Authentication failure question.
I am running Samba 2.0.6 and have had this minor nagging problem since v1.9.X. Every time a Win95 client accesses a share on the Samba box I get the following message in syslog(/var/log/messages) Mar 9 11:03:46 kesrith PAM_pwdb[31604]: authentication failure; (uid=0) -> henris for samba service The client does get thru and is not denied access but the message does pop up. They do have an

Complex question concerning samba/networks
OK, here is the situation. I have a total of 7 machines all on a LAN (two are W95) 5 are Linux RH6.1/Samba 2.0.6. One of the machines is a guest machine with an ip of 192.168.0.9 the rest are all on 192.168.1.X. I have run samba for a long time and thought I knew what I am doing. The machine with the separate IP address will not show up on the Network Neighborhood no matter what I do. I can

re; Startup
Being new to Linux (RH62) and Samba, I have a simple question and that is does Samba load automatically when the server is rebooted or do I have to write a script or configure a setting to have Samba load at bootup? Attn: darkeye@tyrell.hu RE: Darkice
You helped me a few weeks ago setup DarkIce. Well I had nothing but problems doing it on RH62 so... here I am again but this time armed with RH71. I followed your instructions for installing lame and ogg vorbis and it's all fine. When I tr to install DarkIce though I get the following error. # make make all-recursive make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/download/darkice-0.6' Making

dovecot.spec
hi, I'm just recoginze that dovecot contains an rpm spec file. unfortunately it's not too useful since an rpm -ta dovecot-.x.y.tar.gz can't be used since just the dovecot.spec.in is in the tarbar and not the actual spec file (which is in this from not useful in the above form). anyway here is my patch to the spec.in. -- Levente "Si vis pacem

Zeroing freed blocks
A couple of years ago there was a discussion on lkml under the thread 'PATCH - ext2fs privacy (i.e. secure deletion) patch' about zapping deleted data in the filesystem as a security mechanism. The discussion wandered off into how 'chattr +s' could be implemented and whether encrypting filesystems wouldn't be a better solution to the problem. I've been maintaining a

Samba and DOS
Greetings, Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about? Thank You. Use of pam_smbpass
Hi all. I've spent the last several days trying to get pam_smbpass working on my RH62 box with samba-2.2.x unsuccessfully, and hoped someone could help. I've tried versions 2.2.2 and 2.2.6, but I suspect it's perhaps a misunderstanding of what exactly pam_smbpass is used for. There are a few things I'm trying to do: - sync /etc/shadow with /etc/samba/smbpasswd - sync

(PR#1008) SIGSEGV began at 1.2.0
This behaviour is confirmed for RH70, RH62, Debian 2.2 on 3 different Pentium-class i386. I've checked back and package ann_0.2-2 works on 1.1.1, but fails with seg. faults on 1.2.0 (ann_0.2-2.pre3.tar.gz to accommodate the change in Makeconf) and subsequent (1.2.0 checked today on RH62 with gcc 2.95.3 19991030 (prerelease)). It is most likely that 1.1.1 was too forgiving, and that better

ext3-0.0.5c released
Hi all, ext3-0.0.5c is now up at: ftp.uk.linux.org:/pub/linux/sct/fs/jfs/ and ftp.*.kernel.org:/pub/linux/kernel/people/sct/ext3/ The most important part of this release is the e2fsprogs: e2fsck now supports the journal changes for metadata-only journaling. Ted, I've changed around the use of jfs* include files in e2fsprogs quite heavily here. In each build directory --- the lib/ext2fs

Perhaps trivial problem but important to me
I have two computers: CentOS 7 (KDE 4) and CentOS 8 (KDE 5). I'm also an avid Doom player (yeah, I'm an old geezer). On C7 using prboom v 2.5.0 and a graphical interface I wrote to select a wad file to play without using the command line, everything works fine. On C8, using the same prboom 2.5.0, graphical interface, and the same SDL libraries, the video is "jerky" - every 2
