Working Passwd Chat for Unix Password Sync on Redhat 6.1
I have been trying to get the password sync working for Redhat 6.1 (samba 2.05a rpm). I got the PDC working this morning, so I'm happy. The FAQ section on the samba site was very helpful. The password sync was the only sticking point. The default passwd chat script didn't work well passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n *ReType*new*UNIX*password* %n\n *passw

Netscape Profiles
There was a posting on Netscape Profiles mapped to network drives that I was hoping someone could help me with. Other than setting the key for password encryption, I've never messed with the NT registry keys. I see this folder: \Registry\Machine\SOFTWARE\Netscape\Netscape Navigator\Users = But making this part, I could use some help: CurrentUser = Default

logon script with Win95
I've been having some trouble loggin on to the home share on my Win95 boxes. I've checked the archive, and I've seen this posted before, but no solution posted. My smb.conf maps home directories correctly with NT logons, but not with Win95 PCs. It maps the profiles directory instead of the home directory. If someone could take a quick look at my smb.conf and let me know what I hosed

Novell client caused Domain Logons to crash NT
I am trying to get domains logons going for and NT network. Samba is running fine, and the NT station I have started with joined the domain without any issues - except of course that I can't log on to the server. When I change the logons to the domain rather that the workstation in the IntranetWare logon client, it crashes the NT box (blue screen, winlogon.exe fatal error, etc.). Has anyone

starting smb services at bootup on x86 RH6.1
I am running RH6.1 on an x86 with 2.0.6 installed with an RPM. I am confused as to getting smb to start at bootup. It works fine if I start it manually (/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start). I swear, the 5.2 installation had smb start at bootup, but I can't find the difference between the two. Is the answer 1 - edit the /etc/inetd.conf file (swat needed a line uncommented) 2 - edit the

WINS not caching second Samba Server
Background: I have 2 SMB Servers; one is configured to be the Preferred Master (fserver), the other (upstairs) is configured to just share some files. I want it to connect and update the WINS configuration on the Preferred Master. Configuration files for both servers are attached. Also worth mentioning that both the 'fserver' and 'upstairs' reside on the same network. Some

Cannot access Windows 10 printer - but can access all other parts of teh server (disks, folders etc)
Hi, I am very new to mailing lists so please excuse any mistakes I make regarding ettiquete etc. On a home network (Windows/Apple/Lunux) everybody has co-operated happily. I recently swapped my Linux system from Mint (Mate) to Debian (KDE) Buster. I can no longer access the Windows machine's printer form Debian. I have tried many things and done a great deal of googling but cannot seem to

extended error
Hi all, This is happening on a Samba 3.0.1 PDC-controlled domain, so I'm not sure if the issue is Samba-related. If not, perhaps somebody can point me in the right direction. One of my users has a printer connected to his Win2k PC (name UPSTAIRS-SMALL). Printing to it from another (WinXP) workstation fails miserably. I tried to go back to first principles and go Start->Run

The domain logon problem!
Hello! I used SAMBA for more than 4 years (on many different paltforms). I have problem with domain logons. The problem is: 1. On my network is one logon server (SAMBA 2.0.6 RH61) 2. I have more that +350 PC and +3500 users 3. domain logons works (they are correctly setup - on the same configuration I work in different network - no problem) 4. Problem is in them that sometimes the main SMBD

Samba after upgrade+migration, Win7 workstation trusts lost
Hello list - >From my previous post: ++ First, trusts have been lost with the Win7 workstations in the domain. I would like to recover those trusts with no effect to the user accounts on the workstations. All workstations use local profiles. I can log on to the workstations using cached credentials, but any attempt to log on to them with Samba running on the server fails. So, I stop

2.0.7pre2: multihomed_register_name error
rh61, 2.2.14. The problem is in 2.0.6 also. 1st samba is wins server. 2nd samba uses the 1st samba as wins server. All is ok, but if I use interfaces = eth0 127.0.0.1 bind interfaces only = yes (is there anything wrong in the above lines?) in the 2nd samba, then I get the following in the log.nmb of the 2nd samba: [2000/03/29 15:45:30, 1] nmbd/nmbd.c:main(743) Netbios nameserver version

INQUIRY, was: RE: smbpasswd not finding smbpasswd file
I have difficulties. I'm running samba-2.1-19991203.tar.gz, and get the following error: Domain password server not available. Can't setup password database vectors. Sander -- thanks. This is an excellent troubleshooting move. Once we can find people who do and don't have problems, we can exploit the differences. Thanks Steve Litt At 01:53 AM 12/08/1999 +0100, S. Striker wrote:

internet wireless network requirements
I currently am using CentOS 4.4 desktop computer. What would I need to recieve an internet signal from a wireless router that is connected to an Apple computer that is located upstairs? I am in the basement less than 150 feet from the Apple computer. I do not have wireless card in the CentOS desktop computer and am looking for a card to install to accomplish this. -- Richard Miles Federal Way

openssh wish list for 2.6.*
Hi, something that I'd like to see for the next major release is "build OpenSSH without installing zlib and openssl". That is, I have a source tree with the following subdirectories: .../src/zlib-1.1.3/ /openssl-0.9.6/ /openssh_cvs/ and want "configure", run from openssh_cvs, to be able to find the zlib and openssl trees in the directory

Extension 'hint' info please?
I have a Polycom 500 and would love one of the line-appearance keys to show me if a certain person/people are on the phone upstairs. This 'hint' priority seems to have little-to-no documentation. So, if anyone out there has a clue about this, here are a couple of questions: Can you 'hint' Zap and IAX2 extensions? Can you concatenate extensions together? (i.e. exten =>

SellVOIP
I was quite surprised to find a message in my in box from SellVOIP a day or two ago. It indicated I was running out of credit which was a surprise as I thought they'd gone under a large number of months back. So I ran upstairs, added their entry back to sip.conf, uncommented a couple of lines in extensions.conf and I'm again using sellvoip to make outgoing calls. The reason I was
