Error when Synchronising
I'm trying ot get Windows 2K off line folders to work but it fails when
writing a file back to the Samba share reporting that access is denied on
the share. But I can copy and replace the file manually without a proplem.
Running Samba 2.2.7-security-rollup-fix on Redhat 8 (upto date)
Samba Logfile for Machine account is below.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Henrique are user, this user is in the list of administrators of the samba, but he is not administrator of the PDC (windows 2003).
It looks at the parameters below of smb.conf:

roaming profile fails with NT_STATUS_BUFFER_TOO_SMALL
i'm running (well trying to run) samba3a20-4 from debian
with sam backend = ldapsam_nua:ldap://localhost/
when i try to log in I get a message saying that the roaming profile has
the wrong permissions. There is no profile in place for this user... it
should be created from the netlogon share (which was copied to netlogon

Directory perms not visible from Properties|Security on clients
Samba 3.0.7, XP Pro SP1 clients
When I view the "Properties|Security" tab on a folder from my XP SP1
clients, the checkboxes indicating the various permission settings are
all empty.
The share is functioning fine otherwise, permissions are OK when
inspected from the Unix side.
Does anyone know a work around (or fix!)?

newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. Neighborhood, but when I double-click to login, the login window give the following message:
Incorrect password or unknown username for \\SERVERNAME
Entering a username and password (from /etc/passwd) returns:

I saw a post similar to this suggesting that it was a NIC problem and

client. any suggestions?

saving from word & excel
hi,
we're using a samba-server over DSL using openVPN and the speed is very
good at browsing directories and quite OK at loading/saving files except
for word & excel where it takes about 20-30 seconds to save even a small
file.
which is no wonder because the following happens in log.smbd when i click
"save" in word, it obviously checks for a bazillion tmp- and lockfiles (

rsync parameters errors
In my new bash script, I'm doing what I think is a very simple rsync
command the way I'm used to doing it. I just do a lot of setup and
checking before I get to it.
When I run it, it gets very unhappy with me. It's probably something
very simple.
I need to build the rsync command in a string so that some things can go
away - like if my variables DRY_RUN and DELETE are undefined,

Online backup of domain fails

Then we grep for the message with "call_nt_transact_query_security_desc"

Online backup of domain fails
Oh sorry, I forgot that the offline option isn't in 4.9. It will be in
4.10 (release candidate should be available next week some time).
However, you have to run the offline command locally on the DC, and you
probably don't want to install a rc build on a production DC.
So when I set the DC's smb.conf debug level to 3, I see smbd logs like
the following when doing the sysvol portion

Domain doesnt work anymore
Hello,
I have a redhat 9 system with samba 2.2.8 as PDC, this worked fine for
almost a year. Since yesterday it is not possible to log on from the win2k
workstations with the error message that the given username/password is
wrong.
With the same username/password it possible to connect to the server from
win 98 machines.
I attached the log entries of smbd and nmbd direct after the unsuccsessfull

use spnego question - samba 47 to samba48 migration
Hi Rowland,
Thanks Much for the help, as usual!
About Kerberos: Yes, I have implemented Kerberos and NTLM. I need both working.
About winbindd_privileged: Not sure what you mean with " I think you might want to check that again, the 'winbindd_privileged' dir went away quite some time ago."
Shouldn't that folder be there anymore? Everytime I install Samba47 or 48 it creates

Odd behavior w/ read raw and write raw under NT1
A coworker and I have been doing some performance tuning with Samba 20b4
under Linux 2.0.36 (RedHat 5.2 distribution) on a 100-T network. The
protocol is NT1. Two settings are tweaked in particular, "read raw" and
"write raw". When both are yes, reading a large file results in 6M/s, but
writing is only 2M/s, which is far below writing to an NT server (6M/s).

Samba vs Microsoft Logon Protocols
Hello,
I am trying to figure out how the different values for "max
protocol" and "min protocol" (as seen in the smb.conf man page under the
"max protocol" section) correlate to the Microsoft jargon for the
different logon protocols. Here is what I've determined. Could some
please verify this for me?

Re: Programming ...
Many thanks to the moderator who pointed out errors and suggested the
correct information on this post. Over half the ideas are due to him. ;)
Don't forget this is about writing your own daemon or TCP program. Some
of the ideas here will not happen with today's software that has been
hardened. It is presented to prevent your software from being taken
advantage of.

Problem with XP after upgrade from 2.2 -> 3.0
Hello All,
About 2 weeks ago I upgraded from debian woody to sarge. This
included an upgrade from Samba2.2 -> Samba3.0. However since the
upgrade I have problems using my Samba server from my XP (home) Laptop.
The symptoms are basically "explorer" freezeing on most network
browseing type actions. Or if I open a file (eg a movie). I'm pretty
confident that I don't have a

From 3.0.11 to up-to-date versions protocol problem
Hi.
We have been using samba 3.0.11 for years and now we need to add some win7
machines to our domain.
So I test up-to-date Samba versions (3.6.19, 4.1.0 compiled, and Centos
today "native" binary package 3.6.something) and with all of them I run
into the same problem.
I get stuck with protocols when checking XP machines (which works like a
charm in 3.0.11 domain)
When max protocol is
