SAMBA printing Win98 -> Redhat printer server
I'm having problem with printing from win98 to my printer which is connected to my Red Hat machine. I can see lp from Network Neighbourhood and printer is set up as \\REDHATMACHINE\lp however nothing would come out of the printer. Windows doesn't give any error message. My Red Hat machine prints fine however. I've included a portion of my smb.conf below. [global] printcap name =

Printing from Linux to Win98
I have a printer - an HP 1120c - connected to my wife's Win98 machine. Occasionally I would like to print to that printer instead of the HP Laserjet 4+ connected to my Linux machine. Could someone explain a couple of things for me? 1. I am running Mandrake 6.0. When I start printtool, it complains that it does not believe Samba is installed. Why and how do I fix? 2. I ignore the message and

Hi folks, I got this in the client-logfiles on my samba 3.0.8 PDC after updating from 3.0.3 via 3.0.7 and I was not able to find a solution somewhere in the archives. assmat-pc (172.16.4.102) connect to service standard initially as user asssas (uid=3023, gid=3000) (pid 16207) [2004/11/11 21:52:39, 0] printing/printing_db.c:get_print_db_byname(40) PANIC: assert failed at

SAMBA rejecting passwords from Win98 clients - the fix
There have been several postings about this phenomenon and we too fell into it when we introduced Win98 clients onto the network. Somewhere on the web I found the answer: By default Win98 sends passwords to a server encrypted, and by default SAMBA compiles with encrypted passwords switched off. Therefore the password one types in from a Win98 client is received by SAMBA in an encrypted form.

No print to Samba (Linux) printer from Win98
I'm stuck. I have Samba running on my Red Hat 7.2 Linux box. I can mount by remote dirctory on the Linux box via Samba. But I can't print to the Linux printer. I have a Linux printer installed and I can print to it using lpr. I have a printer configured in Samba and can see that from the Win98SE box. I've clicked on the Samba printer name and configured a Win98 printer.

Samba Printing to Win98
I am trying to allow printing from my linux box to my win98 box, to which my epson stylus printer is attached. It's just not happening...something tells me I'm flirting with a world of pain. I *can* print a file by going: smbclient //rory/EPSON translate print /etc/group but I cannot print from applications, nor can i use smbprint. I tried going: cat /etc/passwd | sh -x smbprint

No print to Samba (Linux) printer from Win98 - SOLVED.
I now have the deskjet print printing from my Win98 box. Something in the "hpdeskjet" entry was causing the error of "No machine name found" to appear when I tried to print from Win98. I fixed this by deleting the entry and re-creating it. I also specifically added allowed IP addresses instead of using "all" in the config file. I created a generic text printer

Samba 3.0.0: Problems with printing from win98 client
I'm having a problem when a user wants to print using a win98 client, the machine hangs up and i get a process that consumes nearly 90% of CPU time owned by the user who sends the job. I configuredd the smb.conf log level in 5 and i get this error: [2003/12/18 14:43:02, 3] smbd/lanman.c:api_reply(3542) Doing DosPrintQGetInfo [2003/12/18 14:43:02, 3]

Win98 Password Stumbling Block (Resolution)
For those of you that have had/are having problems getting Win 98 clients to correctly authenticate, I have identified a stumbling block which I had to deal with. Specifically, EnablePlainTextPassword *must* be a DWORD value. In following the instructions found here, http://us1.samba.org/listproc/samba/October1998/0321.html and on the Microtheft web site, I installed the ptxt_on.inf file from the

Windows 98 client cannot print via samba to PrintPro printer "exported" via Cups/PrintPro on PrintPro/Samba server. "Exporting" with Cups on server node allows print drivers to be downloaded to Windows clients from the server. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. logon home with ldap under win98
Hello, I hope this is the correct place for this mail... I have found that samba-2.2.3a (--with-ldapsam) gives the correct logon home for win2k, but not for win98. Obviously the two systems request the information in a different way. For win98 machines, in lanman.c, the information is taken only from smb.conf, and not from ldap (or other backends). I have attached a small patch that yields

Print to Win98, WinNT
Hi SMBers, I have a problem when trying print to Win98 via Samba: When I use print script ( included near at the end of SMB-HOWTO) to print a text file, I've got perfect printout, but when I use it to print some html page, I've got ASCII text of PS file that I want to print. If I print to file then use ghostview to view the file, so it seems to me that fine! What is wrong ? How can I fix

No printer status on Win2K client; Win98 and Linux clients are OK
My Win98(SE) Samba clients can query the Samba-exported printer status, but Win2K(SP3) clients cannot. Both clients can actually print documents. I am running Samba v2.2.3a on a Linux (Red Hat v7.3) system. This server makes 2 printers (via a LPR subsystem) and several shared directories available to our Linux, Win98 and Win2K (soon to be WinXP also) clients. From a Win98 client, print
