Samba 2.0.6, MKS' touch.exe, and file/dir time stamps
Hello all,
we are experiencing problems with samba 2.0.6 and the MKS touch command.
during our builds, we touch files and directories so that our make
dependencies work correctly. Unfortunately, it seems that MKS' touch.exe
doesn't actually change the time stamp of a file or directory. The
command returns without an error, but the timestamp does not change.

Date/time bug in 2.0.5a?
Is this just me????
Just installed 2.0.5a for testing.
Copying files (using explorer) from NT to Samba-2.0.5a (Solaris2.6
*and* Irix6.5)
fails to copy the date/time stamp correctly (1.9.18p7 is fine, from the
same NT system).

wine-20011004 Problems
I'm having major problems with the 10/4 Wine release. Currently the only
thing I really use Wine for is Eudora Light 3.0.5. The most stable
release for me thus far has been wine-20010112, which is what I'm using
right now. Most of the releases since then have had window problems with
Eudora-- messages having too much blank space, strange things.
So I tried 1004, and it has a new

Programs under wine can't connect to the network
Hey all
Have a very strange problem in slack 8, using wine 20011004. First noticed this with counterstrike, than checked with other programs that should access the net.
I get this error, and programs fail:
fixme:winsock:_get_sock_fd handle 304 is not a socket (GLE 6)
Documentation seems to imply that if I can get on the net with linux, I should be able to use wine with it. Weirdest part is

retrieving search result positions
Hi
I''m considering using Ferret in v2 of Weft QDA, a wxruby desktop
application for textual analysis in social science.
Ferret seems a very impressive package that meets and exceeds my
requirements, but I can''t find how to retrieve specific details about
the results.
I''d like to be able to run fairly simple queries. I then need to look at
each term match, and get

R-beta: a bug in the lm function ?
I ran a function called BoxCox, taken from the book by Venables and
Ripley, for checking the need for power transformation. This function
works fine using the version 0.50 of R, but gives an error message
with version 0.60.
The lm function in version 0.60 is different from that in version 0.50.
Is there a bug in the new lm function?

same changes in the DHCP to DNS script
I am "playing" around with the DNS update script from the Wiki
(https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Configure_DHCP_to_update_DNS_records_with_BIND9)
and made a "few" changes, which I think could be important.
1. the script dhcp-dyndns.sh should give back the control to dhcpd as
soon as possible; therefore I am using a second bash-script (dyndns.sh)
to fork of the main script

which compiler
Hello,
This is perhaps a little off-topic, but I am curious as to what compilers
people use to compile R (under unix/linux). I am primarily interested in
the use of egcs or gcc, g77 or f2c, etc. It seems most of the gcc
interest and development is towards egcs, and while a gcc 2.8.1/g77
combination did work and compile R on my primary linux machine, it also
managed to produce kernels that did

In this particular case, burn-in will most certainly occur. TiVo is connected
to televisions, and big screen TVs are very susceptible to burn in because of

compilation of 0.62.4
Hello,
I have compiled 0.62.4 under Linux and it runs fine (a gcc/g77
combination). When I try the same thing under AIX (4.1.5) or under dec's
OSF (both also gcc/g77) I get problems. Under AIX, system.c complains:

Using two subnets to change network configuration
Problem: My network uses the 192.168.1.0/24 network. Since is the most common network in all of the world it begins presenting problems when I want to set up vpns, or try to do
other routing.
The solution: Change the network from 192.168.1.0/24 to 172.24.24.0/22. This is somewhere in the middle of the less frequently used RFC-1918 20 bit private network range. My
network contains 40 or so

f2c question
Hello,
I decided to try to compile R version 1.0.0 on my home-hacked linux
system. This is not a conventional distribution, but has been upgraded
countless numbers of times (I think it started as a 1.2.13). It's up to
2.2.13 (kernel version) and I still use gcc 2.7.2.3. I have managed to
deal with the fortran part of R with f2c. As it turns out I can compile
the program OK, but when it

hardlinks not working with inode number > 2^31
I've been using 3.0.0pre8 to move a Debian archive from one filesystem
to another. This archive contains a daily snapshot of the Debian ftp
site, with common files hardlinked to save space.
I noticed that it was using far more space than necessary. Upon
investigation it seems that all the source files that have inode numbers
greater than 2^31 aren't being hardlinked together at the
