Apple Share Client / NT Server Login Problems
I am wondering if anyone has seen this behavior with an AppleShare
Client 3.8.3 and an NT Server set up as a Macintosh File Server. I
am not sure of the specifics on the NT Server. After clients log onto
the server and enter their Username and passwords and then submit,
the log on procedure locks up. A force quit with Apple+Option+Esc
quits the client and then the share is mounted on the

make_file() could ignore ENODEV errors (from afs filesystem)
Hi,
Would it be acceptable to patch make_file() in flist.c to ignore any
ENODEV's and not mark them as io_error=1?
In afs, a mountpoint to a volume which does not exist gives an
ENODEV. As such, it can't be copied, so should (or could) just be
ignored?
The io_error isn't terminal, but it does disable the delete function
and you end up with an exit code of 23.

Virus checker gets error "Network Name was deleted" ?
hi,
Has anyone encountered problems running virus checkers on NT4+sp3
clients against Samba served drives ? We recently upgraded
a samba server to 1.9.18p10 and now have an intermittent problem
where during the scan of Samba drive the virus check flakes out
with the error;
"Network Name was deleted"
I'm told that the server still appears to be browsable after this
error, and the

Irix joblimits failure (was: Re: New snapshot)
IRIX has a compatibility mechanism that lets you test for optional symbols (like jlimit_start) at run-time. I think these patches will let all all IRIX 6.5 systems build images that will test for job limit support dynamically:

exit code 23 - inappropriate error for copying symlinks?
Hi,
I've just created a small directory as an example, it holds a file and
two symlinks that don't point to anything, and another symlink going
nowhere in a subdirectory.
rsync (2.5.5) is happy to copy these but produces an error. I can't
see why it considers this an error? It's not even aborting after it
first encounters this 'error'.

Imposing permissions on directories under a share
Hi,
Does anyone know of a way to impose permissions on files in a directory
under a share but not on the top level of the share itself ?
eg.
The share name is [share] - path=/share, we have a directory of /share/test
and we want to force all files in that directory to be world readable.
I know create mode works at the share level, but this isn't explicit enough.
Anyone any ideas ?

Optional symbols on IRIX
A couple days ago I mailed in a patch to use _MIPS_SYMBOL_PRESENT to
test at run-time whether jlimit_startjob() was present IRIX systems. I
neglected to mention that the patch I sent in wasn't entirely complete:
a _real_ fix would test '#include <optional_sym.h>' in configure, and
also require either the MipsPRO 7.2.x or MipsPRO 7.3.1.3 or newer
compiler.

IRIX 6.5 patch for Compression with UsePrivilegeSeparation
Simon Cooper already mailed in a patch to get the effects of MAP_ANON on
IRIX systems, but it was against openssh/3.3p1. I've reapplied his
patach to openssh/3.4p1 and include it as an attachment.
Here's his explanation:

Asterisk with Internet connectivity
Hi!
I have a setup with Asterisk in front of a PBX connected with ISDN to
the PSTN and to the PBX. This Asterisk (a old 1.2 instance) is doing
ENUM for outgoing calls and allows incoming calls per SIP.
Recently the IP connectivity for this location was down the whole
telephony was down too - not even incoming calls did work. This is
really strange as incoming calls from PSTN are routed

Asterisk as Internet Talk Radio PBX system
I see in the archives a brief thread between Barton and w last November
2003 about streaming to the Internet. I'd like to use an Asterisk to
mediate multiple VOIP calls originated from the Internet to the studio
to be mixed then passed out to an encoding PC thence back to Internet

computer not showing up in Network Neighborhood
Hi,
Has anyone had this problem with Samba? I have been having trouble
getting my Samba server to show up in my Network Neighborhood list. It
is in the right workgroup, and when I do a search for computer, it is
found. Yet, it never shows up in my NN list. Can someone give me some
advice on how to make this work?
Thanks,
Ken

hiding the UNIX system name from Network Neighborhood
Hi,
Here's the deal; Currently within our NT domain, Network Neighborhood can
see our SAMBA server via both the "netbios" name (set with 'netbios name =
vegas' from within the smb.conf file), plus the actual UNIX system
name. We want our users to browse our SAMBA server only via the "netbios"
name and not the actual UNIX system name. How can I configure

SAMBA/Network Neighborhood problem
Hello SAMBA gurus, I have SAMBA installed on a Linux box behind a Linux firewall. Also running behind the same firewall on the same class C sub-net is a NT 4.0 box. After starting up SMBD/NMBD I could see the remote SAMBA system and the file and printer shares displayed as icons in the NT 4.0 Network Neighborhood Explorer file system. Right clicking and displaying the menu over the highlighted

Few questions 2.0.6 is there a network neighborhood like app for linux(KDE) and tweaking more speed on moving files.
ok I finally got 2.0.6 up and running, much thanks to those who helped.
currently I have it set up on a 166, with a 2gig drive running suse6.0 with
kernel version 2.0.36. I am using an NT PDC, with samba authenticating via
the server. a few things. For some reason periodically when I browse the
server
my home directory will not show up. now that i think I may be logging in as
guest
