After lots of testing, I believe that I have discovered my problem. I am trying to use rsync to synchronise a Red Hat 7.2 Server and a RedHat 7.3 Server and they have different versions of rsync on them. We're using quite successfully a samba 4.1 AD setup authenticating user. We have on an unregular basis mails that can't be delivered because dovecot-pam fails to verify the credentials. I've recently connected a Samba server to our domain (ourdomain.dom) and configured it to send authentication requests to AD. I can successfully authenticate ourdomain.com users from the Samba server. ourdomain.com has a trust with a sister company (theirdomain.com).
