Samba and DOS
Greetings,
Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am
attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I
need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP
stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about?
Thank You.

quota on ext3 fs
hi everyone,
i installed the ext3 fs on a test machine and tried to use quota on the
ext3 filesystem. When i use the command quotaon /dev/hdb2 (the partition
with the ext3 fs) i get the message:
quotaon: using /home/quota.user on /dev/hdb2: Invalid argument.
I created the quota.user and quota.group files and set the permissions
to 600.
I use quota-2.oopre3-7a, e2fsprogs-1.20-0ext3, kernel 2.2.18

Best practice, dev/test/staging/production environments
I like the Stanford Best Practices guide for puppet. One thing I didn''t
see it address was handling of separate environments, for example Dev,
Test, Staging, Production.
My thoughts on this so far, are:
brainstorm #1) Handle environment differences with metadata:
node devProductName01 {
$env = "dev"
include ProductName-webserver
}
node testProductName01 {

Maildircrypt
Hi guys, I was just wondering if this idea makes sense overall or if
there are major impediments (indexing performance ?):

Brainstorm: Running Asterisk as cool as possible - AKA solid state.
I would like to ask what people think the best way would be to build a
low-power consumption, passively-cooled system.
For example, one could use a fanless-Eden (mini-ITX/EPIA) system, but the
loss of FPU power would limit performance. The obvious choice for FPU
work are the Intels and AMDs, nut they're all power-hungry radiators.
Is there something that can offer the quiet, power-savings of

SNOM 360 and parking
OK, last showstopper that I just can't puzzle my way through - parking
calls with the snom phones. I get the two phones connected, I hit
transfer on one, the other phone goes to MOH and the first phone gives
me DT, so I dial 700 and hit the OK button. Call transferred, the SNOM
hangs up before I have a chance to hear which extension it parked to.
Is there a way to make the SNOM phones

mapstraction as org for GSOC?
Google Summer of Code has announced the opening of applications for
Mentor organizations. Pamela Fox mentioned awhile ago that Mapstraction
may be a good fit.

I would like to brainstorm if we have identifiable projects, and
preferably even interested students, that would like to work together on
putting in some applications. A couple of initial possibilities:

Extracting SQL and Rebuilding from SQL?
Hello-
With a database filled with several customers'' datasets, I thought it
would be a nice feature of my app''s backend interface to be able to
extract (and optionally delete) the data from a single customer. It
would then also be nice to rebuild that data from the stored info.
What''s a good way to do this efficiently?

nosql (it was mogilefs)
Yes,
I?ve read these doc. I was just considering if someone had any experience with Mogile in email environment.
Well, actually I?m trying to figure out if one of those nosql systems can store and scale email systems (ie, mailboxes - instead of maildir). I know mysql is always quoted as an option and discussed sometimes in the list. I think it?s an unnecessary overhead and bottleneck.

PDC without profiles?
Hi --
I'd like to try running Samba as a PDC simply for authentication -- that
is without doing any profile management, i.e. I'd like Windows to not
write anything to the network after logout. Is this possible with Samba?
I'm not seeing an obvious answer to this. Thanks!

Force puppet client reload?
Without changing the normal 30 minutes timer, I was wondering if there
was a way to have a puppet MASTER force a client to reload somehow?
Here is why - I am giving my help desk access to a webpage on a puppet
Master. It will allow them to edit a single file. I need that file to
update to the specific client as soon as it is saved. Because of
security issues, I can''t put the page on the

namespaces/virtual folder & archiving
Hi,
I was following the earlier namespaces discussion and I would like to
repost a doubt. I need to have some kind of archiving, it means, store old
messages into a cheap storage. But I couldn?t think any other solution
than symlinks.
Then, I thought about store 'Sent Items' (as having old messages and less
acessed). But I also needed to do with nfs and symlinks. So, it comes the

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] -emit-bitcode-version
Hello,
We have a tool which reads in bitcode, processes it, and re-emits it. We use this tool as a flexible way to integrate our tool into the Xcode, Android NDK, Chromium, and Linux build process.
The problem we face is that bitcode changes, and when it does… future versions can read it, but past versions are left in the lurch. For instance LLVM 3.2svn can BitcodeReader from LLVM 3.1, but

Asterisk in the third world - Astricon 2010 keynote follow-up
Friends,
After listening to Mark Summer's keynote at Astricon (hopefully soon on the Astricon web site) I think we should come back to the discussion he started. Mark talked about using Open Source in general and Asterisk in particular in third world projects as well as in emergencies in other countries. He and Inveneo help groups of people to get a better understanding of how to build

Use of SAMBA with Rational Clearcase
Is there anyone out there successfully using Rational Clearcase with SAMBA?
Was there any special changes you had to make to get it to work? We were
told by Rational specifically not to use SAMBA and wanted to get the other
side. TIA

3DsMax 9 issues.
Hello, I would like to brainstorm an issue that has not be solved for about a year.
Why am I here.
Well I have been asked by many others to try and get any version of 3DsMax working on wine, I have picked Max 9 32bit.
However the current release version from Autodesk is 3DsMax 2012
I currently use Ubuntu 10.10 and Wine version 1.3.37 and will stick with this release as I dislike unity.
