Error messages 3.0.6pre1
I compiled 3.0.6pre1, including the crtimes and fileflags patches for
use on Intel OS X 10.5.6, as described by Mr. Bombich (thanks!) here:
<http://www.bombich.com/mactips/rsync.html>
I want to use 3.0.6 because it seems that this bug:
<https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5365>
has been resolved (yay!).

Binary logistic model using lrm function
Hello all,
Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong here?
I am trying to fit a binary logistic model using the lrm function in Design.
The dataset I am using has a dichotomous response variable, 'covered'
(1-yes, 0-no) with explanatory variables, 'nepall', 'title', 'abstract',
'series', and 'author1.'
I am running the following script and

Can't compile under RH 7.2
All --
Has anyone gotten samba to compile under RH 7.2? I tried:
2.2.2 NOPE
2.2.0 NOPE
2.0.0 NOPE
1.9.00 YES
CVS HEAD NOPE
In the cases of the 2.* versions (and CVS head) I ran ./configure
and make. In the case of 1.9.00, I edited the Makefile for a non-
shadow Linux host (and added -lcrypt).
I'm attaching a typescript file of my latest attempt at

Repeated measures in Classification and Regresssion Trees
Dear R members,
I have been trying to find out whether one can use multivariate
regression trees (for example mvpart) to analyze repeated measures data.
As a non-parametric technique, CART is insensitive to most of the
assumptions of parametric regression, but repeated measures data raises
the issue of the independence of several data points measured on the
same subject, or from the same plot

print method like print.anova()
I have a print method for a set of statistical tests, vcdExtra::CMHtest,
for which I'd like to
have more sensible printing of pvalues, as in print.anova().
[Testing this requires the latest version of vcdExtra, from R-Forge
**|install.packages("vcdExtra", repos="http://R-Forge.R-project.org")|**

With my current print method, I get results like this, but all Prob

Macs deleting files off RHEL8 server
Okay, so the server was changed to case insensitive yesterday morning.
Today, I just watched an instance where files disappeared in real time.
User print33 was moving/deleting files from a job on the server.
It got hung up, the server was showing no folders, so we force quit the
Finder. The server share unmounted, then we remounted it.
Before the hang up there were 239 folders on the server.

Macs deleting files off RHEL8 server
Thanks for this info! I appreciate it. AFAIK, I've never changed any
settings on the Macs re: case sensitivity, so they should be insensitive.
Is there a way I can check this?
Kind regards,

Python wrappers for libflac
Hi all,
I've written some python wrappers for parts of libflac, namely the file
encoder, file decoder and metadata interfaces. The wrappers were built
with the help of "swig".
The interface is supposed to be very close to the C API, but OO-ised
(like the C++ API) and python-ised. It has some funky features like
being able to write your callbacks for encoding/decoding in python and

Access to string file owner names
All --
I'd like to be able to do an 'ls -l' in smbclient and have the user
name show up as it is on the server, but when I look through the code
it looks like libsmbclient is already doing mapping to *nix-style
stat structures, which use uid_ts (ints). I've been rooting around in
the code a bit trying to understand enough to see if I could get
string-oriented owner info, but I

AIC in bestglm, glm, and lm - why do they differ?
I recently found the "bestglm" package while trolling CRAN for a function to
save some keystrokes with simple (k<10) nested models. I am interested in
using the best of several nested linear models which I have explored using
lm(), glm() and now bestglm(). When I compare the AIC values for the 'best'
candidate model I get the same AIC values with lm() and glm() but a

Samba Share out of space
I seem to have a problem in a folder within a samba share. For some odd
reason it's ran out of space in the folder. But other folders within the
share aren't out of room. Can someone please help!

Macs deleting files off RHEL8 server
Thanks for the confirmation, Roland. I'll have those looked at.
I've gotten some info that because the server is case sensitive, it could
be interfering with Apple's SMB protocol. Any thoughts on that? It is
something I'll look into.
Kind regards,

You have to be really careful with shares and macs.
Since each mac can be set to either be case sensitive or not.
It is possible for macs to throw all sorts of errors, if they are operating on mixed case systems.
If the mac assumes it is case sensitive and it is not , it can either delete files or cause file name clashes that throw errors.

Rails and Partials
Excuse my ignorance on partials but.....
I am trying to use partials to create a uniform display box built with
html tables. The only way I have thought about accomplishing this is to
create two partials:
_start_box.erb

<table id="box" width="<%= width %>"><tr><th><%= h(label_text)
%></th></tr><tr><td>

Permutation of a distance matrix
Hi there,
I would like to find a more efficient way of permuting the rows and columns of a symmetrical matrix that represents ecological or actual distances between objects in space. The permutation is of the type used in a Mantel test.
Specifically, the permutation has to accomplish something like this:
Original matrix addresses:
a11 a12 a13
a21 a22 a23
a31 a32 a33

These are a combination of "temp" and "real" files. The user is
deleting/moving PDFs, InDesign and image files. I'm presuming hidden files
are also getting deleted when the real files are.
The filesystem has been solid (XFS) up until the switch to SMB.
