Samba and DOS
Greetings,
Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am
attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I
need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP
stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about?
Thank You.

Don't get access from Windows Mobile 2003 to Samba 3.0.2a
Hi!
I tried accessing a Samba server 3.0.2a from a PDA (Dell Axim X5) with
Windows Mobile 2003. In the menu "Open" I typed "\\stormbringer" and and got
this error message:

one of its components).
Make sure the path and file
name are correct and all
required libraries are
available.
Further I tried accessing the same Samba server from a

2.0.5a on AIX 4.3.2, smbclient failures.
Dear All,
We have successfully run 1.9.18p2 on our AIX 3.2.5 servers since 1.9.18p2
was released, with heavy access for printing and file sharing from users and
NT servers.
We are currently in the process of upgrading to AIX 4.3.2 (now completed)
and have been trying to implement 2.0.5a. I have used the AIX binary install
which all worked. We are using WINS/DNS/DHCP running on the NT servers

Start smbd and nmbd daemons on other HP Unix (version 10.20) Server
Hi everyone,
I would like to know if it's possible to start the smbd/nmbd daemons from an other HP Unix server. The installation of Samba has been made on a RAID mounted on an other Unix server (the main one).
We want to do that because whe need to reduce the work of the main server.
Thanks

Samba 2.0.5a upgrade
All,
I've just upgraded from 2.0.4 to 2.0.5a on my Sparc 20 (Solaris 2.5.1).
I've kept the same configurations but I can no longer map drives from my
Windows machines (NT, Win95). smbd exits on error:

Problems with 1.9.18p8
Having tried all the hints in DIAGNOSIS.txt, and having no success, and
being unable to decrypt the error codes (does anyone have a list of these?) I
send this to you all in the hope you can figure it out.
FYI: I'm running 1.9.18p8, upgraded from 1.9.16p9. I got the exact same
errors on both versions. I'm running debug level 5 to try and find some
clue to the problem. I did have samba

Determinant of umask for sieve_pipe_bin_dir scripts?
Hi,
What determines the umask of sieve_pipe_bin_dir scripts ?
The results from my script are always being set to 0600.
My script is simple and shown below, even if I adjust the right line to add " && chmod 644", the actual resulting file still remains at 0600 ?!?
#!/bin/bash

I can see my Linux box in Network Neighborhood on my Windows NT boxes. I
can open the Linux box and see the top level shares available. When I
try to open a share I see one or two anonymous folders.

smbpasswd and nmbd don't call my password program

touched (as per ls -lu /usr/bin/yppasswd).
Furthermore, running smbd with -d 100 didn't seem to show

Remote machines seen as UNKNOWN
Hello,
I have two machines (Samba under Linux, and Win98) that try to connect
to another samba machine. They are all two seen as UNKNOWN
machines. With the Linux one, I am correctly authenticated, but with
the Win98, Connections are rejected.
Here is a level 3 log file (It's a bit long, sorry). As you can see,
there is an ERRNO = Connection reset by peer
Thanks.
