Problems with security = domain/server and samba 2.0.6
Every 12. day or so domain members changes passwords in the NT domain, and after a while (5 minutes normally) the NT PDC starts to sync against the BDCs in the domain. Before this syncing is done the authentication of new connections usually fails. We have a pretty large NT domain with 40.000+ users and the syncing process can take up to one hour, causing samba authentication to fail during this

ERRDOS message from smbclient
Hi: I'm using smbclient version 1.9.15p8 to do some printing from a Solaris 2.3 box to an NT 4.0 share of a remote Win95 box with a printer attached. Unix <-----> NT 4.0 printer share <---WAN---> Win95 printer share (NT is sharing a share...) About a year ago, I wrote a printer script that is used by the lp system to print to the printer using an lp command. As an error check,

PATCH - smbd/trans2.c to support writing to Unix named pipes(FIFO)
Hi, We have a simple "Remote Procedure Call" mechanism that we are using to communicate between Windows computers and our Unix Samba server. The Windows application is proprietary software (Progress - not ours) and we have to work within the constraints of it. We have a Unix named pipe sitting in a Samba shared directory. We have a small C program that runs as a Unix daemon,

winbind + windows SMB share, ACL and ftp woes
Redhat AS3 SAMBA 3.0.0-14.3E (redhat's as3 rpm) I am not sure if what I am trying to is is possible or not: I have an linux ftp server chrooted to an smb share onto a netapp. I want to use the NT4 ACLS on the smb share for the ftp server file perms. (the linux ftp server will be a drop in replacement for IIS.) However, even when I set the ACLS(using NT4) to DENY ALL for a user,,,that

Empty To: Header and message_address_parse
Using dovecot 1.2beta (but earlier versions should behave similarly) we have a problem in conjunction with empty To: headers and the RT request tracker. RT sends mail out using Bcc: and no To: header at all. To make some mailers happy one can configure to send a dummy To: header, which we do. Our To header looks like: To: "AdminCc of rt Ticket #123456":; The message_address_parse

Installing Windows apps ( Mandrake 8 / Codeweavers wine)
I've been tearing hair out for days over this stuff ... hopefully someone here can enlighten me further. I've managed to get wine to the stage where it appears to be installed as per the codeweaver site .... have tried both the "fake_windows" & windows partition methods, but in both cases when I try running any windows application installer it bombs out within seconds,

Apparently it has something to do with kernel locks??????

Geometry delaunayn and deldir results, differing results from Octave due to decimal precision?
The problem: I would like to translate the Octave algorithm in griddata.m to R. Within the griddata algorithm calls are made to the Delaunay function. For the R translation I have found delaunayn within the "geometry" package and also the deldir package. Both do similar things but give slightly different results depending on the input. The question is, what is making the results for the

Emulation vs Virtualization
Would someone please explain in simple english what the functional differences are between emulation & virtualization are as far as being able to run Windows applications under Unix / Linux in a "real world" (ie commercial office) environment ?? For what its worth I'd prefer to use an open source unix (FreeBSD / OpenBSD) rather than linux, however there are other issues

Knowing The Limits
Hello, We have had Samba 2.2.2 running successfully for some time on an Ultra 10 with Solaris 2.8. Over the last few days we have been having trouble with 'loosing' access to some new shares and found that some new users had problems accessing their home dirs. To get around the problem with the home dirs we shortened the length of the path in the passwd file and moved the dir

Long Share Names and Windows NT Workstation 4.0
Hello, Can anyone advise if there is a limit on the length of share names in Samba when accessing via NT Workstation 4.0 clients? It seems that the limit is 12 characters for NT, our Windows 98, 2000 and XP machines work with longer share names. If so does anyone know if there is a patch to make long share names work with NTWS 4.0? Best regards, Keith
