AW: RH 6.1 samba 2.0.7pre3 BUG!
samba does the SMB(!) authentication against machine "a" but you MUST have equal users on ALL machines. How else should samba create files on the unix file system if there is no UNIX user to deal with? It is not a problem of samba, it's a "problem" of unix. The only trick to do this would be to create a dummy unix user and do a "force user" to this dummy on every

Samba Server and 3 W98 workgroups
Hello, In my network I have a Samba Server (Domain=DN) and 3 Windows 98 WorkGroups (Net0, Net1, Net2). And my problem is: I want to avoid same users to access the workgroup Net0 (Data and Applications), and others users to the Net1. The Net2 is public for all users. It's possible to do it with a Linux Samba Server? How can I do it? Tia, Sociedade Torreense de Inform?tica, Lda. Av.

Browsing from NT 4.0
Hi James, One of the things that NT does different from WIN9x is that it attempts to 'browse' using a null session. This typically means that SAMBA is going to try to make the attachement for the 'null' username as SAMBA's guest account (by default 'nobody'). On a lot of HP systems the 'nobody' /etc/passwd entry is set as uid -2 and gid -2. These uid/gid

DNS name and netbios name differ
Hi All, I'm having some problems getting Win'9X to connect to an NT share when the netbios name for the NT server is different from the DNS name, and the win'9x machine is using the DNS name. NT workstation is happy with doing this, but '9X isn't. The strange thing is that it works fine when '9X connects to a samba server that is similarly configured. If I understood

SAMBA digest 1850 (DNS name and netbios name differ)
The default setting for Win95 are to do DNS before WINS. You can try to change this order to see if this fixes the problem. I clipped the following from the Technet article - Q139270. It would be easier to disable DNS on a Win95 client to see if the name resolution order is causing your problem; then do all this happy stuff... ------------------------------------ cut

Hi! I have MS domain, based on MS Windows 2000 Server. I successfully joined my samba box (Linux 2.5.53, Samba 2.2.4) to domain via smbpasswd -j DOMAIN -r DC -Uuser%pwd. So when I try to open Samba box via network neighbornhood I got pop-up window with inputs of username and password, I tape valid values and got this popup again. In samba log I see this: [2003/02/12 09:27:58, 0]

2.0.7pre2: multihomed_register_name error
rh61, 2.2.14. The problem is in 2.0.6 also. 1st samba is wins server. 2nd samba uses the 1st samba as wins server. All is ok, but if I use interfaces = eth0 127.0.0.1 bind interfaces only = yes (is there anything wrong in the above lines?) in the 2nd samba, then I get the following in the log.nmb of the 2nd samba: [2000/03/29 15:45:30, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(743) Netbios nameserver version

INQUIRY, was: RE: smbpasswd not finding smbpasswd file
I have difficulties. I'm running samba-2.1-19991203.tar.gz, and get the following error: Domain password server not available. Can't setup password database vectors. Sander -- thanks. This is an excellent troubleshooting move. Once we can find people who do and don't have problems, we can exploit the differences. Thanks Steve Litt At 01:53 AM 12/08/1999 +0100, S. Striker wrote:

Domain logons working
I finally got the Domain logons working. I've even got a logon script happening. It's a pretty simple one: net use n: \\server\share (I've tried to start out slow) I have a x86 RH61 with 2.06. I'm working up towards roaming profiles. I have a few questions? Before I added the "logon drive = M:", it kept putting the home directory in Z: Does adding the [homes]

SUM: After upgrade to 2.0.6, Win98 users can't connect to Samba shares
Hi everybody - Yesterday, I said that my Windows 98 & 95 computers couldn't connect to my Samba shares after upgrading from version 1.9.16p9 to 2.0.6, while my NT 4.0 (SP4 & SP6) computers could, even though I had the same user names & passwords on all the machines (UNIX, Win'9x, NT). I re-read the "What's New in Samba 2.0.6" document this morning, and found

Non-english fonts in plots
Hello to all I've got a question concerning use of fonts while making plots in R. I wanted to know if it is possible for me to use polish letters in functions like text() title() etc. Looked up characters, which can be obtained via Hershey(), but there are none of them. I made plots using postscript(), pdf() or png() device to export them to MSWord or LaTeX. Windows ANSI CE #dec codes of
