Multiple NT users on a single box
I have a win2000 box for multiple users. Each user has their own user name and password which is authenticated on the same box. I also have a Linux/Samba box serving up files and shared directories. The users and passwords are duplicated on the linux box - I'm not using user/pass synchronization or anything like that, I just duplicate the effort (for now). Each winNT user has a drive

fail-over, redundancy, bdc, multi-dc-domain
I'm aware of, at least generally, how one would have done a BDC/Redundant server under OpenLDAP Samba3. However, rolling your own multi-domain-controller was fairly daunting [for me] under Samba3 / OpenLDAP. I've been very interested in Samba4 for the more integrated nature of having LDAP/DNS/Samba all under one roof. [i.e. Fewer places where I can screw it up horribly.] However I'm

Adding circles or ellipses to graphs
Hello, I'm developing an ordination using metaMDS (package vegan). The analysis identifies 3 distinct groups that I'd like to define by either adding circles or ellipses to help identify the groups. The data set is a spatial temporal data base depicting change in each of 4 areas over 3 time periods. I can add lines that would link each of the time - x - area trajectories, but

Cleaning up Network Neighborhood
I couldn't find anything like this in the archives, although it must be there. We are running Samba 2.0.7 on RedHat Linux 6.0 using Windows 95 clients. Our Network Neighborhood is filled with workgroups that no longer exist. In some cases, someone connected with a laptop that was in a certain workgroup and it was added to the list of our workgroups. Even that that person has been gone for

Windows 2000 Not Seeing Linux Box Through Samba
I set up my Linux box with Samba 2.x I can see my Windows 98 and Windows 2000 boxes fine - but none of the Windows boxes can see the Linux box in Network Neighborhood. I added the ip's AND created a user / pw in Linux to match my windows credentials. However, it will not work. Am I missing something?

smbmount question
Hi, I'm running Linux 2.2.2 w/ Samba 2.0.2, using the smbmount that comes with Samba 2.0.2. I noticed that when I mount shares, smbmount sticks around, almost like a daemon: [root@jason /root]# smbmount //XXXX.gatech.edu/XXXX$ "XXXXXX" -U jkau -c "mount /mnt/cnd" < /dev/null > /tmp/smbmount.out [root@jason /root]# ps ax | grep smbmount 10678 ? Can anybody recommend a good T1/PRI provider ?
Are you looking for local or Long distance? What will these T1s primarily be used for(inbound/outbound, domestic, local, long distance, international) How important are per minute rates to you? how many minutes do you expect to use per month? We are in Tampa Florida and have 15 T1s from several different providers so I may be able to refer you to one if it's a match to what you're

Return value associated with a factor
I am using the code below to extract census tract information. save.tract$state, save.tract$county and save.tract$tract are returned as factors. In the last three statements, I need to save the actual value of the factor, but, instead, the code is yielding the position of the factor. How do I instead return the value of the factor? By way of example, for Lon=-82.49574 and Lat=29.71495, the code

Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?
Desperate to find out why connecting to a samba share(on an AIX server) from W2K is so slow, I tried connecting to the same share from a Linux box, using smbclient: smbclient \\\\aixserver\\sharedir$ -U lynn The results were amazing. The connection was so MUCH FASTER then connecting from a W2K (pro) workstation: \\aixserver\sharedir$ (in the Start|Run edit box) When I examined the samba log

NAT + different subnets + NT domain = ???
I appologize since this is not strictly samba-related, but I thought some kind soul might be able to help. proportional symbol map ggplot
Hello, we want to plot a proportional symbol map with ggplot. Symbols' area should have the same proportions as the scaled variable. Hereby an example we found on http://www.r-bloggers.com/bubble-chart-by-using-ggplot2/ . In this example we see the proportions of the symbols' area are different from the proportions of the scaled variable: crime <-

Probs with SAMBA(HPUX)<->NT connection
Hi, I have the following problem. We are using a linux box for the export of $HOME to NT-clients. All NT clients are patched not to use encryp. passwords. Now I tried to move everything to a HP9000(11.00). Samba (2.0.6) installation was easy. I've just moved the working smb.conf to the hp and it won't work. :( I tested everything from a linux box as described in diag.txt and it works.

Redhat Linux 7 on a Win Nt Network
Hi, my name is Scott. I am currently testing Linux for my company -we want to see if we can have Linux workstation(s) on our Microsoft network. I'm new to Linux and have so far managed to: install redhat linux 7 on a Compaq PC (intel III) token ring machine and configure the gateway to access the internet (through Netscape). Now, I need to see if I can get this machine talking on the

NT domains -vs- simple workgroups????
Hi, I've been following some of the posts (never received a reply to mine but found one similiar). I have a question that I hope you can clarify. Original question: I can see the server from my Windows XP machine using network neighbors, but when I double click on it I get: Path not found One reply: If you're using NT domains (not simple "workgroups")... What is the

Win95 client can see everyone but linux box
Hi, I'm lucky enough to have samba working fine on SuSE 8.0, sharing a printer with several windows computers. Earlier today I even had my new wireless card working on a Win95 laptop and it could see the whole network, and I wirelessly printed from my living room. COOL. Unfortunately, I screwed it up. The wireless card seems to conflict with the old pcmcia (wired) card and so I

Non-metric multidimensional scaling

Trying to run isoMDS as follows: Gquad.mat <- Gquads[4:10] # extracts only the metric data variables Gquad.dist <- dist(Gquad.mat) Gquad.mds <- isoMDS(Gquad.dist) plot(Gquad.mds$points, type = "n") text(Gquad.mds$points, labels = as.character(Gquads$Quadname), cex = .5) The data.frame
