"attack" (manage) NT domain using the linux tools?
rpcclient sound cool. I am running 2.0.6 Samba. 'rpcclient' exists with it but a call to 'man rpcclient' gets no results. Could it be that the man pages are in a later release? remote windows management
I keep hoping for better wasy to remotely manage windows machines through samba. In the very old samba-tng there was an rpcclient that could connect to a remote machine and do various things like read/write the registry, grab event logs, etc. I could never get it to work very well and waited for a better one. The trouble is the rpcclient program in samba-current doesn't have these features.

Using rpcclient or samedit to randomise trust account passwords
when an nt 4.0 workstation or backup domain controller is joined to a domain, the trust account password is set to a well-known initial value. if you are concerned about internal network security, this is not really an acceptable risk: any captured network traffic can be decoded simply from knowing the name of the workstation, which is contained in the network traffic itself. the initial value

tng pdc, samba 2.2.8a fileserver
I'm using an ldap-backed TNG PDC for domain logins with no problem. I've got a samba 2.2.8a fileserver that doesn't seem to correctly map usernames to domain SIDS. It is passing authentication requests to the PDC correctly, and allows users to map non-public shares, write to their home directories, etc. When a file's "security' attributes are viewed in windows explorer,

Remote Registry Changes
Heyho. I'm trying to add registry entries to my workstations remotely from my server. I can currently do this remotely from any other workstation, using the standard Windows regedt32, but I'd like to do it form the server. .. The server is Samba 3.0.22-r3 on a Gentoo server. I've been digging around for a while now, and have managed to find docs for samba-tng which seem to

rpcclient regenum
I need a rpcclient which understans the command "regenum". In Samba 2.2 and the current HEAD CVS branch (as well as the SAMBA_3_0 branch), this command does not work, and is commented out: #if 0 /* Simo: reg functions need to be updated to the new cmd interface */ ... static void cmd_reg_enum(struct client_info *info) Any plans for fixing this? I actually tried, but failed. Seems

does rpcclient support ntlmv2?
Is there a way to make rpcclient support ntlmv2? When I configure my server to only accept ntlmv2 logins, my rpcclient stops working. I tried the approach needed to make TNG's rpcclient use ntlmv2 (a line like "client ntlmv2 = auto" in smb.conf), but it didn't work. samba-tng-alpha-1.4.tar.gz
ftp://samba.org/pub/samba/alpha and mirror sites rpcclient and samedit etc. on sun ultras were failing because getopt cannot be reused. evidence of this is by doing a samedit "createuser username -p password" and the reported password on-screen is total garbage. this was fixed by using the GNU getopt and getopt_long functions (hooray!) in the same way that rsync does. i have access

rpcclient enumdrivers 3 times out on NT drivers
This is puzzling me (and hampering some work, slightly): NT4SP6 + full updates server, with some printers attached. "rpcclient -U admin%pass enumdrivers 2" server gives me a list of stuff like this: [Windows 4.0] Printer Driver Info 2: Version: [0] Driver Name: [HP LaserJet 5Si PCL 5e] Architecture: [Windows 4.0] Driver Path:

Gathering EventLog Information from a remote server or workstation
Hi everyone, I've recently begun looking into ways of automating the monitoring of all my servers. Whilst most of the Linux/BSD stuff is sorted, I am having more difficulties gathing the details of the Windows Boxes. The main source of problems is how to retrieve the event log details from a remote machine. During my research I came across some old mailling list articules in 1999 regarding

rpcclient Shutdown
I have compile rpcclient using the last CVS, and have some questions regarding it. I would like to use rpcclient with perl to do a remote shutdown to NT Workstations on lan. >From my linux box ( Running Samba 2.0.6 ) I can successfully connect to the remote NT4.0 Wks, but the list of commands that I have access is only regenum regdeletekey regcreatekey regquerykey regdeleteval

Want to contribute to SAMBA Doc : NT,PDC, Problems, etc...
Hi all, Like certainly many members of those lists (SAMBA's list), I would like to contribute to SAMBA project. The main reason is because when you write something you must absolutely be familiar with the subject. It will give me oportunity to be (more) familiar with some kinds of SAMBA Spec. Since I read samba mailling list, many questions are post about SAMBA PDC, BDC, etc, interaction

Will rpcclient ever get better?
I was wondering if anyone has heard of someone trying to improve on rpcclient, specifically regarding the printer-related commands. Also, it seems that rpcclient has trouble returning a large list of printers (enumprinters), like in the range of 200. Has anyone heard about this? Thanks in advance for replies :-) Thomas Klopf MMS - Gulf Region (ACS-GS contractor) -------------- next part

Change password via rpcclient?
Is it possible to point rpcclient at a samba PDC and change the user's password? With rpcclient I can "logon" to the PDC as someone with admin privilages (to do adddriver, etc..) from a remote machine. smbpasswd -r seems to provide no similiar functionality.

rpcclient-style call for windows messenger service ("WinPopup")?
Can Samba be used to generated WinPopUp RPC calls on TCP port 135? I am familiar with using the "smbclient -M" command to send messages using the Win Popup protocol, otherwise known as Windows Messenger Service, or what a Microsoft user does from a DOS prompt as a "net send" command. WinPopup can be generated either via Microsoft file sharing protocols, using the

citrix stores addition information into SAM on pdc
hi, we want to replace our nt4 pdc/bdc with samba and we use windows nt4 terminal servers with citrix in our environment. as far as i know, we will get a problem here. Printer Migration hackery
Hokay. It appears that enumdrivers / getdriver in rpcclient is broken, and won't be fixed soon. I'd fix it meself, but hey, I'm too busy clearing skyscrapers in a single bound and moving faster than a speeding bullet. Or maybe I looked at the cvs once and got REALLY scared. Unfortunately, I can't wait, so I've come up with a nasty hack to help us with querying samba for the
