Authentication failure question.
I am running Samba 2.0.6 and have had this minor nagging problem since v1.9.X. Every time a Win95 client accesses a share on the Samba box I get the following message in syslog(/var/log/messages) Mar 9 11:03:46 kesrith PAM_pwdb[31604]: authentication failure; (uid=0) -> henris for samba service The client does get thru and is not denied access but the message does pop up. Samba and DOS
Greetings, Is there any way to get Samba to interact with MS-DOS? I am attempting to turn a Linux box into a VPN router for DOS clients. What I need to know is, can I get a CIFS protocol stack for MS-DOS, is a TCP/IP stack sufficient, are there any other solutions anyone knows about? Thank You. Configuration woes corrected
Well after I tried it the ./configure on all machines ( 4 total) I ran a few other compiles of other programs and figured out what was missing. Evidently the RH62 kernel "forgets" to put a symlink from /usr/src/linux/include/asm-i386 --> asm. I put that in and presto ./configure creates the Makefile and I am compiling 2.0.7Pre2 as we speak. What keyed this was trying a kernel compile,

starting smb services at bootup on x86 RH6.1
I am running RH6.1 on an x86 with 2.0.6 installed with an RPM. I am confused as to getting smb to start at bootup. It works fine if I start it manually (/etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start). I swear, the 5.2 installation had smb start at bootup, but I can't find the difference between the two. Is the answer 1 - edit the /etc/inetd.conf file (swat needed a line uncommented) 2 - edit the

Veto files option not working
We're getting very close now to having our RH6.1 server as we want it. Just a few anoying things left to iron out so we can trial it properly prior to going live. One of them is the "veto files" option in smb.conf. We want to stop users on Win95 clients from seeing (or deleting) the dot-files in their home shares. I've tried the above option, I've tried "hide dot

Hi People, Im using nmblookup from linux box to determine the IP of given of a machine from its netBIOSName. "nmblookup" seems to work find within a single subnet, but when looking up machines on different subnets I run into trouble. Can't get into share
It appears I have things set up. Linux (RH6.1) box is running samba and I'm trying to access shares from my 98 box. >From Network Neighborhood I can see the linux bo listed with the other LAN boxes. If I d-click to open the smb box, I DO get a folder withthe share name in explorer. Then, if I try to open that folder (share) it asks for a password for resource \\MACHINE\SHARE I enter my

Perhaps trivial problem but important to me
I have two computers: CentOS 7 (KDE 4) and CentOS 8 (KDE 5). I'm also an avid Doom player (yeah, I'm an old geezer). On C7 using prboom v 2.5.0 and a graphical interface I wrote to select a wad file to play without using the command line, everything works fine. On C8, using the same prboom 2.5.0, graphical interface, and the same SDL libraries, the video is "jerky" - every 2

z: mapping on netlogon share
Is there any way to change the default netlogon share from using z: in logon scripts? We use a Win95 time recording software package that uses the same drive mapping and need to put it on our RH6.1 fileserver but have the obvious conflict. Bit of a problem really. Thanks. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

smbmount questions
Howdy all: I'm trying to use smbmount to mount a win9x share and copy some files for backup, eventually to run as a script invoked via cron. I have RH6.1/samba 2.0.5a, and the windoze box is win95b. If I do the standard mount (smbmount //winbox/backup /mnt/smb04) I have to be root. Also, after it's mounted, I can't create any files there as a normal user (even though the

*** BUG? ***
Hi! I've installed RedHat 6.1 on a Pentium 233. I'm using samba 2.0.5a which came with RH6.1. On another PC (Pentiun-II 400) I've installed Windows NT 4.0. These two PC's are connected to the same network. I've configured Samba to share the home directories on the Linux System. I'm able to reach my own homedir from NT. Within NT I've assigned this share to drive L.

Password Login Failing... (Not sure this went through)
Appologise if this did make it to the list but I just subscribed and didn't see it come back... I am attmepting to install ssh/sshd on my RH6.1 Intel Box. Everything seems to be working (not quite smooth sailing - I had to resort to precompiled RPM for OpenSSL). I did however get it "working." I generated a host key as root and then changed back to joe-user. I created a key for

Installing R on RedHat7.0 -- binary RPM seems OK
FWIW -- I installed RH7.0 *over* my existing R installation (RH6.1). Everything, including tcl/tk, seems OK. R-base is the binary RPM R-base-1.1.1-1 built on 16 Aug 2000. Tcl/Tk are both 8.3. The RH upgrade process seems to have left R-base untouched (good!). -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- r-help mailing list -- Read
