Print on HP deskjet via Samba 3
Hi list, I have troubles with printing on a HP Deskjet 1220C (connected on network through jet direct device). I have a print server, which use LPRng and allow clients to print on this 1220c printer as well as laserjet printers. If client is Linux, I can print on all printers. So I guess my LPRng config is good. Another server runs Samba 3. This server's printcap redirect jobs to my

Net use doesn't
Hi, I have a situation that causing premature gray. All printers are connected to HP JetDirects. A test print from Linux prints. Sometimes a test print from Win98 works, usually it gets a spool32 error and I have to reboot the workstation. No NT machine can print. There are NT 4 and Win2K machines. When I setup a printer, it doesn't configure a port. In Win98, I can add a port in printer

Guest access under Win XP plus printing
Hi, I had Samba all working, but then I upgraded to samba 2.2.1a and windows from 98 to XP. Printing no longer works, and I don't think guest access works properly either. Probably for the same reason. In windows it appears that connection to the printer is ok, but when you print it goes in the windows print queue and never gets to the linux box. In printer setup it says lp on

troubles printing from windows98 to a samba printer
Hello I have this problem with printing to a HP Laser Jet 4L set up on my linux box which is the local samba server for the intranet. I can only print as root or as a user admin user = thatuser. I need to be able to set a password for the printer and only those users to use the printer who know the password. Or a similar solution. As ordinary user Windows98 says:

spauratic loss of machines.
Hello, I've got a samba/win98 problem. This occurs with samba 2.05a and slackware linux 7.0 and freebsd 3.4-release and samba 2.06. I've got two machines, one a pure 98 machine, the other split 50-50 linux and freebsd. All is looking well, samba is my local master, will always win elections etc. Both machines show up and all is good until I restart samba. At that point no matter which

Slow write access with Samba 3.0.10-Debian
Hi! I've got a problem with write access on samba fileshares mounted via fstab on two Debian Sarge servers. These servers are behind firewalls and can only access each other, so security is not an issue. They are configured as follows: I'll use placeholders for IP-adresses, usernames, passwords etc. just out of paranoia, I do know, that these IPs do not make sense ;) the servers are

Uncooperative Dos Share
I have a server running Red Hat Linux 5.2 with samba 1.9.18 installed (at least that's the rpm package). The server itself is mounting and sharing two SCSI cdrom drives - the kind that are capable of changing up to six cdroms each. The OS mounts the drives correctly. I can see the files. I have shared the drive contents and can map access to them over a Win95 network. I have set the

AW: Slow write access with Samba 3.0.10-Debian
By the way, the wait-period before the write access is "committed" or whatever is always precisely 30 seconds, so I believe, that there may be some timeout issue before samba is actually doing what it's supposed to do. Has anybody got an idea? > -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- > Von: samba-bounces+markus.wollny=computec.de@lists.samba.org >

Unable to print correctly html on Windows Printer (SMB) Share
Hi All, After connecting a HP DeskJet 950C printer to my NT Server and configuring it as a share printer, I used samba and printconf to connect to it. I setup the printer in printconf as a Samba (SMB) Printer/Windows Printer (SMB) Share After restarting the lpd daemon, I can print successfully the ASCII test page and other linux files, e.g. smb.conf, /etc/fstab, etc. My problem is that I am unable

error when trying to copy file from samba share to old Windows CE share
What i see with google and that error code is. Windows activation problems due to bad disk/bad sectors. File copy problems due to wrong rights. Virus/mailware activity. And what happens if you change your share to : [fileshare] comment = Public Share path = /share/fileshare public = no writable = yes printable = no A few thing you can check/try. Greetz, Louis

Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well the weekend didn't bring any solutions to this unhappy camper. I spent most of my time trying to narrow down the problem again. I started out by installing a quick copy of ZipSlack on the Win98SE machine to determine once and for all if the problem was a Windows problem or not. Well, I tried a simple FTP from the ZipSlack to my Mandrake 8.0 server and it hung up like in Windows. So I

FW: Was: Win98SE and Samba 2.0.10 Problems
Well as a further to my last, I broke down and put a copy of Win98SE on a spare HDD in my Mandrake server box. First moment it was up and running, I tried to transfer the files between the two problem computers and BINGO! It worked. So sadly I must assume that the problem must lie on my Linux server :( As I have previously tried both Mandrake 8.0 and Redhat 7.1 and end up with the same transfer

Win98SE
Hello, Can I run Win98SE in Wine? I've an old game I'd like to run once more that *only* works with DirectX 6.0b and no other. Stupid, right? Wine is my last hope in playing that game... Samba 2.0.7 and Win98SE
I have been having an irritating problem with my home network. My network consists of 1 PC running Mandrake 8.0 as the file server with Samba 2.0.7, three PCs running Win98SE and one PC running Win XP. I have had the network running for almost two years in various OS configurations and for the most part have had smooth operations. However, my problem comes when I try and copy, move, or save any

SMB3.0 with XP Home and Win98SE clients. XP no go, what should I do?
I want to have SMB server to authenticate all my users. Problem is that I have 8 Win98SE workstations and 2 XP Home laptops. I know XP Home won't do domain log-ons. What are my options (I would realy hate giving M$ more money by upgrading laptops to PRO)? How can I do user based log-ins in that kind of environment? Thanks, Apollo

Help with Domain login Win98se and Samba 2.2.4
I am not new to samba, but i have come across a problem that has me stumped. This may not have anything to do with samba, and i am fairly certain it does not... however... please bear with me and offer any suggestions you may have as it does have to do with interoperability between MS and samba. I have a win98se freshly rebuilt workstation and a RedHat 7.2 machine with samba 2.2.4 (rpm from

Samba PDC + Win98se Printing Problem
Hi, I have a Samba PDC (2.2.7) and a win98se workstation using user-level access control. The win98 pc has 2 shares, a directory and a printer. The shares on the workstation are setup with full control for "Domain Users". I can list the shares (smbclient -L //pcname) and can connect to the shared directory, list files, etc. However if I try to connect to the printer, I get this error
