dynamic loading error with Open Watcom object file
Hello. I am trying to use a FORTRAN subroutine from within R (Windows
version). This fortran subroutine is compiled using the Open Watcom Fortran
compiler and the compiled object file is called ritscale.obj. Following the
explanation on pages 193-194 of "The New S language" I use the dyn.load
command:
> dyn.load("f:/maxent/ritscale.obj")

7zip benchmark
Hi, I could try latest 7zip (4.57) on a triple boot machine (Debian SID
i386, x86_64 and native Windows XP SP2), and found something surprising
in the results :
amd64 at 2400MHz
linux32 -> 1814
linux64 -> 1946
win32 -> 2004
So performance is much better in Linux 64 bit than in 32 bit, while both
are slower than native windows system. Is it normal, I mean does anyone

Rsync service on Win2k?
Hi all,
I'm trying to get rsync running on a Windows 2k box (my tape backup
server) to remotely
back up stuff from a few unix boxes. Not my favored constellation, but
there's not
much I can do about that.
I'm hoping someone could give me a quick tip or two on getting rsync working
as a Win2k service. I'm not real proficient with Win2k, so be gentle.

problem loading program..
I'm loading a program from CD-ROM .. the splash screen comes up, but
then a dialog box comes up with "Failed to initialize ..." btw, I'm
running wine under the 2.2.16 linux kernel and the partition I'm running
this program from is a win2k ntfs partition (the program is not limited
to win2k however.. just what i have) Here are some of the errors

win2k vs smbmount, number of cifs ops required
I'm working on some data pipeline issues, and found some interesting results in comparing win2k vs samba. The volume being mounted is a NetApp 960. NetApp provides a way see the # of cifs operations on a given volume/qtree. So I compared how many ops are generated by copying a 12MB file ( a single 2k image ).
The initial reasoning behind this testing was seeing if copying a file at the end

crash using bmp() on windows with Rdll2010 (PR#756)
A few weeks ago I have updated R-1.1.1 for Windows with the fixed R.dll
(Rdll2010.zip) for Win2k from CRAN.
(I have used the same version of R from WinNT4 *and* Win2k for some
time.)
Now I tried to produce a bitmap, but R crashes (WinNT4):
bmp("bitmap.bmp")
plot(1:10)
dev.off() ## crash!
That does not happen with the original R.dll from R-1.1.1 (15 Aug 2000).

possible solution...?
Which DSP are you running to feed your stream? (on winamp I am assuming)
If you are using the new shoutcast 1.8.2 DSP, it has had a lot of problems with super high CPU load and memory leaks. Try Oddcast instead (unless you can run ices or darkice) using VBR Mp3 streaming.
Nothing but happy times here on a win2k dual p2 333 with winamp (2.74) and Oddcast DSP Beta 25 connected to KasterBlaster

Some updates and questions on Takaaki''s problems
Hi all,
I think I''ve narrowed down the problem with
win32-file. It appears that EncryptFile() and
DecryptFile are only supported on Win2k or later. So,
I made some minor modifications to the extconf.rb and
source files and released win32-file 0.4.2 tonight.
That *should* solve that problem.
As for win32-shortcut, I''m not sure why it doesn''t

win32-mmap test suite
I just tried running tc_mmap.rb and noticed that something rather curious
seems to happen. The call to Mmap.new in setup seems to cause the test
suite to just exit without ever actually running the tests.
I reduced the test suite to just this bit of code. This works, although the
final test (TypeError) does not pass - no exception in thrown.
This is 1.8.1 on Win2k.
Any ideas?

Graphical rsync!
Hello,
Something very much resembling a graphical win32-based front-end for rsync
is available at http://sync2nas.sourceforge.net It is released under the
BSD license for all to enjoy.
A few caveats:
* It reportedly only works on WinNT/Win2K. Win9x is being looked into at
this time.
* It is written in Perl/Tk, although all portability conceits were
abandoned fairly early on, and it

SSafe
Hi all
Today I've tried to run SSafe with wine+win2K. And failed:)
My log is in attachment.
SSafe (or wine?) asked for my domain login and password and then gave me
the error message (also attached). Any ideas? The file D:\Progam
Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\vss\ssusexp.chm exist. Does case make any
difference (my filename is in lowercase but in the dialog it is in
uppercase)? For some

compiling on Win32
Hi, I've been tinkering with vorbis for about a week now trying to get the
vorbisfile lib to compile under win32s, I was wondering if someone could
give me a hand as I've reached my wits end with it ...
I recieve the same message for every bat file (after customizing it for my
path configuration):

How to bypass smbfs 2Gb limit without patching ?
Hello everyone,
I would like to send a big tar file (eg: >2Gbytes) from my Linux samba
server to a win2K client without patching the kernel.
Samba server: I'm using Linux version 2.4.8-26mdk (Mandrake Linux 8.1
2.96-0.62mdk) with samba 2.2.5-2.
I'm using tar (GNU tar) 1.13.22 to make the tar file and the command "cp" to
copy this tar file to my win2k client. I've never

Batch mode problem: figure margins too large

batch file (Execution halted)

through R as it will download a table from a US gov site)

eudora
Hi folks,
I'm new to WINE and have actually read the docs, so go easy on me. My
machine is setup to dual boot between Red Hat 7.2 and Windows2000. This
is what I get when I try to run Eudora 5.1 from my Win2k partition.
This is as far it'll go--no window ever displays. I get identical
results with either WINE 20020122 or a CVS snapshot from yesterday
evening. Let me know if

Multiple imputations : wicked dataset ? Wicked computers ? Am I cursed ? (or stupid ?)
Dear list,
I'd like to use multiple imputations to try and save a somewhat badly
mangled dataset (lousy data collection, worse than lousy monitoring, you
know that drill... especially when I am consulted for the first time
about one year *after* data collection).
My dataset has 231 observations of 53 variables, of which only a very
few has no missing data. Most variables have 5-10% of
