Recommended SAS or SAS RAID controllers for Xen on IBM xSeries 306m with PCI-X slot
Does anyone recommend any particular SAS controller, or should I use an
Ultra-320 SCSI controller instead?
My machine is an IBM xSeries 306m. It has a SAS controller provided on a
daughter card, but it''s not supported in the 2.6.16 kernel, so I''m
looking for a separate disk controller card that will work with my
existing SAS disks.

problem with netbios aliases (nmbd restart solves it)
Hi,
I'm running samba 2.0.5a under Solaris 2.7 and am seeing a problem
where the netbios alias for our print server sometimes becomes
unavailable. It is still visible in Network Neighbourhood, but
double-clicking comes back with "<blah> could not be found on the
network". However, I can connect to the machine OK, by
double-clicking on its real name, rather than its alias.

Problem with netbios aliases and security 'domain'
Hi!
I have the problem that a host can not with the 'netbios name' and the
'alias' in a domain.
Under samba 2.x it can be done without any problem.
My samba version is: 3.2.7
Netbios name: u10
Netbios aliases: u2
Host has only one IP. Security is 'domain'.
When I type: # net rpc join MEMBER -U Administrator -n u10
I can join the domain. Access to u10 is successful.

netbios aliases question (retry)
I didn't get any responses, can anyone at least tell me if this should
or should not work?
Samba 3.0.2a, two servers, each with a netbios name that matches their
hostname. The idea was to have two servers live all the time, with the
same printer drivers installed, and we could have the clients hitting
one or the other via a netbios alias.

XP Clients, Netbios aliases and msdfs
Greetings list,
I've looked high and low, and cannot find an instance of this
particular situation, and thought I might try leveraging the power of
the collective hive mind of the user community to solve this problem.
My setup is likely not at all common. I've created a bunch of
netbios aliases on a single linux box. Each alias has the same name as a
particular windows group, like hr

netbios aliases ?
hi all
I have a samba server acting as a domain member server providing
file/print services to our SME
As i want to provide users with a list of available printers for
installation, i need to give them a win32 shortcut to "\\samba-server\"
so they can see the available printers and install as required BUT...
doing so will also show them all of the available shares... not a major

msdfs not working on netbios aliases?
I encountered strange behaviour of "msdfs" when using together
with "netbios aliases".
E.g I have in smb.conf:
[global]
netbios name = server
netbios aliases = server-oldname
....
host msdfs = Yes
[share1]
path = /var/samba/share1
[share2]
msdfs root = Yes
msdfs proxy = \penguin\share2
....
From a windows (XP) machine I can now see:
\\server\share1

Windows XP Pro SP2 and samba config for some NetBIOS aliases
Hi all,
I've got few NetBIOS aliases for samba server, one for each user's group:
group1svr, group2svr and so on.
Samba server is also domain master for my domain.
Linux version is SuSe Linux 8.2, samba version is 3..
At the end of samba.conf file I've put last line as follow:
include /etc/samba/server/%L/%U.conf.
I've created following directories in /etc/samba

VPN and NetBIOS aliases
Hi,I'm wondering if anyone has run into this but I found out that I can't use Window's VPN connection and logon to Samba using Aliases. I can log into the server using the server's main NetBIOS name but I can't use any of the aliases. Whilst inside the network the aliases work fine.Any ideas on how to get around this?# Samba config file created using SWAT

netbios aliases
Hello,
are there any known problems with netbios aliases? My test-setup
worked fine, but now, since I've changed the alias, it doesn't seem to
work anymore. Does it take some time to update??? I've read that
|setting smb-ports to 139 should help, but that doesn't seem to make any
difference...
Nice regards, bbb

Can't access by NetBIOS Aliases or IP Address
Hm.. standard troubleshooting may be
use smbclient -L on the samba server to list shares and make sure samba is
responding to request.
check the samba logs for info -- and if needed turn loglevel up in smb.conf
if this was a joined server prior to upgrade, you may need to rejoin it to
the domain

Netbios aliases
Hi,
We have been using for years the option "netbios aliases" with 9 aliases
(+ 1 main host).
Each one has it's own shares.
Since recently, we faced problems with some Windows 10 who fails to
connect to any of those hosts.
Windows XP, 7, Linux or MacOSX clients are fine.
We can fix Windows 10 clients by commenting the "smb ports = 139", but
with this configuration

[Curiosity] 'netbios aliases' works in AD mode?
As stated in subject.
I suppose in 'DC mode' no, but as DM i can define an alias for the
machine?
Looking at:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1703
seems 'yes' to me...
Thanks.

OK. Thanks.
Sorry again, but really i don't find examples for SPN definition. The
commandline:
samba-tool spn add host/vdmsv1.ad.fvg.lnf.it file.ad.fvg.lnf.it
is corect to define alias 'FILE' for domain
