Slow pkginstalls due to long door_calls to nscd
Hi all, I am installing a zone onto two different V445s running S10U4 and the zones are taking hours to install (about 1000 packages), that is, the problem is identical on both systems. A bit of trussing and dtracing has shown that the pkginstalls being run by the zoneadm install are making door_call calls to nscd that are taking very long, so far observed to be 5 to 40 seconds, but always in

Dtrace probes for voluntary and involuntary context switches
Hi, I am profiling some workloads for the voluntary and involuntary context switches. I am interested in finding out the reasons causing these two types of context switches. As far as I understand, involuntary context switch happens on expiration of time slice or when a higher priority process comes in. While the voluntary switch generally happens when a process is waiting for I/O etc. So to

CVS oddness on Solaris.
Ok.. While helping someone else out with a Solaris 6 issue.. I'm noticing something is broken on Solaris 7.. I've not verified it on Linux.. That is my next step. But this is what I'm seeing. I installed the latest CVS snapshot (actually from the Developer's tree but no changes have been made since 21th), compiled, and installed.. and now: ssh localhost "ps -ef" does

openssh 3.7.1p2 fault on solaris 9 for sparc when built as 64-bit
I built OpenSSH as a 64-bit binary on Solaris 9, using gcc 3.3.2, OpenSSL 0.9.7c and zlib 1.2.1. sshd starts up normally, and will begin the login session, however, some time after it reads /etc/default/login, it faults and kills the connection. There are no error messages logged to syslog (with LogLevel set to DEBUG) or with the -ddd option. Here's a truss of the failure: 8132:

Strange problem with rsync and expect
Version: 3.0.6OS: CentOS 6.6 I met a strange problem when using rsync with expect. I wrote a script backing up using rsync and expect. However when I run the script twice for two different files at same time, the two files on destination path would be deleted automatically before the files closed. The output of inotify_wait was like: ./ MODIFY .redo02.log.dOlbek ./ DELETE .redo02.log.dOlbek

adding printer driver to a printer
Hi, I'm using debian woody with samba (2.2.3a-12.3). After installing 2.2.8a everything that worked, still works. What didn't work, still doesn't work. Sharing files works properly. I'd like to share a printer via the samba server. When I go to the printers&faxes share in explorer, no printers are shown. Hereunder is my smb.conf, /etc/lprng/printcap, and the logfile

smbd hangs on solaris
In trying to get samba on solaris 10 to integrate in our AD, I installed the version from blastwave. The problem I have now is that smbd seems to hang when I start it with smbd -D. The log output with -d 10 is probably too long to post, but here is the last rows before the hang: [2007/05/15 13:05:15, 5] lib/charcnv.c:(81) Substituting charset '646' for LOCALE [2007/05/15 13:05:15, 5]

data corruption with ms-office files on samba 2.2.3a
Hi, sometimes a ms-office file (ms word 2k, ms excel 2k) will be destroyed, when the client writes it to the server. The strange thing is, that samba writes parts of its log-files at the top and bottom of the file. Here are the first 2 lines of the destroyed file: [2002/09/04 17:03:05, 2] smbd/open.c:open_file(216) tb opened file xxx/xx/xx/xxxx/xx xx/filename_TB.doc read=Yes write=Yes

Why does Samba 2.0.6 like other systems but not itself?
I'm running samba on a SPARC20 running Solaris 2.4. I have been running v2.0.5a successfully for quite some time. I've tried a couple of times to move up to 2.0.6 but there seems to be a problem that I can't diagnose easily. 2.0.6 builds with no problems 2.0.6 installs with no problems 2.0.6 starts up with no problems smbstatus returns correct info with no problems smbclient -L
