Sharing to domain users?
Couple questions to those who have the winbindd service up and running...
I *think* winbindd is working now... I can browse the samba server through
windows explorer and open directories. There is a little delay when I first
connect... I assume this is winbind passing the authentication request to my
NT servers and awaiting a response.
The problem now is that I can't seem to write to the

Password server loop
Hi Warren,
You will get this error if the name you have specified in the 'password
server=' smb.conf entry resolves to your own ip address. If you are using NIS,
and resolving username/password info there, then you would use security=user,
and would not have/need a password server = entry....
Hope This Helps,
Don Mccall

FW: RE: RE: file-permition samba vrs novell !
Hi Tom,
Same problem, different flavor - now you make the directory Executable by
ppsuser (you can cd thru it) but once you are there, you cannot SEE the files
in the directory (took away read access on the directory from the ppsuser
group...). Problem is that Samba does different things depending on whether it
is checking for the existence of a file or trying to open a file. Bottom line

Winbind - Why won't you authenticate???
Well, I managed to get Samba 2.2.3 up and running on our Solaris 8 machine.
I installed with the winbind option and everything went though just find.
I was able to join the NT domain and now I can do a wbinfo -u "and get a
domain user list as well as a "wbinfo -g and get a group list. For some
reason though, the authentication isn't working.
I tried to "wbinfo -a" and

Hi All,
Well, i've managed to enable some debugging in syslog, I had to put in
/etc/syslog.conf
;*.debug
on the syslog line.
So at least I have an error which is being returned into syslog from
winbind.
This is what I get from winbind

Hi Richard;
Are you doing the operations on these files from the MPE prompt, or are you
in the posix shell at the time of the edit/pipe, whatever? And what MPE
filetype are you working on? Problem is that samba

Problems with NT4 mounting samba shares on startup.
Hi,
I'm encountering an inconsistant problem with NT4 SP3 workstations not
being able to remap the shares offered by my samba server. The server is
running samba-2.0.5a on a Linux machine running Red Hat 6.0. The
problem usually seems to occur every morning when the machines are
booted up and everyone logs in, however not everyone has the problem and
then problem doesn't occur every day

Problems Using the MultipleUsersOnConnection Registry Key in WTS NT4
Hi.
I am running SAMBA 2.0.7 on HP-UX 11.00 and HP-UX 10.20.
I have tried adding the MultipleUsersOnConnection registry key onto my
Microsoft Windows NT Server 4 Terminal Server Edition servers, running with
Service Pack 6. After I make this change in the registry and reboot my WTS
servers all my samba connections from the servers are still being made with
one process instead of being split

Fw: Hostname problem
Thanx,
I've tried to use a LMHOSTS file using :
nmbd -H /ets/LMHOSTS -D
and changed the name resolve order to :
name resolve order = wins lmhosts bcast
I've also forced the Netbios name to linbox (in LMHOSTS and smb.conf) but it still says that s098 is not recognised !
So, I don't know what to do :(
As someone mentioned, it would be fine to be able to disable DNS lookup (which is

is that it is difficult to determine when to convert. With FTP, most
of the developers utilize a user defined file extension list that isn't
too reliable.
A coworker came up with an alternative for our FTP apps that was much
more reliable. What he did was evaluate the first 1K bytes of data to
determine if it was a binary or ascii file.
I don't have time to work on this, but if

Changing Domains from NT4 / AD 2000
Hello all.
AIX 4.3.3 / Samba 2.0.6 / Production NT4.0 domain
Security = DOMAIN
encrypt passwords = yes
update encrypted = yes
Action: Moving from NT4.0 domain called nt40 to AD 2000 Domain called ad-domain
Problem: Users that have been migrated to ad-domain cannot authenticate to AIX SAMBA shares . . . the AIX SAMBA server is still part of the nt40 domain.
Explanation: I can however, map /

Memory leak in winbindd
I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on NetBSD. I've been having an annoying
problem with winbindd dying inexplicably. I finally found a test that
seems to (eventually) kill it:
while wbinfo -t > /dev/null; do /usr/bin/true; done
The problem is a memory leak in winbindd. Actually, wbinfo -t will
still work, but wbinfo -u doesn't (response.extra_data is always null).

Problem with Winbind
Hi everyone,
I am having a difficult time with winbindd in order to connect to my shared
directories on my HP-UX box. I am running samba 2.2.3a on HP-UX 11, and
here is what's happenning:
I can start winbindd (I'm using -i -d 3 to monitor it), and using wbinfo -u
I can list the domain users. I have joined the domain using smbpasswd -r
PDC -j DOMAIN -U admin%password, I get the reply

Netbios alias -max names or chars
Hello all
This is my first post to Samba lists so I hope I have picked the correct
list. Please let me know if I haven't.
My question is what is the maximum amount of names or characters that can be
put on the "netbios aliases" line in the smb.conf. We have situation where
we potentially need to put up to 200 names on the line (big machines, one
name per application).
Cheers
