newbie desperate for help
I just installed Samba for the first time. Installed and setup like a dream. Unfortunately, I can't login to save my life. The server appears in the Net. Neighborhood, but when I double-click to login, the login window give the following message: Incorrect password or unknown username for \\SERVERNAME Entering a username and password (from /etc/passwd) returns: \\SERVERNAME is not

Windows 2000 Terminal Server and SAMBA
Hi, We a re planning to migrate from the Windows NT 4.0 Terminal Server to the Windows 2000 version sometime within the next few weeks. From the newsgroups and have gathered that the MULIPLEUSERSONCONNECTION registry option that allowed each connection from the Terminal Server to start a separate smb process has been disabled in the 2000 version. Is there any work arounds that can be done in

Passwords issues with samba 2.0.6
In my pursuit of integrating samba password authentication with our own stuff, I've been looking at ways on synchronizing the two. And here are the two problems for which I hope to get either solution: a) smbpasswd will not pass down spaces to whatever is called for synchronization. Barely looking at the synchronization routine, it scans as a string, which would skip anything after a space.

vpimd, a personal information server
This isn''t even close to ready for release, but in case anybody is interested, has feedback, finds it useful as is, or even wants to collaborate... I''ve been working on a "personal information server", something of a protocol multiplexer. Right now it serves calendar feeds for: - a local calendar folder (iCal 1.x''s Library/Calendars) - rss for local todos

Bonding performance question
I have a Dell server with four bonded, gigabit interfaces. Bonding mode is 802.3ad, xmit_hash_policy=layer3+4. When testing this setup with iperf, I never get more than a total of about 3Gbps throughput. Is there anything to tweak to get better throughput? Or am I running into other limits (e.g. was reading about tcp retransmit limits for mode 0). The iperf test was run with iperf -s on the

newbie question on file perms
Hi, Hope this question isn't too stupid, or addressed to the wrong crowd.... Am running samba-1.9.16p2 and am having troubles getting the "create mode" or "create mask" designators in the smb.conf file to be honored. All files created on the pc's are coming out 740. Would like them to be 755. Am I missing something obvious? Servers are solaris 2.5.1 tia, -jeff

Internal error with domain login
Hiya everyone. I guess this isn't something that causes much concern, since it doesn't happen very often. When I try to log in to a domain as a user that has an invalidated password (32 Xs) Samba gets an internal error. I haven't really had a hard look at why it might be doing that as yet, but I thought I'd make you aware of the problem and ask if anyone has had similar

strange DOS client behaviour
Hiya Everyone I'm having a lot of trouble with the MS TCPIP client for DOS and Samba (all versions) running on Linux v2.1.9[789]. I think this is more of a kernel problem than a Samba problem, but better to cover all bases. When running any kernel up to 2.1.85, the DOS client runs at a sensible speed reading off a Samba shared drive, however from 2.1.97 onwards (I didn't run anything in

Samba 1.9.18p7 Password Lock Problem on AIX 4.1.4.0
I've been running SAMBA 1.9.14 and 1.9.17p4 for successfully for some time. Recently I thought it would be useful to update to the latest SAMBA version 1.9.18p7. This is the first time we are using Samba with the built-in DES. Here is our configuration: Machines: IBM RS/6000 AIX 4.1.4.0 or AIX 4.2.1.0 Compiler: xlC 3.1.4.0 My smb.conf file: [global] printing = aix print command

locking for multiple samba servers sharing same NFS filesystems
Is there any support for file locking in a case where multiple Samba servers are set up with shares for the same NFS mounted filesystem? I don't know how the STATUS..LCK file is used, but for instance, could that file be shared between the multiple Samba servers via and NFS mount? Thanks! -- --------------------------------------------------------------------- Jay D. Anderson

Problem with AIX 4.1.5 and Samba 1.9.18p2
I require urgent assistance on a problem I am having with Samba 1.9.18 on AIX 4.1.5. It seems that upon make install the /usr/local/samba/var/locks directory is not created and upon setting up inetd.conf and executing a kill -1 {pid of inetd} the locks directory still does not exist, no log files are created and STATUS..LCK is not created. I execute start -->run --->\\{system name} I get
