Samba PDC: 98 client unable to locate user list.
I just set up my samba box as a pdc on small (4) network that I have at home. whenever I specify user shares on my 98 client it is unable to get the user list from the Samba. I am able to log on without problem as multiple users. I also notice that when I logon on my 98 client it copies config files every time I logon. I imagine that I may not have the necessary shares setup. I am running

Windows 98 user level sharing
I've been going thru conniptions trying to set a Windows 98 client for user level access. I think part of the problem is I have insufficient info, in spite of reading everything I can get my hands on. My server is RH 6.0 with Samba 2.0.5a compiled from samba.org source in the default configuration. I have it set up as a working W9x login server, with workgroup= being the same workgroup as the

SAMBA as as printserver ..
Was looking for some quick advice on SAMBA as a printserver: I'm in the position of trying to "sell" my company on a Linux- based printserver to relieve the burden of handling 30+ printer spools off of our NT PDC (25 NT servers, and we're printserving off of our PDC .. don't ask me, I'm new here. =) With SAMBA 2.0.6, I have gotten SAMBA properly handling print requests

problems with w2k and samba PDC
I simply cannot join my domain controlled by a samba PDC (vers. 2.0 or the newest version 2.0.7) with w2k professional. If I try to join the domain a messagebox appears and claims that the particular domain doesn't exist (allthough I know it does!). If one examines the logfiles, it seems as if they don't understand themselves at all.

Join NT domain w/o using Server Manager?
I've been through the Archives, read the FAQs and pertinent info in the docs that came with the source I downloaded (3.16.2000) samba-latest.tar.gz, and have been unable to find a solution to my problem. I saw an article by Jeremy Allison stating "There are two methods of adding an NT machine to a domain. You can add the machine using the NT administrator tool called Server Manager for

Samba exporting an NFS mount
Hello, I have an NFS server with all our user's home directories on a server that does not support SMB. I wish to mount this directory on a second system and re-export it via samba so that users can access their unix home directories from their windows boxes. My samba server is running CentOS 5.0, and I have the the home directories mounted at /home/na, and there is no rootsquash, so the

"\0" gives no warning "unknown escape sequence" (PR#11107)
Full_Name: Volkmar Klatt Version: 2.6.2 OS: linux Submission from: (NULL) (84.147.0.178) Hello, the documentation article ?Quotes from package:base could be improved by discussing the meaning of "\0" escape sequence. In R (currently used: R-2.6.2), a "\0" in a string will silently terminate that string, just as it would in C code. There is no warning about an unknown escape

dovecot 1.0, namespace & mbox
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, i try to use a new namespace with mbox parallel to my working maildir configuration. With this i have a few interesting effects: - - dovecot doesn't use the CONTROL statement and generate a .subscriptions file at the namespace directory. The INDEX statement is used. - - dovecot can work with subdirectories even mbox is used - - I

Samba Passwords
I have a RH 6.0 server setup with accounts for about 1500 users (school), I use encrypted passwords. I would like users to be able to change their samba ('Windows networking') passwords and at the same time change their unix passwords (used for E-mail). I have the following in my smb.conf file as per the given example: unix password sync = Yes passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd

LDAP docs?
Hi all, Can someone please point me to where I would find info on the experimental LDAP support for Samba? I've looked through everything I could find on the web and in the 2 more recent books, but could only find passing mention that it's being worked on. Is it still so experimental that no one's documented anything about it yet? Thanks, -- Seeya, Paul ---- Doing

samba and net start
Hi, I was wondering if samba provides a means to start a programme on an NT server, specifically a service? This is equivalent to the 'net start' command, but I wish to start a service from my Linux server. Thanks Rob --

"\0" gives no warning "unknown escape sequence" (PR#11117)
You seem to have missed '\nnn' character with given octal code (1, 2 or 3 digits) in ?Quotes, so \0 is a both known and documented escape sequence. (Yes, really, '0' _is_ 1 octal digit.) That explains your subject line: such as warning would be misleading in the extreme. What is done with \0 is not explained on that help page, but then neither is what is done

X-UID gaps cause Dovecot/IMAP to hang
Hi, When the Dovecot 1.0.rc19 IMAP server encounters X-UID headers with gaps in them, it hangs indefinitely. I've attached a sample mailbox (in mbox format) which repeatably exhibits this behavior. The mbox contains only three messages with the following X-UIDs in order: 774, 785, 787. If I remove the X-UID headers from each message, Dovecot handles the mailbox without any problems. UW-IMAP

Recursive indexing can cause R-1.8.0 (and R-1.7.1) to segment fault (PR#4486)
Recursive indexing can cause R-1.8.0 (and R-1.7.1) to segment fault First of all, many thanks to the R team!! R is really a software for everyday work. Yes, I've found a fault, but I hope it's not just faultfinding ;-) In the NEWS file of R-1.8.0, first printed in R NEWS 1.7.1, there was given a promise: [ 1 ] o Recursive indexing of lists is allowed, so x[[c(4,2)]] is
