 box. We
have multiple domains in our organization with trust relationships
(Domain authentication is handled by Windows NT servers). I would like
to be able to have multiple servers listed as password servers. If the
server authentication fails on the first server, it would try the next.
With this, I could have many

Hello Jeremy,
Sorry for the long delay for responding to your request (just came back
to the office after long Victoria day weekend).
I'm not sure if it's Ok to send such large attachements to the list.
So here's a Dropbox public link to download it:

ssh with iptables and equalize
Hi everyone,
I have a configuration for a router that load-balances between two ISPs.
What happens is that if a source-destination combination is looked up, one
of the two gateways will be chosen, and further lookups will stay on that
gateway until the chosen combination "stales" out. Web browsing works,
ftp works, kazaa and other applications work. ssh on windows (using
putty) works.
