problem with printing
I had a Solaris 2.7 server up and running with samba 2.0.2, and everything was
great. I downloaded 2.0.4b and installed it. Since then, printing no longer
works. The only way someone can print something is if there is a drive mounted
from the server to a client (it doesn't matter who mounts the drive). As soon
as the drive gets unmounted printing stops working, and the Microsoft clents

Are the connections between Domain Controlers encrypted?
Hi,
Just that is my question: Are the connection between DC encripted?.
I'm planning to create a secondary DC on a external dedicated server and i
want to know if the connections are secure, because is not a good idea to
have authentication data traveling through internet without any kind of
encription...
My main DC have ldap through ssl activated and working fine, but i don't
know if

XP slow to print to Samba 3.0 alpha21 server
Hi all,
As WinXP begins to loom larger in our environment, we're seeing a
consistent pattern that XP machines (mostly XP Professional, possibly
others) take an excessively long time to access shared printers: I'm
told that it takes up to 5 minutes to initially install the printer on
the local machine, and it typically takes around 45 seconds to deliver
print jobs to the queue.
The print

Current situation:

c) 1 Samba server running as WINS server
d) NO Windows Servers
e) 1:1 correspondance between Netbios names and DNS names
f) DHCP currently tells the Windows machines the WINS server.
Problem:

Wifi WEP / Cisco aironet wireless internal card 802.11b
Hi,
I have a IBM ThinkPat T30 a Cisco Aironet wireless internal in the
laptop 802.11b only.
It works great with open Acess points, but when i try to connect to
encripted ones.
I got the dialog box asking for the passphrase 128 bit, I enter it and
after that i receive the dialog box again!
Maybe my card do not support WEP or I am doing something wrong?
Here is part of what i can see on

Workstation Trust Accounts
Hi there,
I have a really ugly problem, which, as I know is partially selfmade.
But to the problem:
I have five servers running samba-2.2.3a-12 (latest Debian Woody
release) which are controlled by one master server. All of the five
servers act as pdc for an own nt-domain. Now to keep the administrative
work as low as possible I have this one master server. Via this server

How to encript SIP comunications?
Hello Fach,
I have used openvpn for a while and in the new release thereis a feature called "server
mode" that makes posible to have a full network of vpn links besides a single TUN/TAP
adaptor (a pure software NIC) in the server. I haven't used that feature, but I think
this is what you need. Also openvpn runs on linux, *bsd, solaris, windows, and maybe in
other OS.

Selective Compression/Encryption
Currently compression and I assume if encryption is implemented it is
turned on or off during mount. There are however many times when a user may
want to select which files/directories they want to compress or encrypt.
This will also be helpful when implementing btrfs support in grub for
example. We can say the disk can be compressed/encrypted except for /boot so
compression/encryption

Disabling logging during pam_authenticate
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Is there any way to disable logging of failures during
pam_authenticate?
I ask because OpenSSH is currently generating an extra "authentication
failure..." message at each login.
The problem is that OpenSSH likes to try a blank password attempting
any other authentication. This is a shortcut for anonymous SSH servers

SMBMount v2.05a
Hi
I have two different distributions running, RedHat 6.0 and Slackware 7.0.
Both machines are running Samba 2.05a.
When I try the smbmount command on the RedHat machine, it has no problem
mounting the smb service.
RedHat 6.0:
works: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c
failed: smbmount "\\win95\c" -c `mount /mnt/c -u 123 -g 456`
Slacware 7.0:
failed: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c

After verifying my smb.conf file, the only thing that changed was this
"panic action" command was added. My smb.conf is attached.
All our workstations stopped working. If I change the computer name,
switch to workgroup, then try to re-join the domain under a different
computer name, it works. Do you know what .tdb file machine information
is stored in.
Also I exported all

FW: samba woes
All,
I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last
few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I
